Why are we paying three first round picks for Schmaltz? He's a 2C that's never been over 60 points. For that price I'd rather go for Mitts or Zegras

Honestly, if NJD are interested in Allen, he could be had for cheap IMO. I don't think the sticking point is value for the Habs, its not retaining. I think they're not entertaining any trade where they retain, solely cause they need the retention spots for other players. And obviously as others have mentioned, Habs aren't moving Monty. He's the guy going forward in MTL now.

It will have to be a massive package to get Zegras. How they do it without giving up their top prospects I have no idea but Verbeek is an old school guy and will be looking to fill out his roster with players like that

Slafkovsky wasn’t ready last year & management kept him up all year. Can’t see them sending him down now</div></div>
I believe hughes can do anything after he traded Hoffman with no retention so I think he trades Armia that is the obvious move

my line would be
Caufield suzuki and Dach
Slafkovsky Monahan Gallagher
RHP Newhook Anderson
pezzetta and Evans Ylonen
Armia this way i would see what newhook could do as a center but when Dvorak comes back i would put newhook in the top 6 on the wing... also Dach was awesome on the top line and as long as we have Monahan Dach can stay on the top line

It's not about your preference of who should play up short term, it's about asset management. You don't lose Ylonen on waivers just to put a very slighly better team on the ice for a couple of games.
RHP is the one sent down because he is waivers exempted and obviously the 1st one called up when an injury happen.

This is Gallagher 2.0, as soon as he'll get injured once he won't be worth it and two-three years from now people will complain. Only W is that it's front loaded so the buyout will be easy.

I dunno about the others, but the Preds one is real. And I’m glad it got turned down. Don’t get me wrong, Reinbacher (or whoever else we could have taken) would be great, but I think i’d rather have Wood, Askarov, and Molendyk

You wouldn't believe how many aggregator sites there are spewing random Hab related trade offers and speculation right now on the internet. I guarantee their ideas contribute to at least half the wacky trade proposals you see on here.
The worst part is, those sites/posts are constructed in a way that the source is often just a random blogger/social media personality opinion but the title will be written in a way that at first glance sounds like it is a <em>confirmed </em>rumour. The viewer, 85% of the time doesn't get to the end of the article to see the actual source is just some blogger and voila...... rumour of KH refusing Anderson for Nemec and a 1st is born and ppl just eat it up. Its only natural someone will bring it to CF to test out its validity.
When the source is NOT just a random blogger/Twitter personality, etc, and is an actual journalist, it often comes from a recently posted article of theirs in which they are simply implying or offering suggestions. The aggregator site then comes in regurgitates what was said and phrases it like "X team is interested in acquiring Jake Evans!" When in fact the journalist simply pointed out that Edmonton may be looking to add a depth centerman and MTL may be looking to move out one of theirs. Boom! Evans to Edm E4!..... :rolleyes
Then throw on the fact that "trolling" exists and you get ppl, who probably don't actually think Anderson for Nemec+1st is fair or realistic, but will argue its merits just for the "lolz". The simple fact that you put the effort into writing this post up is stoking the fire of the thing you're probably annoyed with to begin with.

I'm laughing at the lack of love for this guy just because he's not flashy.
He's reliable and produce points at the NHL level on limited icetime. What more do you want?
He 100% part of this team's future and won't be put on waivers this year.
I see him as the new Lehkonen, with a better slapshot but a bit less grit along the boards.
As for the contract, he deserved more (if you compare him to RHP's new contract) but had no negociation power.
KH kept it a low and short term contract to avoid the need to put Price on LTIR before the start of the season and thus avoid bonuses penalties. See: https://fr.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/4436071
With a steady pace, expect him to double his pay in 2024.

Guy quietly was just shy of a half PPG this year while playing bottom six minutes, pretty sure the kid wanted a one way deal and the team a two year (First year two way, second year one way) so they cut down the middle. People are low on him because of all our new toys in Laval but he's a bottom six guy in the making that can contribute on the PP with his great wrister and on the PK with his Byron-esque speed. Nothing flashy but he's the kind of guy that can give your bottom six additional scoring while being great on PK.

