Yea, I know Durzi will never be worth a 1st Rd pick, but Sens can keep the 1st Rd pick and give the Yotes something else.

A new concept on contract signings and cap hit.
Right now the Nhl takes the AAV of contracts, but allows team and players to front or back load contracts. I wonder what a rule would look like if instead contracts are based by yearly payouts. The Nhl would just need a rule were the contract can only have a 10%, either higher or lower, from the previous year.
So today's contract of a 7 year for $49 million is a straight up $7 million AAV cap hit.
But what if he could be broken down as:
Year 1=$10 or $4
2=$9 or $5
3=$8 or $6
4=$7 or $7
5=$6 or $8
6=$5 or $9
7=$4 or $10
Wouldn't Nhl owners/managers like the different cap hits. For rebuilding teams they can frontload the contracts to reach the floor and than when they're ready to compete the cap hit would be lower, or contending teams can backload contracts to stay competitive now and worry about the raises later.
Obviously a loophole would be what to do about trading of those contracts. I guess the clear solutions is that this type of contracts can only to be for NMC and will never be traded.

Marner for Crosby who says no who has to add
Leafs say no.
An aging second line center is easier to find than a still in his prime elite winger.
The Leafs already taken the NYI franchise center to play behind Matthews so taking Pit franchise center would give the Leafs the same result as JT had.

If Dubas was so badly in love with Holl back than, he could have exposed Brodie, a LHD getting $5 million, no way the Kraken would touch that.
So:
Matthews,
Marner,
JT
Nylander,
McCann,
Reilly,
Muzzin,
Holl,
Campbell.
Expose: Kerfoot, Simmonds, Engvall, Brodie, Dermott, Hutchinson.

Sign him for 1 mil AAV.
Dubie definitely loves Holl.</div></div>
Dubas biggest mistake trading to get McCann from Pit just to expose him to the Kraken rather than losing either Holl, Dermott or Kerfoot to expansion.

should domi stay or go
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>difficult at best, with no 7th dman, just 30k in cap and some marginal underpayments.
Even small differences/realities ruin the cap:
Benoit is a RFA with rights, so 900k is too light
Toffoli and Domi are probably both in line for more than whats offered above, especially on long term deals
Liljegren is about right IMO, but doubt he signs for 4 yrs
ANd that goaltending looks like a cheapening out and ignored at best</div></div>
Toffoli isn't really needed, as the Leafs have enough forward depth, I just signed him for the fun fact that he has almost played for every Canadian city in his career.
So that's $5 million to split on a $3 million 4-5th Dmen and $1.5 million for a proven backup goalie.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>There is an old saying in hockey, "If you have three goalies, you don't have one." Leafs have four. But Woll and Samsonov are quality NHL goalies. Thank goodness for cap reasons, Murray was on LTIR this year.</div></div>
I wonder if the Leafs can at least get Murray to play a couple weeks on the Marlies on a conditioning stint, to let the poor guy at least try to continue his career.

Leshunov will resolve the top pair RHD issue on this years draft.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GiggywithGibby</b></div><div>He was fighting a groin injury for 15/20 games he's played this season and the two times he went on IR were not related to each other, so no, we wouldn't consider that to have diminished his trade value whatsoever, since everyone knows what he's capable of, and he has no prior injury history.
And again, we already have equivalent pieces in our system, multiple of them, so how are those pieces "helping us win"? Iorio is bottom 4 upside, we have Helleson and Warren and Luneau, not to mention the possibility of signing Ian Moore. You've said yourself Trying is a shot in the dark, and those picks don't yield top 6 players, the get you middle 6 if you're lucky.
It makes zero sense for Anaheim to take a quantity return in any hypothetical Zegras trade, it's a blue chip piece to base the trade around, or Zegras stays in Anaheim.</div></div>
Ana has serious holes on their roster, now if the Ducks see McTavish and Carlsson as their 1-2 punch down the middle, Zegras is the trade bait. I guess it depends if the Duck like to see McTavish on LW.
Even than, I see Zegras as more of a "me" player than a "we" player.

They are all either: HOFers, over a PPG or close to PPG during the dynasty years</div></div>
My comment was more about poking fun at your claim the Leafs have 2 of the top 5 defensive all rounding players in the Nhl. When they say defense wins Champions (unless you are the "what is defense?" 1980s Dynasty Oilers) than MNM should have had more playoff victories then just 1 in 8 years.
Also half of the players on the Oilers you listed were players who got their stats enhanced by playing for Slather and with Gretzky.

I say look towards the Sens recent contract signs of Sanderson and Buf contract signs of Power.....$8 million range.
hmm... then again those contracts were signed after the elc ended, Dobson gave the NYI a bridge, so maybe $9+ million is realistic.
Though Lou can be tricky to talk too.
