<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MaybeorMaybeNot</b></div><div>Let's break this down. Firstly, I did read your notes. It's totally nonsensical. For starters, UFA rights and RFA rights are different. St Louis has zero control or leverage over Husso doing anything. Why would the Leafs not just wait for Husso to be UFA instead of giving up a top4 dman? More interesting from your thinking, why would Husso, who is an UFA, not go to a market where 10 teams will be looking at him (well reported that a ton of teams would be interested)? Does he want to do St Louis a favour and make the team he's going to worse? Can he not wait 1week? This is the reason why sign and trades don't exist in the NHL. Also it's not like anyone is even going to give him 8 year term.

Your point on Sandin is not true. Despite what has become incredibly over-blown (makes sense- leaf things sell the most), Sandin's issue is not contract-related directly. It's fit. He sees the left-side full and wonders about his place. But the Leafs still like him, he's the GMs 1st pick, and they value him highly. You have Perunovich in a deal for an elite player here. Watch both players and see how close Sandin and Perunovich are.</div></div>

If Husso wants to go to Toronto, it would make sense to get the deal done sooner rather than later. That's not helping out the Blues, that's helping his new team have a better understanding of the cap heading into free agency. Also, I don't think Husso's going to get anything better than a 4x4.5 deal. Too small of a sample size to pay big, and he'll trade dollars for job security.

Fit and cap hit go hand in hand. You're not going to extend an RFA and give him $3mil+ to play on his off hand, and you're certainly not paying that for a 7th defenseman. It's going to be easier to trade Sandin than Muzzin, and you can get a better goalie than say, Korpisalo, by doing so. Your points about Dubas drafting him and wanting to keep him though are valid. GMs love their guys and don't want the ego hit of moving on from someone they drafted, especially in the first round.
