Un-Educated Oilers TDL
Big Vin has been playing quite well since Knoblauch/Coffey came here.. I don't know that the Carrier deal is necessary, although he's definitely an upgrade on Desharnais.
That said.. for those saying Carrier isn't an upgrade on Ceci, I would counter that Tanev + Carrier sure is an upgrade on Ceci+Desharnais, however.

Edmonton TD Moves
Again, before I get roasted here.. lol
I re-iterate, this was really just an exercise by me to see what can be done by moving Kane. I really do like Kane, but moving him fixes 3 holes, potentially: backup G, top 4 RHD, 3 or 4 line center. Grabbing Kostin would replace Kane's physicality, for the most part.. but definitely a huge hit offensively, but I figure McL and Foegele back with Drai will fill that void. Only so much TOI to go around.
This requires at least 3 trades by Holland, which in itself isn't very realistic, as I don't think he is ever that active. But thought I'd see if the cap could work with the right moves.
Washington trade as I have it isn't realistic, but I think the Oilers could make something work in order to acquire those two players - picks, prospects.

Is this a fair McDavid trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Probably....some think that theres not a package big enough for a MacDavid or a Matthews, but 4 1sts, with the 1st one being Bedard is maybe worth considering. But Gretzky got traded for less.
Just not sure a moderately successful club like EDM proposes it, or that a true rebuilding club like CHI. It would certainly take some cahones ON BOTH SIDES, because it really would be a leap.</div></div>
Gretzky was not traded. He was SOLD. Pocklington was desperate for money, in part due to other businesses bleeding him of money.
There is no desperation to trade / sell McDavid. Anyone that thinks he's being traded this year is nuts. At least this suggestion includes the next up and comer, but he hasn't played a day in the league. You don't go from a cup contending team (the Oilers were top-2 favorite to win the cup on a lot of lists, even though it of course didn't happen) to what amounts to a blow up, trading the leagues best player. This really makes no sense at all.

EK65
Obviously Karlsson is a phenomenal player, but I'm going to go against the grain and say I'd rather keep Bouchard. Bouchard will be a good piece for the long term. Karlsson obviously is a phenomenal player, but there's risk that comes with him in the form of injury history, huge contract, age (potential decline), and still defensive game. Bouchard's game improved when Ekholm came to Edmonton, and it took another step forward in the playoffs. This is the guy you want on your blueline.. a player that already works in your system just fine. You don't have to go full NY Rangers and swing for the fences on upgrading players you don't really need to upgrade. Karlsson will bring a big jump in offensive numbers, and likely improve the PP, and McD/Draisaitl's offensive numbers, but we all know that isn't the problem here. Fix the real problem.
Keep Bouchard, and move Ceci for a piece much, much smaller in significance than Karlsson. Nurse needs a more stable pair. Preferably someone that can defend somewhat reliable, but more importantly, someone who can move the puck better than just pushing it up the boards. That isn't the Oilers style, outside of Ceci and Desharnais. That said, Ceci had some sort of core injury, which might have made his game really drop off this year. Last year he was definitely more effective. This year, I saw him a bigger problem on the ice than Nurse. Maybe the break will help him back to 2021-22 level.
Also, I'd have to think Yamamoto's days are numbered due to salary and poor offensive performance. Trade him, if possible, but a buyout is quite reasonable ($433k this, $533k next). The Oilers will need all the cap space they can get in order to re-sign Bouchard (has to be a bridge), Kostin, Bjugstad, D Ryan, R McLeod, as they probably should. Also, pray for a bigger jump in cap ceiling than the projected $1M!

It's kind of crazy to think how pinching pennies with McLeod and others really was this critical. Literally, every dollar mattered.

He will be there as of game 2, I'm thinking. Once cap gymnastics done.

Fleury
I think it's pretty close to 0 chance that Fleury plays here. Also, close to 0 is getting Chicago to retain half his deal, especially considering how Duncan Keith trade went. They had 1 interested party, we gave them a Dman that can play right now, and a pick, and still ended up taking on all the salary.

Top D for a Top C
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ajp_18</b></div><div>I know Drai is good and is totally a number one on a lot of teams.... I don’t know why you’d want to trade him.... in a few year you could have one of the best one two punches in the NHL, just like Pittsburgh has not with Crosby and Malkin......</div></div>
Oilers really need a high end D man. There are a small handful of those guys I'd trade Draisaitl(+) for, but I doubt any teams with those players would do a deal. Really, great Cs and Ds tend to be held on to, cause they're hard to come by.
Oilers missed out on the original Seth Jones trade, and now it makes a lot less sense for him to be moved again. I personally like the Oilers' one-two punch though. I think Drai just needs some better wings. They probably are going to have to luck out in the draft for a good top 2 D.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>You're over cap - JP is gonna cash some of those bonuses playing with Neal and Draisaitl. If you hadn't overpaid Neal you might've got away with it... Neal's boxcars 71, 25-19-44 (-11) aren't as good as Vanek's 80, 24-32-56 (-3), Vanek is just 3 years older, more likely to accept a 1-year deal and is worth like $2.5 - 3.0M.</div></div>
I'm not sure what JP's bonuses are exactly and what he'll hit this year, of course, but they <em>can</em> go over cap from bonuses, although it isn't ideal (for 2019-20 season). Really, if Vanek can be subbed in for a lot cheaper (the Oilers don't really get players at bargain value), then that's even more ideal, as maybe they can add Vanek + Grabner for practically the same cash and be better across the board. Of course all these guys will have competition throughout the league to be signed, so this is just one idea. I would definitely be happy with Vanek at a cheaper price point though.. even if it's more than $3M.

Oops, I will have to edit that with someone UFA. That was not my intent.. thought I had only UFA's selected. Will find someone else to fill in for cheap. Offersheets are not something I would want to consider, no, so nix Hartman. I should have noticed that.
edit: swapped in Chiasson for him... not sold on a specific player, but the idea would be it would have to be filled by a cheap, serviceable 3rd liner somehow.

Top D for a Top C
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ajp_18</b></div><div>Ummmm your top center isn’t Drisital..... it’s McDavid..... also Jones will be staying in Columbus, he’s still young and going to be one of the best in the league.... I don’t think we trade him for anyone but the deal is fair, I just wouldn’t do it. Also Drisital is overpaid and if this were to happen you’d have to retain on him.</div></div>
Not my roster, but Draisaitl isn't the top centre in Edmonton because they have the best player in the league (arguably) as their top centre. Drai could be a top C on a lot of teams. Also, I'm a homer here, but I think his contract will look considerably better in the future. He's only 22. I had hoped for around $7.5M, so it's a little more than what I expected, but he could really bloom on another team where he is the ... *CSI shades* centre of attention.
That said, not saying the suggested trade works, necessarily, just saying Draisaitl is quite a good C, and definitely capable of being a top line C of the future.

I'm an Oil fan, but would agree that 4 to 10 is a very huge drop... too much to make this work as is. Word from "The Bob" is there's even quite a big drop after 8th or 9th pick.

Yeah, I didn't really look hard for a team for Russell. My main thought there was bury a corpse somewhere in the league... I'm not sure who will take on Russell's 4M, but the Oilers are going to have to move two of their 4M+ D men.
