Edmonton Oilers signed Darnell Nurse (8 Years / $9,250,000 AAV)
There are a lot of bad takes here, but let me lay this out.
1. Did Nurse get overpaid, yes, by about $500 K per year
2. Does Nurse deserve to get paid more than Hedman and Josi, no, but the market has changed, switching this up, does Karlsson and Doughty deserve to get more than Nurse, no they do not.
Would you rather have 31 year olds Doughty and Karlsson for 6 more years at $11.0 & $11.5 million x 6 years or 27 year old Nurse for 8 years at $9.25 million?
Also, hasn't both DD & EK already pass by their peak seasons 3 or 4 years ago? When will we see Nurse's? In 3 or 4 years?
Every year he has improved in all facets, he is 6'4", an elite skater, is in phenomenal condition, has an exceptional work ethic and is very durable.
He has been a top level 5 v 5 shot and point producer for several years in the league and he is still improving on both sides of the puck. It is not unreasonable that he continues to improve for the next 3-4 years and then maintains a high level for another 4-5.
The other aspect is that he is a core piece of the leadership group in Edmonton and he may positively influence 29 & 97's decisions when it comes to re-signing down the road, when the Cap should be in the $90-100 million range and his piece of the pie won't be as large.

I think you are a little low on Yamo, I think he'll be in the neighbourhood of $1,7 million AAV.

Apparently Sammy is training in Edm right now and is looking like a beast, according to a comment I read a few weeks ago. He, along with Holloway and Benson are massive potential difference makers next season. If that happens, this team could go supernova, if the goaltending gets sorted out.
Also don't count out Konovalov or Broberg. It will be the most interesting season since Pronger was in town.

If that is the cost to acquire Cernak, hard pass.
The bottom 6 is simply not good dnough. Khaira will not be getting a deal more than $1 million, neither should Ryan.
Yamamoto should not get anything over $2 million, should be closer to 1.5 x 2 yrs.
This defense is indefensible.
If this is the best Holland does this summer, he is clearly working for the Flames.

(EDM/CAR) - Wells for future considerations
Win for Edmonton, Wells was not going to be re-signed.
Holland's buddy Waddell owes him for the Forsberg debacle, which Effed up the Oilers goaltending situation at the beginning of the season. Yet Holland helps him out, yet again, what good dude helping everyone out like that....
Waddell better send at least ond of his 3 7th rounders Holland's way. Wells has been on NHL Scouts radar for a very long time - he definitely has all the physical tools, but he just hasn't developed the mental side.
I could see him possibly putting it all together in 3 or 4 years, but he is clearly a longshot to develop into an NHL goaltender.

It was very interesting to me to listen to Duncan Keith's presser yesterday where he singled out Zack Kassian as a physical force, and therefore a player he respects. Yet, fans consider him to be trash. Experienced GMs, coaches a ND players have a different (better) understanding of fans of a players impact.
So it is curious to me that a 5th rounder, who has maybe a 2% chance of becoming a NHL player, and a 3rd round pick, which is around 3 or 4% has more value in your eyes than a player who was just singled out by a future Hall of Famer who has played against him about 30 times in his career.
What do you know that he doesn't and why do you think the Pro Scouts and GM think any different?

Which Edmonton fans? Because I guarantee you every gm, & wild fans view dumba way better than caleb bear whose not close to dumba

Wild very easily say no, & thus deal is beyond horrible, & totally one sided

2) a team loses one player ; not two
3) Wild aren't taking on that horrible contract, cap dump player who will never play on wild.
4) Edmonton pays to get rid of Zack K. Wild don't need it want a 3rd liner Winger who wild have better of, and cheaper off
5) only good thing you offered is Ryan McCleod, and that isn't even enough to get dumba</div></div>
What is unfair is reading "real" in any comment. This is not real, this is an idea, in your opinion it is an unfair idea.
Cool; you are totally entitled to your opinion, but please know that it is easier to get someone to see your viewpoint when your word choice is less antagonistic. And know that I did not post this idea to personally insult you.
The world is full of possibilities and this my attempt at exploring them. Hopefully you won't be very disappointed with reality's version.
You are also massively under-rating Ethan Bear, who most Oiler fans would rate higher than Dumba.

