<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gaz</b></div><div>Maybe something in the ballpark of KK, CAR's '24 3rd, and a couple of 4th-6th round picks (Canes have plenty to choose from in the next 3 years) for the signing rights to Chmelevski? CAR sold off their '25 and '26 3rds previously otherwise you could maybe send two 3rds.</div></div>
I could see something like that, I appreciate the discussion!

KK Is a Goner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gaz</b></div><div>What cost would you put on taking KK? The one counter argument I'd give you is that the Sharks can give KK the opportunity that no other team really can while they're in their rebuild, which is more TOI and better PP opportunities that he doesn't see in CAR. Part of the reason he looks worse statistically than he probably is in actuality is the opportunities given/not given with the Canes that he could get on a rebuilding team like San Jose. A current comparison that comes to mind is Granlund's success with SJS with increased opportunity that he never really had with PIT and to some extent with NSH too.</div></div>
That’s true, but Granlund had succcess before PIT, which I believe was more of a bad fit system wise than it was an indictment on the player. KK is also a similar profile to players Grier likes to pick up, but he definitely went overboard this season which has led to us being beyond bad, and KK’s contract is very scary, and could prevent players like Bystedt and Edstrom from their places when the time comes. Given the nice buyout structure I would say no more than a 2nd probably to dump him, but it could be less depending on other pieces of the deal vs whether or not the canes are OK with the buyout. I’ve seen other people say 3-5th round picks but that seems too cheap for my taste.

If MTL had most of their "future" core players locked up to long term contracts (Guhle, Slafkovsky, Roy, even Hutson and Reinbacher in a few years), I could see them going for offer sheets. The risk of retaliation is too great now.
Counter argument: Habs were really tight against the cap when they lost KK. Habs are going to have more than enough cap space moving forward to match any offer sheet coming to their own players. So embrace the chaos, and let the cold war continue!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gaz</b></div><div>I agree and don't think they'll try another offersheet after how the Aho/KK series went (regardless of how KK's been playing, they initiated the conflict and ended up losing both players), however if they did they probably would have to offer Necas $8-10m on a 1 year deal with an extension worked out beyond that similar to how the KK offersheet went where you drastically overpay for 1 year with a long term extension figured out ahead of time. And for MTL, they have so many RFAs in the next 2-3 years that it'd be tough to proactively sign every player before expiry, there's a lot of choices for a retaliatory OS that CAR could choose from.</div></div>
I just don't think Hughes operates that way, but you are right Habs have a ton of good RFA's coming due for new contracts.

Still so much worse for Carolina than just buying out Kotkaniemi and doing something useful with the space. He's 23, it's a cheap ass buyout, just long.

We will all find out together. I can make the argument that Nikishin’s timeline fits exactly what the Canes need. If all goes to plan, he comes over when Orlov’s deal is done and he has a roster spot. I think all other prospects and picks are on the table.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BDHockey</b></div><div>Gotcha. Fwiw I don't think the trade is possible. If Canes thought another talented top 6 forward was enough to put them ahead of the pack enough to be cup favorites I would consider it. Prospects and Vets
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gaz</b></div><div>What do CBJ fans think about Vincent's deployment of their younger players (ie. Johnson being scratched to open the year, Jiricek being scratched quite a bit lately, and Fantilli playing on the 4th line) & do you think Jarmo keeps his job past this season?</div></div>
Kent Johnson was ass. They handled it well. His season turned around with his time in Cleveland and even he will admit that.
Jiricek has a ton of signs of both front office and coaching staff manipulation. Jarmo ****ed the right side of our D and it leaves it up for the coach to balance playing time with a roster of 5 RHD and only one that can go to the AHL. Jarmo can’t offload any of them in trades bc they’re worthless and he won’t just waive Andrew Peeke for some reason. So to put it all on Pascal is ridiculous.
Fantilli has had a ton of really **** games. He had literally one period on a fourth line. It’s a non story. He’s back on the wing now because his instincts right now are not good. He’s been puck watching and unable to drive offense no matter who his line mates are. Putting him on the wing with some veterans on the line was an effort to help the game be simpler for him. He’s insanely talented and it’s so obvious from the game but it hasn’t made the team better. He’s buried in Corsi, xG, and anything else you want to measure for a month straight and that’s with a bunch of different line combos. I’ve got clips on my twitter of him skating just absolutely brain dead college kid routes that turn rush opportunities into 0 shot attempts. He’s so good but he’s in his adjustment period. Last year he just skated through and past everyone on his way to a Hobey. He’s finding out the NHL is harder.
In terms of the other young players: Cole Sillinger is having a career Renaissance, Yegor Chinakhov is looking like he’s going to be an elite goal scorer someday, Kirill Marchenko has turned into a complete 200 foot player, Dmitri Voronkov has quickly become a legit NHL center and might be a 30-30-60 guy, and Jiricek was showing a ton of growth this year.
Pascal Vincent might not run a cohesive or good NHL team but the growth in individual players is undeniable. I’d like another year of him before bringing in a better strategist and game manager at HC.
Jarmo hopefully done this summer.

