OMFG, dude: I AM NOT SAYING YOU ARE WRONG. All I said is to say that the players CGY sends back are "trash" is incorrect. They are not incompatible. They can both be good players AND not anywhere close to getting Pettersson.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Onlyfairtrades1</b></div><div>Wrong. Fox made it known he would stay in college one more year and become a UFA and sign with the Rangers in a year so Carolina had no choice but to trade him and got what they could, which was way less than if he didn't put them in a corner. IF....and the most important word here is IF........IF Kane has told Chicago only the Rangers, it's the same. In that IF scenario, Chicago has no leverage and should take whatever Drury offers because it's better than nothing. I am still of the opinion this rumor is BS and the Rangers are NOT trading for Kane.</div></div>
Wrong. Adam Fox was very wishy-washy about if he'd sign in CGY or CAR, and he honestly was a bit underscouted by other teams. Rangers were both smart to see his upside, and lucky that they didn't have to worry about wishy-washy feelings since he was open about wanting to play for the Rangers. Plus, with Fox it is a younger player who you are trading the rights for. Check out this Rangers blog post about how he was non-commital about signing elsewhere before the Rangers acquired him: https://bluelinestation.com/2022/04/30/april-30-new-york-rangers-history-adam-fox-becomes-blueshirt/
Patrick Kane is a proven NHL superstar and Cup winner. And again, Giroux said "I'm going to Florida or I'm not waiving my NTC." You can verify that point here: https://nhl.nbcsports.com/2022/03/21/claude-giroux-arrives-in-florida-time-to-go-to-work/ If Kane says "I'm going to the Rangers or I'm not waiving my NTC" are you seriously saying that Chicago can't get a comparable or better return than CHUCK FLETCHER got for Giroux?

Hm. I honestly am not sure, I have had Henrique moved in a few of my other TDL ones. I still think they're going to want a 1st because he has term and he really has been good. Maybe no 3rd? But I think Henrique's market may be a bit competitive.

The thing with the idea of "the coach doesn't want to play him" is that it drives down his value and perception. I'm not disagreeing that its because of Gallant he's not playing, but to other NHL GMs and coaches they think "huh, this coach who is relatively highly regarded doesn't think this guy is cut out for NHL minutes." Also, he's played less than 40 NHL games to date. You are again just proclaiming that he will have a long NHL career based on....what? Prospects can and do bust or just don't work all the time. I'm not saying he WILL but that will the counter argument from other GMs. It is very common for us fans to think all our prospects are going to be long time NHLers, and I don't mean to **** on you or anything. But, that is the way the business works. You're also getting PATRICK KANE who is older but has a resume that is going to demand a decent return even if he forces his way to the Rangers. Giroux, a player I love but is not Patrick Kane, got a 1st and a guy similiar to Kravtsov in Tippett and a 3rd. You think Kane is worth the same (I'd say the 3rd and the "B" prospect are the same), but I'm telling you he is going to get a bit more which could be Jones.

buying while also getting assets
The problem with this idea that the Canes flip Smith is that, if his value is so low that the Bruins will be getting very little or nothing in return, how are the Canes going to get value for him then? Why wouldn't, say Anaheim, just cut out the middleman in Carolina? If the Canes get Smith, they either plan on using him or will bury him. Reilly on the other hand could be useful for them for sure, but may be better bottom 6 guys out there (Kulikov?)

Don't see any reason for Buffalo to give up those assets for Kane when they have a realistic shot at signing him for free in a season where they will probably be better anyways. Same goes for the other guys if you want them too, all UFAs.

If this rumor is true, then Drury has all the leverage, like Gorton with Adam Fox and the Canes, and what happened? There is no reason to give up much in that circumstance. But if Kane will go to other teams like Carolina or Vegas, then the cost will be too high for the Rangers IMO and they are better off chasing a guy like Janeau or Bjugstad or Lafferty.</div></div>
I disagree its not like Fox at all. Its much more like Giroux, as I explained. Fox was an unsigned NCAA player who had already been traded once.

Well Carolina doesn't need the retention unless they're planning on adding even more, so I don't really see the benefit in giving up more for unneeded retention. I also would be shocked if they did a 1st for just Henrique, even if he has one more year. I think Henrique is a very good player, I don't know if he is worth a 2023 1st like say Meier is. What if they did the 2nd, Coghlan, and a prospect?

Gotcha. Yeah, Kerfoot I don't think is much of anything in such a deal. I think it'd be young (say, 26 or under) guys. Woll like you said is not a bad idea. I think they'd be more interested in Knies/Woll/1st than Murray to be honest. I know that Murray would need to be moved still, but from NSH perspective.

Oh I wasn't talking about the Hawks deal at all, my comment was about Saros. I think Saros will cost more than Horvat because he is under contract for more years, and yes Horvat got extended but there's still risk there.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>EvanderKanesLawyer</b></div><div>A good comparison I like to make is the Horvat deal. While he is a forward (two different positions) you gotta think we could net a similar return. Horvat got a blue chip prospect, a 1st, and a young roster player. Top end player, top end goalie. Different condiments, same sandwich.
If I'm moving a Vezina caliber goalie under a team friendly deal for the next 3 seasons, I'm asking for no less. The deal would have to really entice me to consider moving him.
But like I said, Knies and a 1st is a good conversation starter but it would likely cost more.</div></div>
Absolutely agreed. I would say they need someone who is already proven at the NHL level along with Knies for example, because at the end of the day until he's proven he is still a risk to bust.

Honestly not a horrible starting point as you've acknowledged, and you deserve credit for not absolutely low balling. I would have to think the Predators would want more as we've said. If I was them, I'm looking at 1.) Young forwards (their offense is ROUGH) 2.) Young D and 3.) NHL goalie to fill until they bring up Askarov/back him up.

If CAR takes on Smith, they’re not sending a roster player back and you’re paying a heck of a lot more than a 5th</div></div>
Agreed with this, and I also think the EDM deal makes no sense for either side. Am I wrong in understanding Grz is considered a good defenseman for Boston? If so, why are you trading him. If you're EDM, why are you trading FOR him when Bouchard is cheaper and younger AND giving up another 1st?
