Deadline
You think Yzerman is going to trade his starting goalie away and bank of Cossa turning out? That is so risky and simply idiotic. Goalie prospects are so hit or miss, this deal has too much potential to blow up, just for an extra late round pick. You are trying to do too much smh

Detroits quietish trade deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>EccE</b></div><div>I haven't scouted Gagner at all. Can you, as a Wings fan, tell me a bit about him:
Does he win faceoffs?
Is he reliable in the D-zone or is he a liability?
What offence does he have in him, if any?
Where in the lineup has he played for Detroit this season?
If you were a contending team, would you even think about acquiring him?
Thank you!</div></div>
I think he is a reliable defensively with limited upside offensively. He has bounced between the 3rd and 4th line, mainly at RW. He can play center and has in the past. Any contending team would probably play him on the wing, likely on the 3rd or 4th line, which is the smartest decision. I think a contending team would take a chance on Gagner. He does not carry significant cap, is a veteran player, and will not cost much. I think a 4th round draft pick is a fair asking price, but that can vary on his market. If anything, he can bring depth which we all know is needed come playoffs. So many injuries occur and oftentimes it is a war of attrition. Having a solid defensive forward like Gagner as an extra would not be a bad thing.

I think Benning wants to get rid of that contract BAD. Demko was alright in the reg season, and Van has DiPietro right behind him

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BStinson</b></div><div>Of all the teams you listed on NJ didn’t cut payroll. We are talking about Melnyk & Pegulas whom reported internal caps. Demko looked strong for three games but had a rather mediocre regular season. We have Hronek, Seider, and Lindstrom as RD as soon as next year. That’s not even counting Tuomisto. Ladd is three more years on an anchor of a contract.</div></div>
I do like Detroit's potential depth at RHD. I belong to the school of thought being you cannot have too many defensive prospects. Detroit has the cap flexibility to take on a lot of bad contracts and I hope the returns are better than what I put.

If you do not think Detroit takes Drysdale at 4, who does Yzerman pick? I've always been under the school of thought that you cannot have too many good defensive prospects(colorado)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BStinson</b></div><div>Those bridge deals for Mantha and Bert are straight to UFA. We take on 6M deadcap for Flower only for a 3rd and 4th, pass. Wilde (RD) isn’t a pressing need to take on Ladd’s contract not enough value. Value also seems light from Vancouver and I doubt Eriksson waives.</div></div>
I understand the returns are not shiny, but Detroit only gains from these situations. Keep in mind they have to compete with Ottawa, Buffalo, NJ, and L.A. in the flat cap race. Demko looked strong against Vegas and Wilde is a right handed d-man, projected to make the NHL in 2021-22. Those do not come around very often. That is why Yzerman jumped on Seider.

While I agree about better right wing play, you need to draft BPA if you have the 4th pick. I think Yzerman will take whoever is available at 4 between Stutzle, Byfield, or Drysdale. I am completely fine with any, but Stutzle is the hope

L.A. taking Byfield at 2 and Ottawa taking Drysdale at 3. Ottawa still gets a very good forward prospect at 5, I bet they jump on the best D-man before Detroit has a chance of taking him

His NMC becomes modified NTC next year in he can be traded to half the league. Backes has become a 4th liner. His contract also becomes MTC but only 8 teams. The only good thing about it is after July 1 he is only owed 8m over final 2 years. Cap hit still 6 per tho.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>3 or 4 players and the rest are garbage? That's a dumb comment honestly.
Kane, Schmaltz, DeBrincatt, Crawford are all top line guys on most teams.
Keith, Toews, Saad, Anisimov are all 2nd line players on most teams.
There's 8 players that aren't garbage.
Others like Hinostroza, Duclair, Rutta and Murphy are all 3rd or 4th line role players on any team.
Then there's Jokiharju and Sikura both who will be rookies this or next year who are amongst the top 10 talent coming into the league in 2018.
So that's 14 players who aren't "garbage".
Additionally, with a minimum of $11.5M in cap space, and all the picks in this year's deep draft, you don't think the Hawks can pick up more then just a top line scorer? They could pick up a 1st liner and 2nd liner plus sign a couple young guys with that space. And if the cap goes to $80m, which many predict, now you are a minimum of $13.5M in space which could equate to two 1st liners (say one of each, Defense and Offense).
If Crow comes back to his usual self, which is a big if, the Hawks need two guys. A 1st line D guy and a 2nd liner or better forward that score. That alone will take them to the playoffs.
Again, let's be realistic folks.</div></div>
The difference is the core is aging, and every other team will have cap space. Why would any free agent go to a team past its prime when there are at least 15 better options to win a cup? You act like every single free agent is going to want to go to Chicago. Schmaltz is just a product of Kane being a stud, Toews is a 3rd line center now, Saad is a disappointment, seabrook is slow, and keith can't even score.
Lets be realistic