Trade makes sense because six goalies under contract for 5 spots just isn't enough, lol</div></div>
So what you're saying is there's either going to be a trade or two, or Ottawa is going to have 2 AHL teams in the AHL, instead of 1 in the AHL and the other in the NHL, like they've had for the past few seasons 😊.
Seriously though, that is far too many minor league goalies. Good thing Hoglander was dropped. But for the quantity, there isn't a lot of NHL-quality tenders in the org today.
It is mind boggling how many good goalies have been there. Ottawa has been the envy of the NHL when it comes to young guardien de but, off the top of my head, flash in the pan Hammond, Elliott, Lehner, Bishop and the latest in Driedger (I've probably missed a few names) , so it is possible 3 of these and even Hoglander are NHL stars 3 or 4 years down the road.
I am honestly curious if you are happy with the goaltending going into next season?

That is a pretty impressive list of "who the hell are these guys". I clearly see why you'd have issue with a cheap, veteran, solid, experienced NHL goaltender, when he would have to overcome this intimidating list of inexpensive, inexperienced not-NHL goaltenders. I completely understand why you'd not want your team to give away a valuable 7th pick when they could spend it on another Goaltender to add to this intimating list, instead of a bonafide NHL Goaltender, can't expect Sens management to do something that the management of a team like Tampa Bay would do.

Boston has enough bottom 6 guys in the system and Maximov is just that. Thats assuming he even makes the NHL. So really in the end your asking Boston to trade a kid whose had success (but had a down year) in the NHL, for a kid who maybe makes the NHL and a 2nd round pick.

How does it not? It clears cap space and makes room on the roster. It's not like DeBrusk is seen as part of the solution in the HC"s eyes. And it is not out of the question that Maksimov could not make the team, his is a good prospect with a killer shot and 2-way ability and can play either Wing. I like the player a bunch, seen him play live a few times.
I personally wouldn't do this deal, but I suspect we will see some version of this trade go down this summer.

And there's a massive gamble for the Blues here. Yamamoto is tiny as hell and regressed hard in his age 22 season despite riding shotgun with Drai most of the year. Kosko is not needed, a pure cap dump here. Safin is a throw-in that does have some tools, but he's already 22 and impressing no one. If the Blues take all that and Tank returns to normal service, it would be a friggin disaster. That's a major risk and a half.</div></div>
There is a greater risk that Tarasenko never returns to his old level, happens more often than not. Yamamoto is still an effective very young player even not scoring. He will get back on track, you cannot say the same for a player who turns 30 this season and has only played 27% of his teams games over the past 2 seasons. He is no longer a $7 ($9.5 actually) million player in the eyes of his GM and owners.

Geno was waived because there were no open roster spots for him. This coming season there is. He scored at a 31-point pace this season with limited icetime, there is no reason to think he won't improve on that with regular play.
Marody has never scored a single point in the NHL and he has injury problems that make his future even more questionable than Geno's.
Svechnikov will very likely be kept and given a full season to prove himself.</div></div>
I did not watch any Wings games. The storyline is that Gino did not get an opportunity, same as it ever was and always likely will be. Coaches have biases and it appears that Gino cannot overcome this.
Marody was concussed in a playoff game during his rookie year in the AHL. He was not the same player the following season. This past season he led the league in goal scoring, mostly 1 shot goals, which is the hardest thing to do (I watched all but 3 games of his). He has high end skill, but has average skating, no other injuries but what I mentioned.
Gino got his opportunities over the years and didn't capitalize and the GMs who acquired them no longer run the show. Both players appear to need fresh starts.

Most Oilers fans would say the same thing about Tarasenko and this deal. Yamamoto is a huge fan favourite and Koskinen is a decent backup.
The Oilers would be taking a big gamble with this sort of deal, the Blues, not so much. There is a reason they are looking at moving him and when they do, be prepared to be underwhelmed.

What does it mean if Marody is the top AHL goal scorer, coming off a lost season due to post conclusion issues. In his first season he killed ii, which is no small feat for most NCAA players.
He is only a career AHLer if he gets no opportunity. As a right shot scorer, Yzerman should be interested.
Seems like Marody isn't in the plans in E-town. Both players need a fresh start, but don't mistake Marody for a player that has zero value. I remember all the DRW fans scoffing at trade proposals on here that sent Gagner to Motown, seems like he has a bit of value to Wings fans on here now.
The point is, don't discount any player if you know nothing about them. Svechnikov didn't get claimed while on waivers this season, so his value is pretty low across the league, but his drafting GM will have time for "his guy". Marody is a proven scorer at the AHL level, the same cannot be said for ES.