prep
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gaz</b></div><div>Even with the 1.5 million retention per season by EDM, CAR is still eating 14 million over the next 4 years so Edmonton is probably missing an additional first from that package going to Carolina. For reference Marleau cost the Leafs a 1st for one year at ~6 million (which ended up being Jarvis), not to mention I don't see many teams wanting to "help" EDM dump cap considering the streak they're on currently even in the Eastern conference.</div></div>
The calculus:
1. The goalie market sucks again next year so maybe we get lucky on a Campbell and at least he would be a 2C next year. If not 2.375 million in the AHL isn’t the worst thing.
2. Canes generally dislike LTIR. They can’t manipulate the cap like they like too
3. Broberg was rushed and will come into his own soon.
4. Jarvis thing is a little different because Marleau couldn’t be bought out with cap savings. Campbell can be for either party. A 1 year, 6 million cap hit penalty is far worse than a 11 million one spread out over 6 years.

If Necas wants to play center and wants to go somewhere that will play him there, maybe an offseason move. But there aren’t any ands with that

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gaz</b></div><div>Fantilli is the 1C of the future for sure, but I don't think the front office envisions Johnson playing C in the NHL. Voronkov has been a nice addition and has continued to get better over the course of the year so maybe he could be the future 2C, In the description I also mentioned building a trade package around Necas instead of KK so maybe that'd be a better fit if Voronkov does solidify himself over the remainder of the season as the 2C. I don't see any team eating Elvis' contract so you may be stuck with him in net and his cap hit unless they buy him out.</div></div>
Johnson's shown he's more than capable to do both wing and center this year and with the way the refs have been throwing guys off the faceoff dot, you essentially need 2 capable centers on each line. He'll probably draw in on the wing, but I think he's going to take his fair share of faceoffs every night. Fantilli needs to be given the #1 spot for the rest of the year. He's shown he's able to do it and has gelled pretty well with Gaudreau, Jenner, and Laine. Sillinger and Voronkov both have looked really good as the #2 center.
As for trading Necas, I like the player, but I don't like the situation. The Jackets need to move 4 or 5 forwards before they think about adding another winger.
I'm one of the few people who believes Elvis is more a victim of a terrible defensive gameplan (see every third period played this year) and a revolving door of defensemen going on IR than him just being a bad goalie. I will say the future looks pretty good with Jet Greaves killing it in the AHL and Sergei Ivanov putting up impressive numbers on a bad team in the KHL as a 19 year old so maybe the Jackets bite the bullet and hold onto Elvis until either guy comes in and challenges him for the #1 spot.

Skjei-Burns isn’t the combo you want. If you really wanted to get TDA back in the lineup (which I don’t agree with if it takes Chatfield out) is Slavin-TDA, Skjei-Orlov, Pesce-Burns*(typo prior had TDA twice*). Pesce, Orlov, and Chatfield can all play offside defense well.
Ultimately I think TDA is moved because Chatfield is a better fit.

Stop the Bleeding
Although I am all for trading pending UFAs this season, I think trading Reimer right now would send the wrong message to the team. We don't need the cap space and if we get injuries we can easily bring up a roster player from Grand Rapids.
Although I think this is more than Reimer is actually worth, I think it would take a bit more of an overpayment to make us trade Reimer. At least that way the team could look at it as "a deal they could not refuse" rather than selling guys.
I feel they're is a ton of positivity surrounding this team right now with your they are playing. Don't think it's worth taking away from that.

that was originally vetoed because the Canes were reacquiring a player within 1 year of trading him and getting him back with salary retention. That violates the CBA (although a poor interpretation of that rule in this case). Buying a player out and reacquiring them within a year isnt a violation.
