(STL/NYR) - Tarasenko, Mikkola for Blais, Skinner, 1st, 4th
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan98</b></div><div>Just because Blais hasn't scored a goal, doesn't mean he isn't valuable. Also, Noesen was still an asset in that foligno trade and would have costed a 4rth, whether he played for the Leafs or not. Where exactly is Mikkola going to play in the rangers system anyways?</div></div>
Blais just spent a couple weeks in Hartford on a conditioning stint after being a healthy scratch a bunch, he just has not worked in NYR at all (I'm willing to blame the major injury for some of that). Mikkola is playing 3LD tonight and has a decent shot at staying there, he only has to beat out Harpur at this point.

(STL/NYR) - Tarasenko, Mikkola for Blais, Skinner, 1st, 4th
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensonfire</b></div><div>The Rangers got:
A 2nd that had some chance of turning into a 1st
A 3rd that had very little chance of turning into a 1st.
for Mats Zuccarello
The Blues got:
Sammy Blais
A prospect
A guaranteed 1st round pick in a deep draft
A 4th round pick with a very good chance of turning into a 3rd round pick
for Vladimir Tarasenko and Niko Mikkola
Blais and Mikkola cancel each other out.
So, it's a prospect, a guaranteed 1st and likely a 3rd for Tarasenko.
The more I look at these two trades, the more I feel this isn't fair for the Rangers.
The St. Louis Blues win the trade.</div></div>
I think some of the difference in the returns is that the blues are retaining 50% of a 7.5m cap and NYR only retained about 1m on Zucc, and we're currently in a situation where nearly every team is in a cap squeeze.

(STL/NYR) - Tarasenko, Mikkola for Blais, Skinner, 1st, 4th
RW and LD are the spots Rangers needed upgrades in, and I think they paid a pretty fair price to (most likely) rent what they needed. And they still get to keep one of their 2 1sts this summer and (once Hajek is off the roster) have enough cap left for a small bottom 6 add if they want at the deadline.
Fair deal.

definitely seen discussion in ranger fan circles about getting motte again for the playoffs, price seems fairly reasonable, potentially arguable down to a 4th

New York Rangers signed Jimmy Vesey (2 Years / $800,000 AAV)
Good cheap deal for a guy who has been a decent versatile player for the rangers (even if he's struggled to make any impact anywhere else). Should help a bit with the crunch the rangers might be facing this summer depending on what happens with the cap.

Colorado Avalanche signed Nathan MacKinnon (8 Years / $12,600,000 AAV)
This whole discussion makes me wonder how different the league would be (especially after the last few years of cap crunch) if players signed contracts based on cap% instead of actual dollar amounts. Would players sign for slightly lower amounts now knowing that if the cap goes up so does their salary? Would the league have dared drop the cap the full amount in the covid-shortened/bubble season or would there still be an escrow mess?
It would certainly make comparing player contracts signed in different eras easier, if nothing else... And GMs would have a lot fewer excuses for getting themselves into cap hell if the cap doesn't change the way they expected.

(NYR/COL) - Georgiev for 2x 3rd, 1x 5th
Georgiev has in the past been a very solid 'tandem' goalie, he just really struggles in the traditional 'plays 1 in every 5 games' type of backup role which is what he had this past couple seasons (and would have going forward if he'd stayed in NY). If the Avs are planning to put him in that kind of spot he could be great for them and well worth the picks paid. (I still voted NYR win because he hasn't been able to show his potential for a while now so they're taking the chance that he can pick it back up)

No team has ever won the cup with 10 million dollar players
I mean, when Crosby signed his deal his cap hit was 14.5% of the cap which just under a $12m AAV in today's cap, and it's only even that low because of serious backdiving for the next 3 seasons... he was making $10.9m in actual salary when they won the back to back cups (at which point his cap hit still took up 12%+ of the cap). So honestly the stars of 'today' are... pretty much following his example, as much as the current contract rules allow.

2021-2022 NHL Playoffs Discussion Thread #4 - And Then There Were Eight
My bracket was doing great after round 1, had 8/8 correct, but now down to 2/4 as I had Flames and Canes winning (as a NYR fan I'm happy to be wrong on that one!), but my final still has a chance as I have Avs over Bolts. (But will again be happy to be wrong on one side of that final...)

decent bottom 6 potential, well above what would be expected form a 6th round pick, but wasn't really given much of a shot in NY

Pretty much what I expected from this deal. And I figure even if the last couple seasons end up an overpay when he hits mid-30s, he's been super underpaid the last few seasons so it's a wash for me. (Also the cap should be going up some by then hopefully!)

I always find it interesting that the Canadian-born Perlini brother plays for GB internationally, and the British-born brother has played for Canada... (I vaguely recall hearing that Brendan had contacted Kirk when he got drafted as he was with Arizona at the time and his brother obviously knew him already)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Crazy66</b></div><div>Werent they just saying this guy got rights to speak to other teams? Is this a legit signing or a sign and trade?</div></div>
According to an recent interview my sister found, they had decided to let him speak to teams after the worlds performance, then Kirk and the GM had a discussion and whatever he said there impressed enough for them to decide to sign him after all, with the plan to see how he fits in to the system and develops in the AHL.
However it goes from here, this is great news for the hockey community here in the UK!

we haven't had a lot of details about that one, but one story I did see is that apparently he collected up the puck from Miller's first goal and then just... didn't give it to him. The story has been 'officially' refuted but I suspect there's a grain of truth in there (like maybe he did eventually hand it over but not immediately and was a POS about it in the meantime, or something)

NOTHING has been set in stone. And how they do playoffs might depend a lot on what the border travel situation looks like by then, so even when they actually start announcing stuff it might be they have more than 1 playoff option in play.

Rangers were already top 5 in scoring last season, and were one of only 2 teams that didn't get shut out in a single game (that other team was Tampa). Scoring isn't their big problem...

This kind of thing makes me worried about how much the Rangers are going to have to pay Zibanejad when his contract is up in 2 years. He currently makes around half of the amount this formula would give him! (I will not begrudge paying the man because he's been my favourite since before he took off and he's such a steal now but they're gonna have to be careful with their cap space!)
