It's not my trade, I'm not OP :)
Also, because the post is titled "Jake can be extended" meaning it's about *Jake* Guentzel.
Also, because he's on the roster
Also, because it's in the description

The trade was the Ducks pick top 5 protected and the rangers 1st. Along with the other pieces. It’s pretty much same value as the panthers Tkachuck trade just different age groups and expanded team control on the assets.</div></div>
Oh no, I know who he is.
He's a dman with solid defensive accumen, but almost zero offensive or puck moving ability. He's playing 2nd pair minutes on Anaheim because the team is awful, and he's getting absolutely buried in it. But he's also 23, and will improve and stabilize, but I see him as a future defensive 3rd pairing dman on a good team or top 4 on a bad one.
Anyways, that doesnt move the needle for EP40.
Anyways 2.0, the trade was the 2025 Anaheim 1st. I wrote that it needs to be the 2024 Anaheim 1st.

There's about a zero percent chance Ottawa is interest in adding a 5x$5.375 goalie, unless they're sending out their 5x$4 goalie.
Cause there is no chance they're going to have both around.

Make it the 2024 ANA 1st assuming it's not top 5, and you've got a deal. Can even keep Lacombe and Jones if you want, they don't really carry any weight.

Jeez, people...put the playstation controler down for Price's sake.</div></div>
I mean, I disagree, there's lots of players worth 3 firsts... depending on where those 1sts are. I doubt the Canucks would accept the 30th, 31st, and 32nd overall for EP40. That being said though, the most recent 5th oa, a top 10 pick, and another mid 1st pick is a looooooooooot.
Here's a fun fact I just talked to my Canadiens friend about: Elias Pettersson is on pace for his second straight 100 pt season. The last Montreal Canadien to score 100 pts in a season was Mats Naslund in 1985-86, almost forty years ago.

Hey, I agree this isn't enough, but "Guentzel is worth a midround pick"??
That's crazy, especially cause we just watched the Canucks trade much more than that for Lindholm who is also a UFA. And Guentzel is worth at least the same, likely more.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Epic_Ninja_Dude</b></div><div>Value wise the Canucks trade is probably somewhat close, just don't see the Canucks doing that. Joshua-Blueger-Garland has been an amazing line and I don't think they'll break it up. If they do end up having to move Garland due to cap constraints, I'm sure they'd rather just move him for a pick, then sign someone to replace him (something similar to the Suter contract last offseason). That's cheaper, less term, probably a younger player, and all around less risk than bringing in Gallagher.</div></div>
I gotta think that the Canucks would do this though, the value is really solid and they're already looking like they won't be able to keep the line together. This may even give them to room to keep Blueger/Joshua, plus add the assets

Hard pass on Vatrano.
Classic case of a mediocre offensive talent joining a bottom feeder team, them putting the player in a prime role cause they have no talent on the roster, and he gets more success just because of the role.
Guys been a third liner his whole career and unable to break 40 points until he joined Anaheim, and is having a breakout season at nearly 30 because hes playing top line and top powerplay.

I understand the goal, but a price like that is prohibitive.
This is a guy who's on pace for 59 points, after being a ~35 average his whole career. Not some superstar game breaker.
Doesn't move the needle enough for two 1sts.

another vatrano post
Hard pass, for all sorts of reasons.
First, the Canucks have a lot to prove before they can be as confident as Tampa was that their future 1sts will be very late.
Second, Hagel was like 23 years old when he got traded.. Vatrano is 29. Hagel was a young player still developing while Vatrano is about to hit 30, those aren't comparable.
Third, with 50% retention Vatrano would come on a 2x1.825 deal. Hagel had a 3x1.5 contract, and he was STILL an RFA at the end of it. Nowhere near the same.
Fourth, while their trade year outputs are similar (37in55 for Hagel, 36in50 for Vatrano), one was 23 and developing, the other is having a career year at 29 after a previous high of 41 pts in 81 games.

Vancouver
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>habitantlecolon</b></div><div>I love how other fans bash Anderson but would be surprised how the guy offers a second effort and even tries to block or break play in the neutral zone. Defensively he's not a wreck either. Our team is ba at managing gap space and stick lines. Our system is also a mix of man-to-man which is a hell to play with so many ahler or rookies. Anderson deserves a better understanding</div></div>
Maybe he does, but Mikheyev is head and shoulder better than him defensively, and is one of the fastest skaters in the entire league, and contributes more offensively. Why would the Canucks be paying to exchange him for Anderson? Anderson has the edge in physicality and net-front offense, but that's it. Mikheyev is way better in every other facet.

That's terrible, Canucks paying assets to downgrade their roster player. Sure they save cap, but Anderson stinks.
Mikheyev is a defensive force, a little things king, and an absolute speedster, Anderson is an anchor in human-form.
No thanks.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingExLeafs</b></div><div>Watch Lindholm get re-signed in Vancouver.
It happens everywhere else, just not in Toronto for some reason.</div></div>
It would also be very Leafs to spend all their cap on extending Guentzel instead of on a d-core that's losing just about everyone not named Reilly.
In any case, I'm sure another team would beat that offer. Pens probably see no value in Bertuzzi, and Minten has stagnated since being drafted and looks like a future bottom sixer. Someone's gonna offer more.

I think there's a real chance someone ponies up a 1st for Tanev at the deadline, but it just won't be the Canucks. Not a big enough needle mover for their roster to justify it, honestly.
