<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>delete</b></div><div>then why are reports out there that the sens want Tanev? Weegar isnt old and signed for awhile, the sens have all there dmen on the left side and need a righty.</div></div>
The only way a Tanev deal makes sense is if it came with a two year extension and it would be at a far less AAV than $6.5 million.
But I honestly don't know why the Senators would be looking at Tanev, moving assets for him seems like an absurd use of capital for a team that will not come close to making the playoffs this year.

I love everything about Weegers game. He would be a great addition for any team... except Ottawa.
The last 3 maybe even 4 years of his contract are not going to be good value. That will also likely be the window Ottawa becomes relevant (although who knows if that's even true anymore) and they would likely be using assets to dump off the remaining years on his contract.
This would be short term gain, for a whole lot of long term pain... and Ottawa has to be playing the long game with this roster and coaching staff!

Honest question... Did you mean to put the first round pick going from Vancouver to Ottawa?
I'm still not sure it would be considered by Ottawa, but was this just a mistake?

This is a weird way of thinking of a players value.
So Wolf isn't worth much because he's the third best Goalie on the Flames and there are two better goalies on the roster? Sounds absurd doesn't it?
Evaluating players on where they are currently playing in their teams organizational chart is not how it works.

DeBrincat on the reduced QO thoughts
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensonfire</b></div><div>Ottawa should accept this trade IMO.
However, given that DJ Smith and Jack Capuano are coaching our team, I think the folks running our team would be more interested in someone like Matt Martin instead of Wahlstrom.
And unlike some people on here, I think Pageau is worth the contract he's signed to.</div></div>
I don’t think many people don’t think he’s not worth his contract. I think he’s not worth his contract to Ottawa. If there is one position that is perfectly slotted on their roster, it’s center. Stutzle, Noris, Pinto, Kastalic. And all are perfect for their line role both in play and salary.
So where do you play Pageau? His salary isn’t worth it if he is playing on the wing on the third or fourth line.
That’s the issue for Ottawa… I think Pageau to a third team in need of a center, with those assets to Ottawa instead makes way more sense.

Very curious how the Cat trade pans out</div></div>
I think you misunderstood the report. It wasn't that Dorian couldn't get a first this year... it was that he wasn't looking necessarily for a first this year. Which means that he's likely looking for roster players that can play for the team right now, not down the road.

Goaltending Depth With Forsberg and Talbot Out
If they could have had him for free and chose not to, why would they give up a draft pick?
If a trade happens after a player passes through waivers, it usually means a contract exchange to balance the number of contracts in an organization… not draft capital.

One for one
Not that I agree with you... but let's go with your numbers.
If a team signs DeBrincat to an 8 year deal after this season, all 8 years would be in YOUR prime forward years. But a team acquiring Weeger is already agreeing to four years outside YOUR prime years for a defensemen.
So then wouldn't, just based off contract alone DeBrincat be more valuable than Weeger?

Re-build
So I keep seeing different versions of Tyler Myers to Ottawa... And here is why they don't make sense.
The top 6 is set in Ottawa for a few years secondary scoring is easier to come by and may actually be in the system. So really defence is the issue to move the team forward.
Chabot and Zub are a solid first pairing. Sanderson is set on the second pairing. And Bernard-Docker is likely set next year as the third pairing RD. The Third pairing LD is either Brannstrom or a fill in. So that leaves only the 2nd pairing RD.
The issue is that Zaitsev isn't the solution but neither is Myers. So why would Ottawa give up assets that don't solve that problem.
In fact, Ottawa would be way more inclined to give up those assets to not have Zaitsev OR Myers to deal with next year.

The problem for Ottawa now (and I can’t believe I’m even saying this after the last few years) is that they are in a place where cap numbers are more important than actual dollars.
My guess is they would be more likely to give you the 2nd round pick and just not take back Meyers at all… which I know, is not at all what you are hoping for from a Vancouver perspective.
So I’m just not sure there is a match with these players and teams.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensonfire</b></div><div>In this trade, Vancouver is also swapping Myers with retention for Zaitsev.</div></div>
The problem with this string of trades is that… if CBJ was willing to take Zaitsev off Vancouver for a 6th, Ottawa would just do that and not absorb the Myers’s contract that will hurt them way more than the Zaitsev contract.

Chychrun is great but isn’t the right fit for what Ottawa needs (LD, Health, etc.)
So I would be surprised if they would even do 1 for 1 with Pinto because he actually fits a very current need right now.

To be fair, there was also a lot of “Josh Anderson and Dvorak for the first” before we saw what the actual return was for the 7OA pick.
I imagine the same will happen with the Murray to Leafs trade in f it even happens.

It seems to have been missed along the way….
The Sens were not trading their first round pick to get rid of Murray. They were trading down 9 spots to get rid of Murray.
Big difference.

Giroux comes home
This is false logic though.
Browns ice time was higher because he kills penalties and JP doesn’t. Which adds to Browns value.
You also can’t compare point totals because JP played with McDavid and Connor Brown played with third line players.
I get it, JP was drafted high and it’s hard to sell off a high pick… but Connor Brown is by far and away the more valuable player out of the two.

So if Ottawa is looking to trade their first round pick for immediate help… I can’t imagine that they’d consider trading their most productive center for another first round pick.
This seems to be the opposite direction they would be going.

SKINNER REINHART OUT
If you tie skinner to Reinhart in a trade it renders his value at zero.
You will get nothing of significance for him. You would be giving him up in order for a team to take on the Skinner contract (which may be the worst in the NHL).

I think Sabres fans are going to be disappointed a little bit with the initial return they get for Eichel. But you have to hope that the scouting department picks the right pieces that they do get and they make the long term impact that the organization truly needs.
I would say this is more like the package I would hope for from Rangers:
One of Kappo/LaFraniere
Braden Schneider

I’m not saying I’d do this, but it’s being reported that this is the level of ask that Buffalo is asking for.
Seems like a lot for a disgruntled player coming off a significant injury.
