Going all In like Never before
My issue is I seriously don't see how WPG gets better with Stone, and the raise he will command, while giving up sooooo much depth.
Look how many guys got hurt this year. Quality depth is one of the main reasons why the Jets are as high up in the standings as they are this year. How many teams can lose Trouba, Schiefele, Lowry, Tanev, Matthias, Enstrom all at the same time, and continue to win?
Gutting the depth on the team doesn't equal success - just look at Chicago for a prime example of that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AK_tune</b></div><div>Stastny was a good pick-up. He's a smart player, should find chemistry with all of the shooters on the wings in the Peg. Can win faceoffs and play PP/PK. Been injured a lot though...
What do Jets fans know about Foley? Future NHLer?</div></div>
I'm a huge fan of Foley. Seems like he has an NHL future, but there wasn't room for him on the big club with so many young talented wingers in the system. However, I'm definitely curious to see if he signs before August. If I'm remembering correctly, he could "Jimmy Vesey" his way to free agency if he doesn't sign this summer.

I think if you get a prospect back (which is tough from VGK) and add escalating conditions on the picks where a 1st rounder may become part of the package back, I think you're happy if you're DET.
Doesn't it seem odd that the available options at D haven't moved yet? Seems like the market is paralyzed due to EK65

Yeah, this is way too much. I like the idea of grabbing Stastny, but I'm not helping STL retool on the fly. Picks only, or prospects I'm not afraid to play over the next 5 years.
2019 1st + Chase De Leo + Marko Dano + Shawn Matthias and I'm looking for 50% retention by STL.
Winnipeg has big bonus issues to deal with at year-end. Any ability to keep bonuses from tolling next year's cap is a huge win.

These seem pretty reasonable as the framework for a deal. Maybe a bit mid-pick heavy on the BUF deal, but the other looks fair

I'll second that. There's no way this ends up being the best deal out there.
EDM doesn't have the high-end or even mid-range prospects at their disposal to make a deal like this work.
NSH + TB + WPG + PHI + TOR + even VGK have more capital to get a deal like this done.
And if EDM were even able to close this deal, how in the heck do you even field a full roster if you try to resign him?!

Does this completely ludicrous EK trade work
I actually think the biggest issue is the $$$ going back to OTT. I don't see Melnyk wanting to pay all of the contracts going back. Also, losing Ryan's deal but gaining Lucic doesn't really make sense for either team. If you're OTT, taking back Lucic means the return needs to be massive.
EDM just doesn't have the prospect pool to help rebuild OTT. And frankly, I don't know why EDM would want to make this deal, because there's no way EDM can afford to re-sign Karlsson without losing Draisatl's deal.

Imagine that..
1) Keep Kovy as far away from this team as possible. This group has such great chemistry. The last thing they need is a pure me-first guy like Kovy.
2) If you're sending Mason to ARI, I think I'd prefer picks. Crouse just won't crack this lineup and is too much like Lemieux IMO.
3) I have a hard time seeing Jimmy Lodge get another contract. The Jets are creeping up to 50 contracts and there's just no development in his game. Same could be said for Kostalak.

LOVE that Jets trade. Seems too good to be true.
Don't think VGK is giving up a 1st for a rental. Just doesn't seem logical, regardless of how good they are this year. If they're dealing a 1st, it's for a guy like McDonagh with term left.

Cleveland Cavs type deadline
Doesn't it seem like they're happy to fade, admit it isn't their year, and make these types of moves at the Draft? I think they've realized they're good, but they're just missing something that makes them a real contender.
The only deal I think needs tweaking is the CAR deal. The others are in the realm of possibility I guess.

