exactly, and even then i think the blues would just pony up and move a third along with bozak before they really consider trading CP

Keeping Pietrangelo After Allen Trade and Tarasenko Injury
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blueman96</b></div><div>I did a "Tarasenko to LTIR" interactive GM team with a stupid long explanation. I don't think anything more complicated needs to happen than Tarasenko just going on LTIR. If I'm correct in my understanding, the Blues could exceed the cap by that number.
There's no question Tank will start next season (whenever that is) on LTIR. The $7.5 million AAV question is when he'll be ready to get back on the ice. In bluntly short terms I advocated for assuming he's LTIR the whole year and if he's not then it's a pleasant surprise and you figure the cap implications then. But you approach the offseason with the belief you will have his full cap hit as cap relief. Considering this is his 3rd surgery on that shoulder in a 18 month timeframe I don't think that stance is as aggressive as some people who disagree with me would claim.</div></div>
i mean theyll actually have to move someone if he does comes off it later during the season, but either way him going on LTIR buys them so much time and gives them way more flexibility

Yeah he’s a solid player, can play up and down the pairings, but he’s not gonna dominate a game. 4th-5th round pick is fair because he’s cheap and reliable.

If Jets win 1st OA
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claesson4Norris</b></div><div>That 3+5 for Laf trade has been proposed 1000 times and I've yet to see a compelling argument for Lafreniere being worth even close to that.</div></div>
Heres my view on it, I think Laffy is guaranteed to be a franchise level player, like Kane and Ovechkin on the wing but plays more of a Peter Forsberg like game. So hes a fantastic player to trade up for and I will not be surprised if Ottawa and LA get calls from teams that need a center more than a winger (like Winnipeg). However, since I consider Laffy of that caliber I also consider Byfield and Stutzle a similar caliber to #2 in Ovi's year, Malkin. As good as Malkin is I would still never choose him over Ovechkin. Then we can go down the list a little more for the 3 players I can see going at #5:
Raymond - highly resembles Marner with his elite playmaking and 2-way game
Drysdale - great 2-way game, does everything, gives me Seth Jones or Drew Doughty vibes
Rossi - great skating, offensive game, and a solid defensive game. I can see a Brayden Point or Matt Barzal in his playstyle.
To conclude, I would not trade Ovi for Malkin but I would also not do Malkin + any of the above players for Ovi.

Wild way to keep the captain
Yes it sucks to buyout Steen, but we are trying to win Stanley Cups. We can give him the option of “retiring” and being hired as a coach, or stick him on LTIR, or, if we get dunn for super cheap (anything under 2.5 mil) we can keep him and have a 22 man roster. The Andersson trade has been debated a lot, I’ve said that I’m a fan just because I like the idea of taking a chance on a talented player instead of a mid round pick. I would be fine with a similar type prospect from another team. First ones that come to mind that I’ve seen are Stanley from WPG and, dare I say it, Tage Thompson from Buffalo. That will probably never happen but we should look at guy the organization has more or less given up on but may thrive somewhere else. Fee free to quote this with suggestions, I’m making another team rn.

Probably because Washington didn't have to deal with the buy-out themselves

a few scenarios
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BluesBandit</b></div><div>I really think that they move Bozak + Allen, sign Petro to an 8 year deal with lower AAV than 9, bridge Dunn, and buyout Steen. Petro and GMDA have both said they are trying to get a deal done.</div></div>
Seems like the best outcome to me, but maybe not the most realistic. Freeing up $10-12m with a flat cap, without giving up any assets... always hard to tell what's going through the mind of 31 NHL GMs though so we'll have to wait and see.

COL is one of the few teams that could fit Petro and also would have interest. I see PHI or CGY as players. Below them, maybe COL/DAL/WPG (although it would be ice cold for him to stay in the central) and then there are some dark horses like ANA (probably not in their plans to spend $65m bucks on a UFA but a nice destination) or VGK (would have to do a lot of cap re-arranging but have made bold moves before).

Definitely an obstacle, but if Bozak wants to play his way into a new contract, Buffalo is one of the few teams that could give him more ice time to shine. When a team asks a player to waive a NTC, it usually means they're flat-out telling the player that there is no spot for them. Not sure if I'd want to stay on a team once that card was played... could be awkward.
