You SHOULD care if they trade Cizikas. Best thing to do is unload Komarov after we pay his July bonus...then a team like Detroit will take him on with a draft pick. Bellows is not playing center in the NHL, he is destined for a wing spot should he even make it long term....and any trade of Boychuk (who has an 8-team list BTW, almost all of them certainly to be close to NY since he just built a house) will have to be money retained. No one wants a 6 million per 3rd unit blue liner

We have to add a higher pick to unload Cizikas? Do you even watch hockey? Casey is a very good 3rd/4th line center- one of the best in the game and he is paramount (see recent slide without him) for the Islanders. He is netting a 3rd round pick MINIMUM if you are trading him, which we aren't anyway...but that proposal is laughable, especially on an expiring contract....

2020 Offseason
Parise is a 3 year/$18 million player in this market. That means he is getting paid 19.5 million and two years more than what he is worth. If you are going to want all three assets of two mid-round picks AND Bellows, you are going to have to retain more than that. $1.5 million minimum.
Ladd is a 4.4, 4.4, 4.8 (bury, bury, buyout) pile of poop I would agree, but that is only 13.6 million you are taking on of that 19.5 million overpay. Close the gap a little more and it is a fair deal or lessen your assets

Islanders 2020-21 More Realistic
yes, I just got confirmation on this- by paying the 3 million in bonus money on June 1st on Ladd- his buyout will be lessened in year two as the same amount in year three.......so that is another 3-3.5 million saved if they buy him out in year two (666,667 instead of 4 million by burying him). So total cost is 24-25 million as opposed to 37.5 million, a savings of 12-13 million (which could be up to 15 million if they buyout Clutterbuck as well in year two)....but the biggest thing is getting out of that major cap hit if he retires early. He has already mentioned that he isn't likely getting rid of his NTC except to play for the Islanders........

Islanders 2020-21 More Realistic
No the Wild actually SAVE 8-10 million in value over the course of the three years, not add. Yes they will take a bigger cap charge in the first two years (4 if they bury Ladd, 3.5 for Clutterbuck and 2.5 in retention which totals 10 as opposed to 7.5) but then they pay nothing in years 3 through 5 except for 2.83 million (Ladd buyout and Parise) in year three and 2.5 in years four and five. That is a total CAP hit of less than 28 million (10+10+2.83+2.5+2.5) as opposed to a 7.5 million cap hit on Parise alone over 5 years being 37.5 million. Hell, they could even buyout Clutterbuck and save another 2 million in year two. Also, by trading him the Islanders could put him in the minors in years 4 and 5 for a minimal cost until he retires- and less the likelihood that the Wild will pay the enormous payment and cap hit if he retires early.
Leddy is still a very good LD and we very well may keep him. He is on the block because we have loads of talent on the blue line and can replace his veteran leadership by re-signing Greene. Nick is only 28 years old and is better defensively than most give him credit for- which is why he nets 20 minutes a game in Trotz system. He is not a third pairing guy any way you slice it. He could get a first round pick plus at any deadline, but since this is the offseason, two seconds would probably be his ceiling. I did even less with a 2nd, 3rd and 4th....but MINIMUM he would get a 2nd and 3rd.
Lastly, the Senators are in rebuild mode and adding a low cost veteran as well as reuniting Dal Colle with his old coach and a fresh start for Ho-Sang is worth a little. I am not to far off on that trade either....but really it is getting whatever for Hickey and I think Lou could easily make that deal even if it nets him less. Maybe he has to retain 1 million (500,000 each of his two years) and maybe it nets us alone a late rounder...but again, the deal is not farfetched at the slightest......
None of the three deals are. And BTW the rumored deal was in fact Ladd and Cluttebuck and retention on Parise was being mentioned. The Islanders will pay 3 million more on Ladd's bonus, making it even more likely they retain money owed....

He is getting 8 million and the Islanders SHOULD overpay for him, since he is the lone true 25-30 goal scorer in the market and it will show we can bring in a big time free-agent.....if Skinner can get 9 last time out, Mike will get at least 7.5, likely 8 to 8.5.... Lou wants Martin back to join Johnston for a year because he is getting rid of all his other checkers except Uncle Leo.....Martin, despite playing only 50 games and 10 minutes an outing, still leads our team with 220 hits- so yes, he has value even if it is little to none offensively

Nothing short of what the Islanders were willing to give Panarin (12-13 million) isn't getting matched by the Leafs. They wouldn't have made all the moves they did if it weren't with the intention of keeping him. Also, I dont think he would like signing an offer sheet just to see you move his best friend in a trade....you also didn't sign your RFA's by the way

