Florida is the team to beat in the East. . The Western conference is stacked , wouldn’t be surprised if COL, DAL, EDM, or VGK makes it to the SCF

I've seen fans trip about it but I'm gonna say it.
San Jose did really well in Hertl deal. Say what you want but I think Grier's done a nice job there. There is few teams I geniuinly think a tear down is neccesary and San Jose is one of them. They had no prospects and long expensive contracts on guys pushing 30 when Grier got there. He's slowly but surely rebuilding a base there, it's gonna take a while but considering all those contracts player were overpaid he's done fairly well imo.
He's came away with Edstrom, 1st, and likely a pick around 12th overall for guys who had no value to them anymore. They had no future of possibly competing with those guys on the roster. Also clearing about 17m in long term cap space.

Dare I call this a fair trade? The retention on Hertl stinks for SJS, but its not like Hertl was getting any more valuable. The Sharks get back a prospect who I am a very big fan of and a 1st, while also moving off of a terrible contract. Hertl will be extremely good in Vegas for the next 3 - 4 years, which is perfect for them. That center depth is terrifying. I like it for both sides to be completely honest, but if I had to pick a winner its obviously going to be Vegas

(ARI/TBL) - Dumba, 2025 7th (ARI) for 2027 5th (TBL)
While my feelings on the Duclair trade are still mixed, this trade has me quite satisfied.
I haven't watched Dumba much the last 2 years, it appears as if he's taken a step back offensively.
However this is a great trade for Tampa. Julien paying next to nothing to acquire a guy who is an instant upgrade to our damaged top 4. A right handed, 2 way, veteran defensemen who can move the puck and hold his own. This trade finally addresses our biggest hole, the blueline. Even if he's only a rental, Dumba makes us more competitive and takes some serious strain off the younger defensemen we currently have in our lineup. Raddysh, Perbix, Crozier, Lilliberg. For that reason alone this trade is a win.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CantStopWontStop</b></div><div>I couldn’t possibly disagree more.
Buchnevich is as mid as guentzel. I never said he wasn’t.
Neither of these players are elite. They’re adequate. They don’t take over the game. They do their job. They’re given 100% of the good icetime. They have the best linemate, matchups, special teams, and d pairings possible. In guentzels case he literally has one of the best all time nhlers as his center. They’re good enough to do the job and that’s about it.</div></div>
"Mid" is a weird description for either of them. Michael Bunting is the one who is literally "mid". Now onto Jake, the worst thing about this "Crosby made Jake" take you and many others go on is that you can't answer a rather simple follow up question, if Crosby can make a guy a top line LW who is a ppg playoff performer and near that for is career... Why aren't all the other wingers who played with Sid on that level? Why is Conor Sheary who came into the team at the exact same time as Jake a bottom liner on near league minimum now? Shouldn't he be a top line player too? It's almost like you have to have skills to play with one of the greats of all time. Jake is objectively the best winger to ever play with Sid. The numbers back that up. Clearly then this very lazy take of "Sid made him and he is overrated" falls apart.

The more we learned about this trade, the happier I got as a Jets fan. I was thrilled with the 2nd + 3rd, but when the 50% retention came out about 30 minutes later, I was ecstatic

(PIT/CAR) - Guentzel, Smith for Bunting, Koivunen, Ponomarev, Lucius, 2024 2nd (PHI), 2024 5th (CAR)
Wow. This is an absolute fleece job by Carolina. I like Koivunen a lot, Lucius is solid, and Ponomarev is alright, but this is Jake freakin' Guentzel we are talking about. Pittsburgh doesnt even get a 1st unless Carolina makes the SCF. Feels like Dubas could've done so much better, guys like Morrow or Blake or Nadeau would've been far more fair.
For Carolina, this is the superstar they have long wanted. Guentzel is one of the best wingers in this league, and they didnt even have to give up any of their best prospects to get him. Excellent addition and he will thrive in Carolina.
For Pittsburgh, I already mentioned I really like Koivunen and I think Bunting next to Crosby will be very fun, but man this is underwhelming. I doubt Ponomarev or Lucius become much more than bottom 6ers, and they arent really guys you want to kick off your rebuild. This is going to be a tough pill to shallow for Pens fans who rightfully expected much more for a guy who gave his all to the organization for years.
The real winners here are NHL fans who are thrilled Vegas didnt land Guentzel. Heres to hoping they strike out on Buchnevich as well!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>you are assuming SJS wants him back lol</div></div>
They absolutely do. He's been great in the locker room, good in the community, and good on the ice. He had a couple of games where he was rightfully scratched for low effort, but I imagine it can be tough losing night in and night out.
I do question if he'll actually re-sign here in the offseason, but mostly because players are often complimentary on their way out but rarely re-sign.

Tampa gets a decent middle six winger.
San Jose gets a disbarred lawyer will who sue video game developers.

(COL/NSH) - Hanzel, 2025 3rd (COL) for Trenin, Sward
I really like the idea of Trenin in Colorado, and I like Graham Sward. That being said, I REALLY like Jeremy Hanzel and I think a 3rd round pick is exactly what Trenin is worth. It's not like Colorado got fleeced or anything and they did add a useful player, but I think Nashville wins. Hopefully Trenin can go back to his 17 goal self and keep playing his physical style of game, then I think its pretty easy to argue Colorado won

Fair deal, but I'm bias so I'm going Montreal
Montreal - Perreault has finishing ability, with legit middle 6 potential.
Anaheim - Mysak is a PKing bottom 6 projected center.
Both still very young, and the sky is the limit. Mysak wasn't ever going to be given a legit shot in Montreal, where Perreault will.
