I agree, that first trade is horrible, for Arizona. No one is saying Schmaltz is a better player than Marner, but when taking the cap into account, he is good value. When you add on 3 high draft picks and 2 other players plus taking on a cap dump this trade is ridiculously weighted in Toronto's favour.

Marner isn’t waiving, but you’re free to post whatever you want - even pointless fantasy that wastes everyone’s time. Avs and Vegas just won cups without stud 1A goalies; no chance Leafs make that deal.</div></div>
Avs and Vegas did not have stud goalies, but they did have a great group of defensemen. You need one or the other, or some combination of both, to be successful in the play offs. Until Toronto balances their line up better, it will just be more of the same for them. This is one of the main reasons so many posters suggest trades like this, even though in a some cases the values aren't close.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan98</b></div><div>Before his injuries, he was on pace to hit 20 goals again... (he still had a lingering injury but got rushed back bc Leaf forwards were dropping like flies)...
And he was also on pace to hit 20 in 3 other seasons (and another one if he didn't go to Calgary in 21-22)...
Although, Jarnkrok won't make the difference between playoffs vs non playoffs, so I can't go bankrupt as you suggest or like when Habs fans realized Josh Anderson is a cap dump</div></div>
You do realize how ridiculous your argument sounds when you say he was on pace to score 20 goals in five 5 different seasons, but didn't accomplish it in any of them, and use that as your logic to state that he will get 20 goals a season going forward now that he is approaching his mid 30's. I am guessing you do, and that is why you tried to deflect the point by bringing up a totally unrelated topic (Josh Anderson who is 100% a cap dump with his current play).

Completely Change the defense

I'd much rather go after Pesce though</div></div>
Not sure what your definition of "bank" is but you do realize that Jarnkrok has hit 20 goals once (1 time) in his career. Even factoring in injuries this year, he is not on pace to get 20 goals this year. He rarely plays the top 2 lines, and Toronto is not a good penalty killing team, so not sure just how valuable he is in that role. He turns 33 before next season starts. Not arguing whether the trade is fair or not, but not sure Jarnkrok is valued as highly as you think he is. If you are "banking" on another 20 goal season from him, you just might find yourself "bankrupt".

Maybe this was not your intention, but this seems like you are basically saying Crosby and Tavares are equal in value when it is not even close. Crosby is the better player at both ends of the ice, is a proven play off producer, and his cap hit is much less.

In all fairness, he cheers for a team that wastes 1rst round picks on a yearly basis. Hard for a Toronto fan to really get a feel for what a first rounder is worth when they are needed to dump bad contracts, or pick up trade deadline picks that can't stay healthy.

Brodie has negative value to Montreal, Monahan is worth a first, and Matheson is worth a lot more than that. If anything, Toronto seriously lacking in this trade proposal.

I assumed the OP just made a mistake and meant to trade a different player. There is no way ANYONE who knows ANYTHING about hockey would think Kampt is getting anything back of value by himself in a trade. He would likely pass waivers without a claim from any team.

Most teams who think they are stanley cup contenders are willing to wait a few games to see how their back end shakes out. Toronto already knows it needs a serious upgrade. Closer to trade deadline, if Calgary is out of the running, you can bet there will be multiple suitors for Tanev.

Glimpse into the Future 5
I would expect that offer will easily get outbid by someone. A right handed D who can play top pair minutes for just over 2 million is getting a lot more than a low first and a player that can be interchanged with someone half his salary.

Optimal Lines IMO
As long as Toronto can carry 21 players, they should be carrying an extra D. That current crew of 6 on the back end does not install much confidence, and they will all be in their 30's when the play off starts, other than the one guy that can't be trusted to play any meaningful minutes by the coach.

TDL moves and Playoff Roster
The 3rd round pick is 3 drafts from now. Montreal's 5th plus retention is worth at least as much as the 2026 3rd and a 7th. So after that, you essentially got Monahan for Voit. So obviously not fair from the Montreal aspect.

Is There a Market For Jarnkrok
Not at this time and not for a mid round pick. Teams will want to see if last year was a one hit wonder. He has a place in the NHL, but teams are not going to give up anything of value for him. At least not this close to the start of the season.

Quite possible someone gets injured in camp and this all sorts itself out. If they do start with a 20 man roster, it will need to be an 11-7 set up so they are not running short on the back end.

To start the season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bc44</b></div><div>Its not about the trade team. I literally didnt look at the team i clicked on. Leafs have a cap problem and Jarnkrok is a top 3 trade candidate as he makes 2.1mil. Hes a 10-15 goal scorer and a 30-35 pt guy, there are 7 guys left on the UFA list that have more or similar production to Jarnkrok and he had time with Matthews last season. Again this trade/post has nothing to do with the sharks and more to do with a possible Jarnkrok trade and leaf lines to start the season</div></div>
Your point here supports why other teams are not going to trade for him. Why would a team give up assets when they can pick up a similar player on the UFA list, without giving up any assets and having some control over the term and cap hit. The exact reasons you give why Toronto should trade him would be the exact same reasons other teams would not want to trade for him.

Pretty sure you cannot accrue cap space while having players on LTIR. Under your proposal here, I think the best you could do at any point in the season is pick up a minimum salary player (assuming no cap going out and nothing else changes with this roster).
