Yea the end result was Det got a buyout contract, Yamamotto (worth $1 million in cash), an over paid, bound for UFA Ahler, Simek (almost $2 million in real cash), handed SJS a Kostin ($2 million) under contract for another season (who is already playing better) and a 7th Rd pick for FC.
Ya, the 100th comment post !!!

Wow, has this thread really ended bad.
From everyone voting Holland L, it's obviously now who really lost, poor Stevie Y and his followers. You lost this trade.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NucksnOilers</b></div><div>Kulak is much better at his role than Ceci and costs 750k less, move on from him instead
Broberg isn't an NHL level player
We need a better back-up than Pickard if we wanna compete in the playoffs
Keep Brown, he'll resign for cheap anyways and he's effective on the PK. He's a good 4th liner to have
Kane isn't gonna sign here, he'll probably retire as a red wing
Campbell's buyout is actually very good, no reason to dump him
I'd like to see an upgrade over Ceci in the top-4 honestly, someone like Carrier to play with Nurse. Also instead of Kane I love the idea of Jake Debrusk, him and Boston seem to be done and he would probably love to play in Edmonton.</div></div>
I thought of DeBrusk but wanted to find a RH RW'er, but yea, P. Kane doesn't want to go to Canadian team, just surprised at looking at his stats, probably the best RW'er, other than Tarasenko (Reinhart will not reach UFA).
Kept Ceci over Kulak because of the whole RHD aspect.
I'd like to see a return of Talbot in goal, but he might be too expensive.

True, but knowing Dubas wants to make the "appearance" of being smart, he'll show off and move up into the 1st Rd and call it a win.

bye bye Ovie
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SupremeBone</b></div><div>That's gonna be a no from EDM :) Compelling as the idea of Ovi breaking the record with EDM is, he's simply not the player he was anymore and is better positioned to break the record in WAS where they'll build literally everything around him to support his pursuit of that record.</div></div>
I think the Caps are rebuilding and Ovie will get left out.
Ovie still has a great shot, watched last night's game against the Oilers, the problem is his team mates are not a threatening scorers and the passes to him and cycle play is too slow that the goalie has time to set up for his one timer.

I 100% agree Tbay should let Stamkos leave. Tbay has got Stamkos prime years, yet another team overpay him for his past his prime years. I never understood teams who show loyalty to past their prime franchise players.

Toronto Maple Leafs signed Bobby McMann (2 Years / $1,350,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drewjenkins</b></div><div><strong>It honestly feels like great risk management to me:</strong>
- He has 11 points (8 goals) in his last 14 games (all at even strength).
- These 14 games are the first time his ATOI has been above 10 mins.
- He's a 6'2 / 220 aggressive forechecker with a solid defensive game.
- He's also a pending UFA despite rookie status (GM had no leverage).
<strong>Now he's locked up for 3 years (27-29) at $1,350,000.</strong>
Downside = $200,000 wasted (if he's in the minors).
Upside = $2,000,000 saved (if he's a great 3rd liner).
Both outcomes are possible (equally likely I'd think).
<strong>But the upside is 10X more valuable than the risk.</strong>
He's Toronto's Dakota Joshua.
Can Van extend him for less?
Can Van afford to keep him?</div></div>
The contract is for 2 years. At that cap hit he should have gotten 3 or 4 years.
2 years should have been $1.1 AAV, so it's a 200k overpay.

Cheap NHL veteran goalie should be available.
Leafs about 10m for three NHL Dmen, two good ones at RHD at 10mk Maybe Tanev and DeMelo.</div></div>
Yea Domi could be a good target because he may do a team friendly deal to continue the Domi legacy on the Leafs.

Robertson + Dewar + Benoit = 1m x 2 year deals
FA targets = Roy 6m x 6 years and Demelo 4.5m x 5 years, extend McMann 1.1m x 2 years, Samsonov 2.5m x 1 year
Timmins will be traded
Extra's = Raifai and Reaves</div></div>
I think a roster spot should be left open for a rookie forward.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>1 - Heh. On paper, beforehand is not where or when one decides such things.
2 - Not sure how this factors in, what writers write on day one is also not a relevant criteria for judging trades. And not to toot my horn, but I called it a bad deal when it happened. Lots of people ripped me to shreds. None of us decided who won the trade in the present tense. Because won is past tense. If you think that's a great Tre trade given the gift of hindsight, I suppose we just disagree and that's that.</div></div>
You are still missing the fact the trade was forced by Tkachuck, he filed for arbitration which would have awarded him a 1 year contract which would have lead him to UFA.
So removing an unhappy player, who was in a lame duck season, which would have been a big distraction in the media and toxic in the locker room, while getting assets back which were positive was a win.
A better trade than when Gilmour forced the Blues into a trade to go to the Flames, but I'm sure you have wiped that memory from your mind.

On paper it was a short term win.
Articles written at the time were mostly positive. believing Huberdeau was still in his late prime but knowing his regression would happen about half way thru the 8 years, instead the regression hit in year 1 and NOBODY would have predicted it.
It's like Trev signing Nylander to 8 years after his most impressive season, imagine next Willy totals decreases by more than half.

I guess you have forgotten any questionable trades the Blues have done in their history, while chasing the Stanley Cup dream.
Because you know it's a fact, every Cup contender does it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>Ehh okaaaay. I do not think drafting and extended UFAs you traded for are alike as you suggest, but that's really neither here nor there. If the GM makes a trade like this and gets back two UFAs who must either be re-signed or let go, it should very much be included in the trade's judgement of quality. It's quite a reach to try separating those things.</div></div>
Forget the players ages, Flames thought they were in a win now mode, they traded a 100+ point winger with 1 yr remaining for a 100+ point winger and a top 4 dman both with 1 yr remaining and a 1st Rd pick.
That is a win.
