The only reason for proposing this 'give-a-way' is because Leafs are in a bind for cap space. If anything these two are equivalent. If you'd followed AN while with Americans and with Sabres you'd understand why he was traded. Meanwhile Johnsson was not only named the AHL MVP...but is a 20-goal scorer with the Leafs....

Have to believe that Lou negotiated ZH's salary...and held opinion that ZH was not worth a penny more. Imo, Hyman's points are attributable to the quality of his linemates ...and Lou would have paid for his 'special skills'...and not because of any offensive acumen. Next year ZH will be 29 ...which, as I am given to understand, is the generally regarded physical peak of most athletes. Just saying...

And no way the Leafs would part ways with Hyman. He is the most consistent player on the roster. Also, the Rangers would not give up that much</div></div>
Now that Babs/LT relationship is no longer relevant(?), what is purpose in continuing to tout Hyman ...for an AAV cost of x3 depth players? (see: Toronto Star ROBERT CRIBB INVESTIGATIVE REPORTER Thu., Sept. 16, 2010)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gordon_Bombay</b></div><div>Well if Dumba would be such a star, he should at least be better than Suter and Brodin in Minnesota. Also, Dumba has a higher cap hit than Rielly. And never underestimate Hyman. He is a real winner. Coaches kill to get guys like Hyman. He is setting the standard for every dressing room he is walking in in terms of work ethic. Even in the whole Marner - Babcock relationship where Marner had to list the players in terms of attitude, you can assue Hyman was the one ranked highest.</div></div>
We clearly don't share similar opinions.
As for Babs, now that he has left TO, and no longer needs to ingratiate himself with Tannenbaum(?), it will be interesting to see whether he continues to voice same views. Don't get me wrong, Zach is a good kid...who works hard...but he is 28...his offensive skills are capped out ...and his 'days of privilege' playing with some of NHL's most elite talent...can no longer be indulged...at least in a flat cap universe.

You're gonna trade away Hyman, Johnsson and Kerfoot to have THAT left side?!?
I bet De Melo gets closer to $4 million than $2 million</div></div>
Damn right I'd like that left side! I'm both a Marlies and a Petes subscriber and have watched both the "Giraffe" and also Nick. Confess to not knowing anything about "Barb"...but, like all Leafs fans, I've watched both Johnsson and also Kerfoot...and, without disrespect to either, think that both positions can be improved on....
As for Demelo, I don't disagree that he might command higher $...but so many teams are constrained by their existing payrolls and few can offer increases without giving up existing pieces. We'll see. It was the expanding cap that was enabling creeping salary increases...

Imo, Dumba is a total star and emulates much of what Dubas seeks to champion. No disrespect to Riells...but Leafs have plenty of strength on LD that has capacity for growth (i.e.Sandin). As for Hyman, I too would keep him in some utopian world of expanding cap, ...but his specialized skill set is not worth penny more than his current $2.25m AAV - at least not on Leafs. Leafs must improve... if they wish to win...and neither Riells or Hyman have significant upside.

This guy is obviously not a Rangers fan as this is way too much to give up.
Not trading Strome for this package is kinda ridiculous though. I wouldn't do Hyman for Strome 1 for 1.
Strome's stats are hyperinflated by Panarin and he's gonna get paid out huge in arbitration.</div></div>
Just saying Leafs have a lot of pieces that could be of use to Rangers ...and Rangers have a few that could be of interest to Leafs. Their two GMs should be talking...

Rielly aint going anywhere. He had a bad season it happens. Fully expect him to bounce back next season. Dumba is not the solution for the leafs he is just rielly but on the right side.
Carter isnt retiring. He will be back next season as he stated he plans to play out his contract.
Strome without Panarin is gonna make leafs go we gave Hyman for this. Pass.
Hyman wont be moved. 2.25 mill and had 21 goals. Pass.
Also Demelo will get more.</div></div>
Carter's health isn't certain...and remains to be seen whether he 'could' be a valuable LTIR.
Don't disagree that Demelo might command more...but that remains to be seen
Off course Rielly is valuable...just saying that he should be considered in exchange for the 'right piece'. No such thing as 'sentimentality' for those who seek to win.
Same applies to Hyman. Nice guy but he arguably has more value as trade chip. ..and, when he comes off current AAV, Leafs can't afford a high-priced LW with specialized skill set - given less expensive alternatives on LW... and in light of flat cap. There is argument for Leafs seeking to realize some of that value in a trade to fill obvious depth issues.
As for Rangers, there is a trade to be made there somewhere...just saying
If you're not open to ALL options...and are sentimental...you'll never make a real GM...

Doh! Of course LTIR is not equal to cap space.
And, IMO, given Leafs strength at LD ...moving Rielly is best way to solve Leafs biggest shortcoming - unless you aren't a Leafs fan...and don't care whether they win Stanley. Leafs should strive to be in Final each of next 2 years...and Rielly is a viable trade chip - provided ML receive what is fair return on RD.

Imo, Leafs have to win in next 2 years...or its bye bye for another +50yrs. Pietrangelo can provide what Leafs need to put them over the top. In 3yrs time Tavares could be past his prime? Go for it now...as Raps did with Kawhi...or maybe go for Manson or Dumba or Dougie H...but sadly to do that will require trading Riels.

Addressing Issues
Can't disagree with your assessment - except for Kaskisuo. Are you a Marlies season ticket-holder? Alternately, do you know Sheldon? If so, you wouldn't have made that statement. Need I elaborate on specific games this year/end of last?
Above said, my proposal is an 'opening offer'. There is no baggage attached to it - which in itself telegraphs a message to Guerin.