Fair points. But you do realize that doing those two moves in your comments (with or without trading MDC) will in fact put us over the cap ....even if I shave 100,000 off of Ho-Sang (he isnt getting less than what he did last season)

4- Dzingle is not as good at Center than Filpula is, Filpula is an amazing penalty killer. I keep Filpula for Cheaper. Also, you'd have to sign Dzingle longer term, which doesn't free up money for Barzal next season.
5- Kapanen is not a bad try, but he is a RFA and that ship has sailed. Maple Leafs will keep him.</div></div>
1. I explain in my comments why I made 7 lines- to show depth
2. Obviously I am not over the cap because I did that
3. I too would rather have Lee, but I do think the Leddy for Tartar makes sense
4. Can't argue with this too much, I also wouldn't mind Flip back, but I would probably move Cizikas up to the third line if that was the case
5. More than likely, if they are keeping Marner- one of Kapanen or Jonsson will still be traded, the fact they signed them is irrelevant

Wrong, it is ALMOST the entirety of his contract because $417,000 was his base salary and it DOES NOT count towards the cap when he is bought out for 2019-20. It does however count in 2020-21.
His cap hit is 5.4 million in 2019 and .4 million in 2020...Sportrac has this as well as many articles has it as well. It is still almost all a cap hit, but not quite...

Isles worst case scenario
Leddy is definitely worth a first round pick +. Now, obviously I am not talking about 1-2 in this year's draft- but he is CLEARLY worth 3-8 or so straight up and then you start adding. A higher end first (9-14) would probably mean you add a late rounder, a mid round first (15-20) would also need to include a fourth and if it is a low pick (21-30) you are probably needing to add a third.
With Karlsson off the board and Trouba traded today, a real lack of defensive free-agents out there and a growing need for top 4 guys across the league, Leddy has tremendous value
Since no one is trading one of their first 8 picks for anyone (almost all rumors have the 10 or 11th pick being up for grabs) then you can make your value based on that:
2019 1st rounder between 9-14 add a late rounder (5th, 6th or 7th depending on the high of the pick)
15-20 would need to add a 4th round pick
21-30 would need to add a 3rd round pick
This is sensible

The chance Dobson is ready next season is low. A safe prediction would be he gets a small taste (9 games or so) and then back to juniors one more season. It is almost guaranteed that one of Leddy/Hickey is getting moved and possibly both. Very unlikely we move three and almost no chance we trade three AND Wilde. Just isn't going to happen

Hickey MIGHT get you a fourth. Serious overpay for one year of Hoffman too. Just look at the Trouba deal. You don't have to pay that much to net a rental player. We also aren't trading 3 of our defensemen and one of our top prospects on defense all during one off season. Trotz would resign immediately.
Ehlers likely would cost a package similar to that unfortunately

Hickey barely gets you a 4th much less two draft picks. Person above who said take out Evans is correct while the person above who said Hoffman's expiring deal is worth Wilde is insane, especially if Florida is in a cap crunch after signing both Panarain and Borovsky and at least one blue liner. Just look at the Trouba trade. A one year contract player does not cost a top prospect. Your deal there is actually pretty good...

