Thank God for the Oilers otherwise I would be dying to see the offseason at this point. The Eastern playoffs are bad thus far. They should call this... simply, the Western Playoffs, and not the Playoffs.</div></div>
I'm interested to see if Georgiev can keep the Jets under five goals tonight!

Fitting Landy Without Blowup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TJTwolf</b></div><div>I wouldn't call them fine by any means but the sitution is nowhere near as bad as some of the vultures on here like to make out. Probably a little light on Rants there and also Ned but I think the cap probably increases by at least 4 mil for this particular season if not more given the predicted rise coming. The Avs are very much going to have to rely on the rental situation, cheap contracts in the bottom order and/or developing young players on ELCs (something historically they haven't been great at). The issue with the rental scenario being used constantly is the draining of the pool of youngsters vis a vis having no draft picks, and their scouting will also have to improve to find gems in the lower rounds.</div></div>
They still have Gulyayev & Ritchie as top prospects. The Avs are in a great position for a few more years minimum. This is what a dynasty looks like. It will have been six years of contending after this season; I count 18-19 as Year1. Avs 1.0 had nine contending years.

Unbiased Hard Truths
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Andy_Dick</b></div><div>You are also getting cheap deals from Montreal so that wouldn't change the narrative here, Landeskog wont be put on LTIR every year so that Mitts problem and contract would just be pushed forth another year for more decisions but I digress.</div></div>
As a contender, that's the name of the game. You play one season at a time & worry about the next season later.

Unbiased Hard Truths
They'll keep Mitts & bump up NK51, meaning they only need to trade one of: Colton, Manson, or Girard to fit Landy. That's it. CMac has commented the roster screams out for cheap deals. Drouin is gone. They have cheap, internal options to fill out the regular season roster & can rent for the playoffs if needed.
The biggest offseason goal is go dump Georgiev & get a suitable tandem partner for Annunen for the year. Blackwood or Nedjelkovic.
I expect they are cautious with Captain & start him on LTIR. They can wait for things to shake out before making a trade to activate him. One thing the Avs have shown: they will be patient & not make panic moves nor commitments, & keep flexibility until there's a deadline.

Game 2 lineup
I'd swap G & Manson. Not a fan of Colton 2C; Mitts played fine. Manson can look at soms video to clean up those mistakes. The skaters put up 6 goals & the Avs were 30-0 in the playoffs when scoring six before last night. I'd bring three baseball cap options to Alexandar & a nice, fresh towel & tell him to sit down & never get up until the game is over.

Behrens
Looks like Behrens is getting the Malinski treatment: AHL playoffs on an ATO, then 24-25 his pro deal begins, he starts in the AHL & gets some NHL callups.
I think CMac prefers to start Malinski over committing big money to Walker, especially to be flexible for a possible Landy return. They can always rent to plug holes until more clarity is achieved. Or maybe Behrens becomes a starter by the playoffs. He has quite the resumé as a recent, two time Natl Champion!

Tristan Jarry
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LimeyBarsteward</b></div><div>This is getting silly. Georgie won the most games in the season for a reason. It’s true the team hasn’t been playing as dominantly as it was earlier in the season but we are still in the playoffs. We aren’t going to make knee jerk reactions based on 5-10 below average games. The team needs to get a lobotomy to remove the brain farts. Especially if they can’t get it together for the playoffs but they aren’t going to scrap the plan.
There is no way Jarry is worth a starting goalie and a first round pick plus a prospect. I think Georgie is likely the better goalie anyway. </div></div>
Georgiev has some core issues with his game. Terrible 1v1 and mentally weak & its been happening all year. I'm not sure how Jussi Parkkila hasn't addressed these things, but maybe he's just not that good of a coach. Either way, if we're still here after a whole season, I don't see how this improves & Avs might be better to move on & try with a different goalie.

D & G are solid. Top line is nice. Depth F is a concern, but this should be a bubble playoff team.

Colorado incoming cap crunch
Landy had been playing hurt for two seasons BEFORE missing two more seasons. He looked very weak skating recently. If he does come back, I can't see how he'd be effective over a full 82 game season. I think he just retires, but the Avs could always stash him on LTIR all season in hopes he builds up enough strength for one last playoff run. I could also see him start on LTIR & then activate halfway thru & the Avs would trade one of: Manson, Colton, or Girard.
CMac will likely round out this roster with three league minimim deals in: Malinski, Behrens, & Kovalenko, instead of Walker, Stetcher & Drouin. Therefore I don't see them having to move out more than one guy to fit Captain.
As for an Ullmark trade, value comp is a 1st & possibly one minor asset (Foudy, etc). They got Kuemper for a 1st straight up. They probably wouldn't need retention, given the cheap contracts mentioned above. Boston could certainly take Georgiev & Manson, or they could be sent elsewhere. Ritchie is their #1 prospect & has far exceeded expectations, so he wouldn't be included for a pure rental. Swap Ritchie with a 1st, remove retention, & that's a good fit for both teams IMO.

Three Goalie Options
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FunMustBeAlways</b></div><div>What happened to Georgiev? I've always liked him and he was an analytical darling when the Avs traded for him but it seems like he's lost his mojo this season.</div></div>
That's exactly right. He has the physical skills to be a #1, but his overall game isn't where it needs to be, plus I think he's blamed his teammates too much for his struggles. I played goal & see he's struggling in two specific areas. 1) 1v1 he doesn't challenge the shooter, but instead freezes & gets picked apart rather easily. 2) weak mindset. Needs a coach to teach him simple, centric techniques to remain calm & focused. He can't make the Big Save & when things start going bad, he can't stop the bleeding. He's gotten too emotional & just needs a fresh start.

We’ve made that mistake far too many times</div></div>
He'll be a 26 yr old 'kid' lol. Being from college (Cornell's Captain btw) this was his first pro training camp & full season. He had ups & downs, but probably could have stepped into a full time 3rd pair role on a lesser team quite easily. He crushed last year's Eagles stint. Avs just don't have tolerance for mistakes (see Newhook). Annunen is the only rookie on the roster & he was their 4th goalie. It took a Francouz injury & Prosvetov bomb to get him games. Malinski was an earlier option & would have been playing still if not for Waivers Exemption.
They traded for his identical, veteran replacement in Walker (rental) so he can be a Black Ace for the big boys this time & seem primed to let him take over a starting role in 24-25.
