When ppl say Caufield is small and that is somehow...this huge disadvantage?... it lets me know they dont understand how physics or the game is played.
Caufield's center of gravity is so low and he's so strong on his skates that he's almost impossible to check in transition and just squirts by you with guys swinging their arms at him then missing continually instead of using a shoulder or hip.
The problem with his size is that he needs someone like a Skafkovsky to fish out pucks.
Caufield as I said is a great piece in the puzzle to complement guys but I wouldn't necessarily start a franchise with him because you need those hard to find pieces like Slafkovsky to complement him. This is team building after all I thought on this site.
Caufield's all time low shooting percentage and league low shooting % among shooters over 200 SOG will correct itself and Cole will be a 40 goal scorer for a decade playing with Nick and Slaf. Hes top10 in shots this year and ill go over 300SOG with the shoulder injury that has clearly effected him. We've seen this before with players like Tarasenko coming off an injury before a bounce back from a shoulder surgery.

TBF, the Burns comp is closer.
Larsson was only 22-23 years old and ate top pair minutes at that age.
Letang is 37 in 2 weeks, players that old almost never return a lot

Letang himself is worth one late first. He's still playing 24:40/game and producing at elite rates at ES. He's much weaker defensively than he used to be, but as a 2RD, he's well above average. The $12m in dead money is what the other 1st is for.

I would pay double for Necas over Zegras. That is for sure! Carolina would be crazy to let him go. One of the most underrated players in the league. The Guentzel success on line 1 with Jarvis/Aho maybe could...could... it actually mean Necas leaves to save money for Jake?

Crosby is unique. He welcomes the pressure, and lives for the challenge. Habs have a lot of pieces to compete with when you add him and a quality winger, and we ALSO have the pieces to help the Pens. A deal makes a lot of sense here.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wreckless</b></div><div>I dunno about Colorado. I mean, better team, sure. But if he wins there, vs. if brings cup number 25 to Montreal?
Number 87 in the rafters? Oh my god…
He definitely has had this cross his mind.
And I fully agree. That move would instantly make Geoff Molson millions upon millions of dollars in extra ticket revenue, ad revenue, beer revenue…</div></div>
You're right. Crosby isn't Lebron he wouldn't just choose the best team. If colorado just because his best buddy Mackinnon is there lol he's very competitive of course playing playoff hockey is important to him but he wouldn't just solely be swayed by going on the best team. Continuing to speak hypothetically bc i don't think he's going anywhere but yes Montreal would be top of the list and if he brings a cup there hed be even more immortal, itd be something to see for sure...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wreckless</b></div><div>Yep, nothing’s changed about what he’s decided to say publicly.
And his desire to do this, is in direct conflict with his desire to have meaningful seasons at the end of his career.
My guess is the latter wins out.
I can’t possibly state enough what the experience would be like for him if he came here.
He would literally transform the entire culture of our province.
We have the young core in place to support him.
It’s his childhood team.
It’s the perfect fit.</div></div>
Colorado would be before MTL. Sid has earned whatever he wants. Obviously if we were rebuilding it'd be more beneficial to the rebuild to get the absolute haul and the draft picks that Sid would bring (and for the receiving team youre selling out every single game at a 50% price increase) and if Sid wants to go then I know for a fact we would honor that. He's earned his say. If he wants to stay, stay. However, Sid has always said that it's important to him to only wear one jersey for his whole career. So idk. Outside of punditry and speculation I've never seen Sid say anything other than it's still important to him to retire a Penguin.

Offseason trade for Saros
I'd say in the offseason a trade for Saros would revolve around either a top end RD or C prospect and a 1st. The value and type of prospect would depend on where the pick falls in the 2024 draft, but considering Montreal picks around 7th I'd assume the trade Winnipeg's pick and a prospect. I think they'd ask for Reinbacher or Barron

Either add Slaf or stop trading for Kakko</div></div>
Slafs is already (nearly) pacing Kakko's production (and he's not that far behind Lafreniere either). He's also trending up while Kakko is trending down.
Kakko may well recover and eventually become a top 6 producer, but at this moment his value is low and doesn't even approach that kind of return in a trade.

There are multiple goalies I'd rather have as a free agent than spending a 3rd on Primeau. Errson has been great as a rookie and we will have Kolosov in the AHL next season. Getting rid of the Campbell contract and clearing cap space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>MTL are trying to get rid of bad contracts, not add more.
Maybe in 2 years.</div></div>
I dont think they are trying to get rid of bad contracts, I do think they are aligning their rebuild with the timeline of these contracts expiring. In 3 years Anderson, Campbell, and Gallagher will be off the books, that's $17M they could use to add an impact player either through trade (with the many assets they will have accumulated by then) or just through free agency to join their prospect that should be fully developed at that time.
Personally, this isn't enough to take Campbell, but if MTL can get 2 1sts out of this, somehow I'd consider it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wreckless</b></div><div>We’re not looking to move Slaf. What’s the asking price on Kakko?</div></div>
NYR aren't going to move Kakko unless the move helps them NOW. MTL doesn't have (or I should really say won't want to) give up the assets NYR would want to get him. Draft picks really don't do much as the player won't be able to help NYR for a few years. Most likely it would have the be a 3 way trade where MTL gives up assets to a team that has what NYR wants and gets Kakko in return, so unlikely.
For an in season trade, it would have to be one of Newhook, Slaf, Dach, Caufield, Suzuki coming back (which MTL obviously declines). For an offseason trade, Beck+mid pick could be a possibility depending on the health of Chytil.
