Get paid now, then sign a long deal in ARZ for a little less and make them relevant. Still won't win a cup with the Leafs

Avs fans have got to be really pleased with the MacKinnon contract after seeing this.
Matt got Half the term and more money and he's an arguably worse player.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pens3lieve</b></div><div>I’d love to see a study on teams that win cups and how many players they have that take up a high % of the cap and I’d bet the more balanced teams that don’t have mega contracts are more likely to win… I’m immediately thinking of Tampa bay, Pittsburgh, Boston, Carolina, now even New Jersey should be great for awhile… I think it’s great when players can sacrifice some $ so the team can build out depth and acquire other good players…
I’m not even a leaf’s hater, I’m from Toronto, but I just don’t see cups in the leafs future with tavares at 11, AM at 13.25, Marner at 10.9 till his raise, Reilly at 7.5, and Nylander at around 9-10 probably… even with the cap going up any good player they get will want maximum $ unless they’re 37… way too too heavy and I don’t like treliving as the guy to find the bargain contracts that will perform… unpopular opinion for sure but I’ll stand by it until I’m proven wrong</div></div>
Yup agreed. Leafs fans are going to have to wait quite awhile for a cup at this point. The high risk of having large contracts with high $$ like this is very scary as if 1 player gets in a career ending injury, then thats a huge whole and they become cap strapped very fast

I was thinking the same thing :) I don't think this is a bad contract for Matthews/Toronto, but I might be inclined to take 2 Hagels...

underrated moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Joblow</b></div><div>Monahan is still a very good players, ? Mark is can he stay healthy. If he can play a complete schedule 25 goals is a realistic 55-60 points. That was is pace last season before season ending injury. He was pretty good at start for the 1/4 season he played. Any team that contains for Stanley Cup would like to have a Monahan ( healthy) in is team. Especially at under 2 millions. It’s not unreasonable to expect a that kind of return. First round pick are so much overrated. A team that will trade for Monahan would be a contending one, so they would assume they are giving a 20-32nd pick. Draft is just like a lottery, first 10 picks are usually have better odds to have a 200 games career. 10th-20th this number drops drastically and after 20th the odds of drafting a impact players are the same that there in casino game. The point of rebuilding team is to acquire more lottery ticket. At that point if Sakic believes that Monahan is the pieces he need he will gave away a late first. Colorado don’t need a players who will help them in 3-4-5 years maybe. You have a team that are supposed to win each year and knowing about Mackinnon desire for the win you know that your team is competing. The lost of Landeskog cross with Kadri departure really left a hole. Depth is so much important for playoffs team. You saw it with Tampa also, you must maximize the windows. Makar and Rantanen will get paid and both will have a major raise.</div></div>
This was really challenging to follow. Monahan hasn’t had a 25 goal or 60 point season since 2018-2019. Monahan’s trade value is not a 1st. Thanks.

START OF SEASON
If Myers could just refrain from trying to join the rush and going to net, Hughes might be able to make him look decent. At least we know he can skate 20+ minutes a night and stay healthy.

This team slowly comin
Hard to say if Rathbone makes the team this season. If there’s someone really clawing his way to a spot on the team it’s Brisebois. He seemed to have really played a good role when he had the time up. Another thing to throw in there is Aman>Dries. I think there’s some solid potential for this lineup. Especially with some depth guys like Di Giuseppe and Dries.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>seanrushton</b></div><div>No, I'm just saying Aho is way better defensive forward than Caufield is rn and it would allow Draisaitl to move back to the wing. He isn't shutting down every top line because Jordan Staal is there to do it and his line is much better suited to do it. I get that he's young and younger players tend to be bad defensively and especially on bad teams but at this point, Aho is much better defensively than Caufield.</div></div>
You need goals to win games🤷♂️, thats why you build a good D with a stable goalie.
