Which mean that in case of Dubois, Winnipeg could still offer him an offer to keep is rfa status and is signing right but he could refuse to sign it and wait at free agent market and talk with other team to try get what he want or where he want.

The option for Winnipeg would be A: do the same deal and keep Dubois one more year but couldn't be able to trade him for one years time or B: take the compensation

Exactly. Habs trade for his negotiation rights, and nothing more. Otherwise wait until he is UFA. This will be better timing anyways for the exit of the rebuild. Paying premium fro PLD right now would be foolish, and a waste of assets. I trust Hughes to make the right move looking and contact amount and salary cap space. Unfortunately Winnipeg will have a hard time finding value for him elsewhere. There will have to be a Cowboy GM on his last leg hoping PLD pushes his team into the playoffs etc.