The last RFA to sign, and for league minimum. He has enough raw tools to be a decent NHLer but hasn't played consistently enough to solidify his spot. This will be an important year for him to show that he can put it all together.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheRealisticGuy</b></div><div>Who goes now ?
Someone not healthy ?</div></div>
The team currently has a 20 player roster that costs about 82.6M.
Pinto is a 10.2(c) RFA. He has no real leverage. His only leverage is to sit out, which would be idiotic. He has a single pro season under his belt due to past injuries. It isn't outlandish for a 10.2(c) RFA to sign for very little, it just doesn't happen often because teams value buying up term as early as possible.
Pinto could sign 1 year at about 900k, and the Senators would be compliant with a 21 player roster. Sokolov will get 775k-975k if he signs. If he makes the roster, they send down whoever he beat out, and they become compliant.
<strong>There are four possible scenarios:</strong>
1 - The team intends to use a 21 player roster to start the season, Pinto signs a 1 year deal.
2 - Norris or Forsberg have had a set back, will start on LTIR. (Seems unlikely given that this Tarasenko thing has been in the works for a while)
3 - Batherson is suspended due to the Hockey Canada stuff, and it will come out tomorrow (Friday is when bad news gets dropped). Dorion likely knew this was coming, but couldn't sign his replacement until it was a sure thing because he would not be able to get the team into compliance if something changed at the last hour.
4 - The Senators intend to trade someone. No one really makes sense. Maybe flip Brannstrom for a cheaper veteran pro who can fit the bottom pair better. They were tied to Dumba all last season, and he is still a free agent. Maybe Brannstrom (2M AAV) somewhere for a 4th to 7th round pick, and then Dumba signed to a 1 year contract in the low 1M range. That would free up enough to dress a 22nd player.

He is a 10.2 RFA meaning he has not played enough professional games to attain group 2 RFA status due to injury and late addition in his first year. Therefore cannot be offer sheeted.

Montreal Canadiens in 2025-2026
I agree chances are high Gallagher will be LTIRetired, but if not, depending on his production, he could very well be bought out if Habs are going for it and are competitive in the playoffs.
With 1 year left, Price’s contract could be moved to a bottom feeder needing to get to the cap floor, or a contender looking to utilize LTIR.
You also have to imagine that not all prospects are going to hit AND/OR some of the current youth on the team won’t “improve”. So I’d have to guess there will be veteran players signed or acquired via trade sprinkled on the roster.
Goaltending NEEDS to be better by 2025-26. Monty has improved, but I still don’t buy into him becoming a clear cut 1A starting G, and none of the goalie prospects we have really stand out *yet* to be confident they can split the net with him either.
So for this lineup, my guesses would be guys like Ylonen, Gallagher, Evans at forward and 1 or 2 of the current D squad (not necessarily Matheson) won’t be with the team anymore, and a vet goalie will signed or acquired via trade to complement Monty or be the designated “#1 goalie”.
Wouldn’t surprise me either if Anderson is traded at some point too, with the salary cap increasing exponentially over the next few years, his cap hit will become more and more digestible for teams. Although I’d still prefer keeping him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheRealisticGuy</b></div><div>I also think Gallagher will be LTIRed in 2025-2026.
I like Kapanen a lot, but I think it’s too earlier for him
Kidney … maybe he’ll be in Laval top 6 in two years
Rohrer will be in his first or second season with Laval, not expecting him any time soon to fight for a roster spot
Mesar needs time, but he has talent. Still too early for him IMO
I don’t think Davidson signs an ELC after this year. It will depend how it goes in the AHL
Roy on the other hand could be ready, replacing Gallagher
I expect Montembeault to sign a two years deal after this season around 3M, to know what we have in him. I think he is dog****, but he played decent halfway through the season</div></div>
If the Leafs can magically place Murray on LTIR when he was perfectly healthy on the bench in the playoffs, I'm sure Gallagher will hang them up in a few years. Carey Price probably is holding his spot for team softball in Kelowna.
I chuckled when Grant McCagg had ranked Kapanen in front of Beck and of course is Mailloux at number 1! Controversy creates cash..
I have no idea what Slafkovsky will be! I have never been a fan. His hockey awareness wasn't there last season. He's slimed down quite a bit *supposedly* so hopefully his on ice vision/instincts can improve otherwise he will have a short career.
Heineman might be the most interesting prospect coming up besides Sean Farrell when it comes to floor onwards to a ceiling. Both could be top6 mainstays or fizzle out completely. I, admittedly, didnt watch any of developmental camp but what I heard was that Luke Tuch looked legit.
They have some decisions on defence. Not sold on Barron looks like a decent puck mover with some defensive prowess but not sure he will be a solution in the long run. They are probably going to try Guhle on the right this season. Guhle/Matheson might be a pair going forward. Matheson probably is dealt in one of the next 2 trade deadlines. I'm sure that was an idea when Hughes traded for Mike but he's been so good as 'the guy' in Montreal tho he wont be moved unless the price is big and it should be if he repeats his last season. Hard to see Hutson/Reinbacher not being a pair going forward. They had good chemistry at camp and liked playing with each other. Their attributes blend well together.
Fowler in nets is an intriguing potential solution.
The Habs absolutely need a top3 pick this year and a high end forward like Celebrini or Ivan Demidov otherwise i dont see them competing with Buffalo or Ottawa. They need some luck here in the lottery to be anything close to a contender in the coming years.
I heard Armia has been trashing the Habs over in Finland. Would be nice to get a mutual contract termination there.

3 mid 1st rounders, a recent top 10 pick in Gelinas, Jimmy Carson, who was the 2nd overall pick and just scored 55 goals + 50 assists as a 19 year old, and 15 million in cash
