I think you meant last week. Manson hasn't been good for 2 years and Liljegren really looks like exactly what TO needs. He's fast, can handle the puck and is generally always in the right position. I have liked how he's played.

@drewjenks bro you were killin me in your responses. Funny guy.
This is an ok deal right now. He stays on his current path, it works out overtime. Core for a few seasons of letang, dumo, johnson, and mp is quite serviceable. Add in marino n we only need to feel out a single spot we have locked in with dudes like ruhwedel, trotman, or Shultz (lol) but mp, in this deal, taking a cheap year this season to insure this type of contract, is fair. Maybe an extra year but gmjr loves term so whatever ****in dudes 23 n way better than d sprong

Quoting: Danes1294

Under no circumstances will Kyle Dubas be retaining the salary of any player especially not on Ceci.

I disagree. I don't see him retaining salary on a longer term contract, but if he does decide to move Ceci, a bit of retention might help. It would be gone by the end of the year, so while it wouldn't be ideal, as long as he got everybody he wanted, some retention there would not hurt.
That being said, the Islanders trade is insane considering they don't have a need for Ceci and I don't think the Flyers would do that deal.

Shaking It Up

Quoting: drewjenks

I was under the impression that Drouin was being shopped / in trade rumors at some point recently?
And that people have started souring on him because he's a softy / doesn't try very hard on defense?
I guess that's not true?
I've been operating under the assumption that Domi is more valuable to Montreal than Drouin is.

It's just speculation. MB is sealed tight when it comes to trading players. Most of the time the media just says **** for attention. There haven't been any solid rumors where he's being shopped.
His play this year is completely different than years past, he's playing both sides of the puck and has really changed his game around.
Domi is worth more than Drouin henced why Nylander is retained with Domi and not Drouin. Domi is almost guaranteed to make more than Drouin on his next contract which should even the value out a little bit more.

Quoting: drewjenks

Point taken ... but since you singled out that trade ... I assume you're OK with the rest?
Like the Arizona trade:
To Toronto = Barrett Hayton (2018 5th overall) + Victor Soderstrom (2019 11th overall)
To Arizona = Fred Gauthier (a fourth line center) + Mac Hollowell (a 4th round pick)
And the Carolina trade:
To Toronto = Brett Pesce ($1,000,000 retained) + 1st round pick
To Carolina = Alex Kerfoot (a third line center) + 6th round pick
And the Winnipeg trade:
To Toronto = Josh Morrissey (#1D signed for 8 years) + Kyle Connor (#1 LW with $3,100,000 retained)
To Winnipeg = Jake Muzzin (a pending UFA defender) + Kaspari Kapanen (a poor mans Kyle Connor)
And the Vancouver trade:
To Toronto = 2nd round pick + 4th round pick
To Van City = Ken Agostino + Jason Spezza (two veteran press boxers)
Are you catching my drift good sir?

You aren't getting a first + second for Bracco and Kossila from any team in the NHL. I doubt you even get a 2nd round pick for that package.

A Simple Solution for the Leafs

Quoting: drewjenks

YOU THA MAN!
But I will add ... that the Canucks are currently paying:
$3,000,000 x 3 years = Luongo (recapture penalty)
$1,000,000 x 2 years = Spooner (buyout penalty)
$6,000,000 x 3 years = Eriksson (worth $1,000,000)
$3,000,000 x 3 years = Beagle (worth $1,000,000)
$3,000,000 x 3 years = Roussel (worth $1,000,000)
$3,400,000 x 2 years = Baertschi (worth $1,000,000)
$6,000,000 x 5 years = Myers (worth $3,000,000)
$4,400,000 x 2 years = Sutter (worth $2,000,000)
For a multi-year loss of about $21,000,000 in cap space.

Yea it's bad over here too. The only one on that list I would contest is Myers as performed well as a top pairing defenseman so far. He and Edler were statistically a top 10 pairing in the league last time I checked. Whether he can maintain that or not remains to be seen. Roussel has also been very good in the games he's played. Eriksson and Sutter are the worst on that list. Ferland also looked bad before his injury.
Whole lot of garbage, but probably easier to sort out. We could waive pretty much anyone on that list and it wouldn't make a noticeable difference.

(CHI/DET) - Perlini for Regula

Quoting: drewjenks

So Regula is a PPG player in the OHL ....
Rookie Year (16 years old) = 53 GP / 5 PTS = 0.09 PPG
Draft Year (17 years old) = 71 GP / 25 PTS = 0.35 PPG
Draft + 1 (18 years old) = 77 GP / 45 PTS = 0.58 PPG
Draft + 2 (19 years old) = 10 GP / 10 PTS = 1.00 PPG
Does 10 points as an over-aged and over-sized defensemen make you a point per game player overnight?
He's playing on the London Knights with Ryan Merkley, Liam Foudy and Connor McMichael ... against kids.
Those guys are creating the offense not Regula.

I think the previous post was missing the point a bit. I agree with you about the PPG stats. They really aren't that impressive. With that said...would it be the worst thing that he's not the one getting the points??? That's not why the Hawks traded for him. Even more to your point...He's played opposite of Bouchard, then Boqvist, now Merkley. How lucky can 1 guy get?!?! At this stage I'm not sure whether this is a positive or negative. He's still been getting the top pair roles 3 years running. He's still been getting a ton of impact minutes. The Hawks need another big man on the back end in their system. worth the risk, no?
***EDIT*** The knights did lose more talent than they gained though. Bouchard, Boqvist, Formenton all lost. Merkley added.

I was more talking about trading a player and trading to get them back doesn’t always work... look at Chicago now, they’ve moved Saad, Shaw and others then went and brought them back to have them not be as good at they were the season before.

New York Rangers signed Anthony Deangelo (1 Year / $925,000 AAV)

Quoting: drewjenks

Yeah ... I guess it would be pretty simple if all of the following ends up true:
Kakko is a good 1st line winger next year
Chytil is a good 2nd line center next year
Andersson is a good 3rd line center next year
Kravstov is a good 3rd line winger next year
Lemieux is a good 3rd line winger next year
Otherwise ... you have a bad team pushed right up against the cap (with like 6 players expecting big raises in 2021-22).
So maybe it's a good idea to wait and see what's up.

I understand the pressure to put a highly competitive team on the ice in NYC, but you have to wonder a little bit if accelerating the rebuild was a smart long term strategy. Trouba better be an absolute stud at $8M AAV and they still lack any kind of Center depth to be a playoff team. I think they're gonna struggle a little more this season than their fans are anticipating. And like you said, they're gonna be right up against the cap next season, even while subtracting a handful of middle six players.

I think this is a reverse "prove it deal". The player wants to see that the club will put a quality team on the ice more than a club wanting to see what the player can do.