Is this even close to fair? Constructive criticism please...
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>Constructive criticism? Okay... so....Penguins fans in general, dig this: your prospect pool is not better than any other team's. Your draft picks are worth the least of any other team's. The guys you just traded for are not worth any more than anyone on any other team.
If a team gives you one of its best players, it wants to get back a couple of spare parts with a fistful of Cup rings between them.
You can totally get out of paying full value for a great player like Brassard by giving back a 17 minute defenseman like Ian Cole to give fans in another city hope for their team's rebuild.
Sheary has that kind of value, even though his success was totally and completely a product of just skating to the net with his stick on the ice while Sidney Crosby did everything.
Your first round pick already IS a second round pick in most teams' minds because you are the presumptive champs this year. And it presumably means nothing to you because the player you take at #31 might not show up until Crosby retires.
Did I say that constructively? Should I be more clear? You're being ridiculously stingy with an asset that is meaningless to you. McDonagh plays over 24 minutes a night in his off year. Cole played 17. You're filling a 3rd pair hole with a 1st pair defenseman and asking if you can get out of giving back literally anything of value.</div></div>
This. I think the problem with this deal is that is assumes that A) NYR are desperate to deal McDonagh ASAP and B) No other team is interested in McDonagh.
If this is the best offer PIT could make, then fine, but it's not winning a bidding war for a guy like McDonagh.
A guy like Hunwick has no value to the NYR if they are travelling down the re-tool / rebuild stage.
Escalating the 2nd to a 1st would likely need to occur if PIT wins the East, not the Cup, and frankly, you've probably gotta add Sprong
Sheary
Sprong
2019 2nd escalating to a 2019 1st (you're giving up McDonagh for two years, so I'd want compensation based on if PIT wins the East in either year, so I'd defer to 2019)
That's probably the type of deal that at least brings you into the conversation, but even that might not get it done.

Fair deal for Karlsson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Architect</b></div><div>That is an option, but the only downside is (perhaps a stretch) other GMs might play the "I'll just sign him in the offseason, and not lose any assets" card. It's tricky, can't show any desperation to unload him. I think NYR would go hard after EK if they trade McDonough.</div></div>
I think the only difference is that NSH actually has the assets to go get a guy like Karlsson, where so many teams just don't have the available capital without gutting the big club.

TRADE MANIA > Stanley Cup Rebuild
Oof, man trading Price would be a tough one for MTL fans (ignoring the hockey decision). Can you imagine actually losing PK + Price within five years?
Also, if you're getting a 1st + a second round prospect for Pacioretty, as a Jets fan I would happily pay that price and more (2018 1st + Nic Petan + Jansen Harkens)

A Petan for Domi trade makes sense. Take two guys who need a fresh start + flip 'em.
Don't love losing both Niku + Poolman, especially if the rumblings about Stanley are true. I'd almost rather include Stanley than Niku @ this point.

Fair deal for Karlsson
I actually think this is a reasonable offer. If you're Nashville, why not go for broke this year and make your top 4 elite with a capital E. Frankly, you could even trade him post-playoffs @ the draft if you win the Cup and recoup some of the assets you just lost.

I actually don't see this as a huge overpayment. Giving up a lot, yes, but if a bidding war ensues, I could see this as the price for a top 6 centreman in a shallow market for guys in the middle

Moves the Jets MUST make before the deadline
I think I'd be super happy with above.
However, if mgmt sees the TDL as an opportunity to grab someone with term (Brassard / McDonagh / Hoffman - notwithstanding his NTC / Domi / Hartman) where they think they can cash in on prospects that don't fit into the long term plan, AND it makes this team better over the long term, then I'm on board.

It's always there's no way or thank for the laugh. lol. We are just fans with GM platform, but still, try being more interesting in your comments, and mostly, try not caring too much. Cause guess what,Shaw is a 26 years old top 9 too! Even top 6 with MTL ;) He's got a playoff style of hockey, which some teams would give their 1st for, not Roslovic. Remove the picks, add a 3rd with Shaw and you got a deal.</div></div>
Just saying, there's no way the Jets give up a cost-effective first rounder, plus a 1st round pick for four more years of Andrew Shaw.
Shaw for Petan + 3rd? Sure
Shaw for Brendan Lemieux + 3rd? Sure
Roslovic + 1st? Hard pass.
I just can't see how losing a 1st round pick AND Roslovic for $3.9M of Andrew Shaw fits into the long term plan for the next four years. There are so many new contracts that need signing (Laine + Connor + Morrissey + Trouba + Hellebuyck + Wheeler + Lowry) AND Ehlers new deal kicking in next year. If you pay Shaw $3.9M that likely means losing one of those soon to be RFA's.
If you're retaining 50% of Shaw's salary, MAYBE you get Petan + Lipon + 2nd.

Sorry but that Jets trade is ugly. There's no way the Jets give up a guy playing in their top 9 AND a 1st round pick for Shaw + middling draft picks. Also, I just don't see the Jets being interested in a guy like Shaw to begin with. There's no way the Jets are better after this trade, and frankly, they are probably significantly worse over the next 2-3 years.
