<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>a1111</b></div><div>attaching a pick to Petry to get rid seems unlikely but who know's and why not if so ? Mike Hoffman , Jonathan Drouin come to mind . Christian Dvorak was a good NHLer before moving to Mtl . Maybe we can fetch a first ( we pay more) and let Shane Wright fill the void ?
Your probably right about price of UFA .. But this is a simplify version .. Making trade come with shi tty conversation .Like just mentionning Price ( i should have avoid at all cost)</div></div>

The guys you mention are all going to be tough sells to try and move out though. Petry's struggles and contract have been beaten to death around these parts, so we don't need to revisit. Mike Hoffman is a 32 year old goal scorer who's only scored 9 this year and has 2 more years at $4.5M. Drouin is signed for another year at $5.5M and has never really lived up to his prospect hype. Dvorak is a fine player but hurt, costs $4.45M for the next 3 years, and cost a 1st and 2nd less than 6 months ago. You're either paying to dump or getting nothing on the first three guys, and definitely losing value on Dvorak if you flip him out.

Let's say you *do* move all 4 guys tho - now you've got to fill basically a full top 6 line of forwards and your RD1. The guys you talk about bringing in (Guhle/Harris/etc) are all going to be young rookies and likely to need a year or two to develop (it's not out of the question they're immediate stars, but I think it's smarter to not just assume that.) If you're Claude Giroux and you're turning 35 next season, are you signing a long term deal with a team like that? Or are you more likely to take shorter term with Cup contenders and try and chase the ring you haven't had yet.

It's definitely understandable why you're aiming for those guys, I think there's just too many moving parts to make that happen in Montreal next season. I think you take next year to develop your younger guys and really push hard in the summer of 2023 to take the next step towards contention.