Marner OS Rumor Leddy Hickey trades and UFAs all walk
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeygoalie53</b></div><div>Ok, wow, I don't even know where to begin with your posts... but lets give it a shot....
In this scenario, the Isles don't walk away from Lee, Eberle and Lehner because we signed Marner, those guys walk because Lee and Lehner want too many years and Eberle likely wants too much of a raise. Yes, absolutely the Isles can add, but this is done with taking into account the salary increases that are needed next year for Barzal, Toews, Pulock and Sorokin (we'll get to him later), which is going to cost 18-23 million, depending on the Sorokin contract.
Also, something everyone needs to understand is that LTIR isn't a guarantee for Ladd, yes, it's incredibly likely for next season, but the Isles can't work under the assumption his contract will be LTIR'd for the remainder of it, so any moves, trades, etc have to be done taking his 5.5m CAP hit into account. Also, with LTIR it doesn't guarantee his CAP hit is available to the Islanders automatically. It only works in that if the Isles are at the CAP ceiling and need to add a player they can move his contract to LTIR and use that CAP hit to do so, meaning ONLY IN THIS CASE, can they spend up to 88.5m in CAP... moving Ladd to LTIR doesn't mean his salary doesn't count towards the CAP, it only allows the Isles to spend over the CAP if need be.
Next point - 4 of the 5 prospects are already speculated to make the team out of camp. I'll break it down for you..
dal Colle - Played well under Trotz and likely has a spot for next season on the 3rd line.
Aho - Should have made the team last year, but was a roster casualty.. he and Toews are part of the reason the Isles are looking to trade off Hickey and Leddy.
Dobson/Ho-sang - Lou has already said these two will be given every chance to make the team out of camp. Dobson has won the CHL championship two years in a row now and can't be sent to Bridgeport because of his age. Barring a disastrous camp he'll be on the team.
Wahlstrom - the ONLY one of the 5 who may start the year in Bridgeport, but could easily force his way onto the team with a strong camp.
So, not really so ludicrous when you actually look at the facts and what's been said already.
As for your last point, the idea with Ladd or Boychuk being moved in the expansion draft is similar to Grabhovski being moved to Vegas in their expansion draft. A trade would be make with SEA to steer them away from taking guys we want to keep but couldn't protect, much the way we dealt with Vegas to keep them picking Bailey (and others). At the time of the expansion draft Boychuk will have 1 year left and Ladd either 1 or 2 years left, both could be very attractive to SEA if they need the CAP hit, plus get picks and/or prospects along with them.</div></div>
I repeat:
1) The likelihood we offer sheet Marner is almost slim to none- as is the likelihood that any BIG RFA gets offer sheeted....the owners simply don't want to go down that road
2) The likelihood all 5 of your prospects making the roster is also slim to none, a realistic opinion would be 2 or 3 (AT MOST)
3) Sorokin CANNOT sign for 5 million on his first contract, so saving 20 plus million is not necessary for Barzal (9-10), Pulock (5-6) and Toews (2-3)
4) Ladd may never even play hockey again and it is highly LIKLEY he spends the entire season on LTIR which means he WILL NOT COUNT against our cap. There is also the possibility that Clutterbuck winds up there (the back problem may be much worse than reported)....even if they don't we have flexibility to get more cap space anyway and I laid them out for you
5) It is still a more likely scenario that Dobson only gets a 9 game stay and returns to juniors- for the simple reason it would not effect his ELC....sure, there is a chance he sticks but it is 50/50 best....for Ho-Sang it is even less likely, assuming he is even still on the team. MDC has the best chance of the forwards, but even that is no guarantee. Aho also has a good shot, but only if Leddy/Hickey is moved; something that may or may not happen
6) Another long shot in predicting a bad contract being chosen in the expansion draft when a young defense man will be avilable. Could it happen? Sure,. Likely? No. And that is the problem with most of this page- it is filled with so many long shot suggestions
7) Your whole thing is **** anyway because Eberle just signed for 5 years at a reasonable AAV

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeygoalie53</b></div><div>Oh, and forgot to address your other points, but this does not make us a one line team, by splitting up Barzal and Marner we have two lines. Barzal drove his own line playing with Beauvilier and Eberle 2 years ago he can do the same playing with Beau and Ho-Sang (who is capable of being Eberle, or close to it, points wise). Also, Lee-Nelson-Bailey was a solid line for us last year down the stretch, replace Lee with Marner makes that line better as well. Plus adding Cizikas and Wahlstrom to the 3rd line gives that line, potentially, more fire power as well. I could even see Wahlstrom slotting in next to Barzal and Beauvilier and Ho-Sang on the RW on the 3rd line.
Lastly, I didn't move Boychuk or Ladd this year, but suggested they could be moved the following year to clear CAP space if needed or used in the expansion draft for Seattle. There is no need to move them for the 19-20 season, if anything we'd need to move them for the 20-21 season.</div></div>
Also, Seattle is going to have zero interest in Ladd or Boychuk. They are WITHOUT A DOUBT taking one of our D-men that we can't protect: Pulock, Toews, Pelech, Mayfield or Aho (we can only protect three of them). My bet is on Mayfield because of the contract (I am assuming we protect Pulock, Toews and Pelech)

There is absolutely no reason to be 15 million under the cap, more if you put Ladd where he ultimately (likely) winds up on LTIR. Why are you being so stingy with the cap? Sorokin cant sign for that in his first contract. Yes, Barzal, Toews and Pulock have to be paid- but like you showed above that is 18 million and you are 26 million under the cap for the following season and that is without doing anything with Boychuk or Ladd. Plus, the cap will probably rise 2-3 million and a Komarov/Johnson buyout can also save you another 2-3. Absolutely no reason you can't add to this team more than simply offer-sheeting Marner, which I am personally against- especially if it means losing Lee, Lehner and Eberle and adding ONLY Marner. Ludicrous
About as ludicrous in suggesting that all five of Dobson, Aho, Ho-Sang, MDC and Wahlstrom will win spots in camp-------NOT GONNA HAPPEN (not to mention you have Fritz winning a spot too lol)

We have Greiss, Martin and a likely Kamarov buyout coming off the books as well as Leddy/Boychuk (one) would almost assuredly have to be moved if you want to make room for the Aho's, Dobson's and Wilde's....we can spend upward to 80 million of our cap easily without stressing.
