I'd take Dvorak over Compher. His game might fit well with play driving wingers like Nichushkin, Rantanen, or Lehkonen imo, so I don't hate the idea of acquiring him.
When you add in the other pieces, it's not a bad trade for the Avs. I'd rather try and get Dvorak without giving up Girard though. One of the big benefits of getting a cheaper middle six C would be keeping the D intact, and obviously moving Girard destroys that.

I disagree with your take on the dollars. I feel like 12M is more MacKinnon maxing out his value.
If it ends up you're right and I'm wrong then by all means find me on this site and give me the old "I told you so" lol. I can take it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Islesforthecup</b></div><div>All media noise???? Mackinnon is easily a top 3 F in the league. He also hasnt really made his money on his first contract.
Landy took a hometown discount its true but they arent comparable at all in terms of talent. Makar took 9m but he was an rfa and it only bought 1 ufa year. Do you think on his next contract makar is going to take a number equivalent with 9m last year or is he going to try and reset the d market with a massive contract?</div></div>
The point is that both Landy and Makar "took less because they want to win with this group" with the quotes here being what MacKinnon said in interviews a year and a half ago. The media noise now is that he wants to be the highest paid player in the league. It comes from Adrian Dater, who used to be a pretty credible beat writer for the team but has since had a pretty nasty fall from grace.
To me, MacKinnon best comp is Barkov. Nate deserves more, but not that much, especially if he follows through on the discount.

Even if you want to predict a discount which is not very predictable youre looking at minimum 8×12. Truth be told barring a big injury i dont see any way he takes less than that.</div></div>
It's all media nonsense. MacKinnon is a great player, but he's not a 12M plus player. Fair value is probably more around 11 to 11.5.
Further, when Landeskog does 7M and Makar does 9M, it follows that MacKinnon also signs for a reasonable figure. He even said he would a year and a half ago.
Thank you for yelling at he here though, lol.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vikhodush</b></div><div>Projecting what a player will be worth in over 2 years seems like a fools errand</div></div>
You kinda have to look ahead. This is no different. A guy could be worth more or less, but with Dvorak I think the key is that he'll most likely be movable.
I didn't go any further than a 1st or pigeonhole any team the reason you state though. We certainly can't be too accurate that far out.

There are no credible reports on that. Just Dater, who is a total has been. It would be quite the 180 from when MacKinnon said "I'll take less again because I want to win with this group."

Finishing touches
Take out Helm and Pitlick since they both just signed and make the 1st in 2024 and I think Colorado considers it. The team seems pretty hell bent on hanging onto the 2023 pick, so I'd say that's likely a deal breaker, even with the condition.

As an Avs fan, I like the Dallas and Detroit trades, but that's because they're really bad for the other teams. If Bjorkstrand only fetches what he got, Compher would get a third at absolute best (and that's likely optimistic). Pavelski won't be moved unless something goes horribly wrong in Dallas.
Connor would be great, but not at that price, and his contract probably doesn't fit past this year. Back to the drawing board, lol.

How to Get Crouse
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>earl08</b></div><div>I think he has Nuke potential. He already gets a lot of D zone starts and averages 2m/game of PK. His skating is much improved from a few years ago. He is a decent fighter. Crouse has that natural size and strength.
He's the new NHL version of a power forward and the Avs would have to overpay to get him.</div></div>
I don't dislike Crouse. I kinda wanted him at the deadline, just not for the asking price. In any case, there is a ton of risk with him. If he doesn't not only replicate last season but also build on it, then his contract stinks. Girard is a sure thing. You can argue he's expendable (I'd disagree but can at least see the justification). But if he were moved, I would hope it's for either another sure thing or some really good futures.

They are both good, but I think Girard has more value, as he is locked up through his prime, whereas Lindholm will likely decline during his next deal.
I actually think Girard is underrated on this site. He has always been behind a Barrie or Makar and doesn't get the type of favorable deployment or PP1 time that would boost his point totals. When Cale was hurt a couple years ago, Girard put himself in the Norris conversation for a time.
Avs don't want to move him. But if they did, they would certainly ask for a similar or perhaps better package than what Lindholm brought. Everyone can opine on whether they'd pay it, and that's all well and good, but that's what I think it would take to get him.

Colorado can easily just sign one of the remaining UFAs if the want a bottom six forward. That wouldn't cost them Kaut, and whoever they sign would make a lot less than Hornqvist. There is just no incentive at all for them to take on an aging, declining, and expensive player like they are here.

I'm not sold on Dvorak at that price. Could he be a good 2C between better playmaking wingers like Rantanen and Lehkonen? Yeah, maybe. But he could also be Compher 2.0, which is something the Avs don't need or want. Too much risk there.
Dvorak to Colorado for a bargain price I can see. But I personally don't think Colorado gives up Girard for anything less than a clear steal.

It's possible that a player like Hinostroza (he looked good last season) won't get a place in the line-up, and I'm not even sure that Kaut is better than him. If it was some kind of RD, it would make more sense.</div></div>
Yeah I expected that response. It opens up more trade possibilities though. For example, Hinostroza could be moved to a team with injury issues later in the year. Maybe it's still not worth it, which is fine, but I would think Buffalo at least thinks about it (obviously depending on what their conversations with Johnson are like).

Natural disasters change of scenery trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coga16</b></div><div>I think the idea of moving him for a waiver excempt prospect makes sense. But target a Dman or at least a prospect that isnt committed to overseas like Bokk. You wont get any value of him there, Kaut if in the AHL, you have that mechanism to call him up if needed bc of injuries etc, that is assuming he doesnt steal a 13th roster spot for the fwds
I wonder about a D prospect like Ville Heinola in winnipeg. He is in the same kaut window. Keeps on playing in the AHL, doesnt seem like there is any rooom for him at the NHL level. Hes in no mans land in the org.</div></div>
I thought about Heinola but I think he's more valuable than Kaut. He also has two more years of waivers exemption, which is likely part of the reason they're content to take their time with him. I would do that in a heartbeat if Winnipeg would though.
With Bokk, my understanding was that he was on loan and should be back in the AHL this year. If not, it's definitely a negative that I didn't consider.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coga16</b></div><div>kaut at the very least can be a PK/bottom 6 defensive foward somewhere in the league. There is safety there. Bokk to me seems like a very high risk hail mary shot bc he is know for his soft hands and "offensive" ability. His last few seasons at the pro level really havent shown that flair that made him a 1st round pick.
If he cant score in the AHL or other pro levels as a high rate, hard to imagine him translating that to the pro level.</div></div>
He was always considered a long-term project. That time is obviously running out, but at least you get part of a year to develop him in the AHL (or showcase him for trade). Idk what you do with Kaut. He could very well be claimed I'd they try to send him down.

The upside is dwindling for sure. Could be considered a hail Mary I guess. Most likely results in nothing, but they give up nothing (Kaut wasn't even a black ace).

Baily shouldn't have negative value, but teams aren't making it cheap to take money these days. Bjorkstrand got just a 3rd and 4th, Pacioretty just future considerations, Nemeth cost a 2nd and 3rd to move, and Burns didn't cost what he should.
All that is to say that I would guess Baily goes for a lower price (perhaps even a lot lower).

There was a time when Dater had sources and broke some info, but now he just throws nonsense out and then backtracks later. It's kinda sad, tbh. Like a formerly competitive prize fighter getting beat up for a payday at the end of his career.
Anyway, I don't buy it for a single second. MacKinnon going from "I'll take less again" to wanting to be the highest paid player in the league is a complete 180 and entirely out of character for him.
