I don't think his play for Vancouver is third line calibre compared to Toronto's blue line squad this year.

Solid adds on the Blue line, but I would be surprised if Edmundson took that little or Vegas gave away a top for D-man for future prospects/picks.

Cap Hits from Evolving Hockey
To act like a reasonable person in comments, which is hard to do for many on this site, I would say that the free agent signings are strong except the goalie gamble. If Woll isn't healthy, and he has never been healthy for long as a Leaf, then Lank is a big step down, maybe even from Martin Jones.
My main concern is trading Marner for Clayton Keller to be a third liner. He is expensive for a 30 goal scorer, and means far less Marner cap relief that might be spent on Brossoit or Stolarz as tandem partner with Woll.

Running in back
I guess if the goalie tandem is working at joint-Vesna level, they might do something more...
Seems like too much for Domi and Dumba did not impress in either venue this year.

I could live with this lineup, but I'm sure the Pred-bros will not like that trade.

PLD for Marner who gives more
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Leafs can certainly live with 11m Marner for one season, then taking on PLD for seven years.
There is absolutely no logic that the Leafs have to trade Marner. UFAs come and go every year without compensation.</div></div>
Why would they gamble on PLD turning it around?

Thanks so much for getting me caught up on the basics. So why would Toronto downgrade from Nylander to PLD?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ste_Catherine_Street</b></div><div>Don't agree. Marner has full NMC and his contract is up. Leafs won't get fair value for MM, who is also overpaid to boot.
I agree Kings would have to add, but Leafs won't get someone like Mccann for MM</div></div>
Won't get fair value, sure, but why take someone who undercuts so much of the cap relief from moving Marner? Getting a well-valued 5 mil player for Marner would be a win, not an 8.5-mil guy who has played like a sub-2 mil guy? Leafs have 15-goal scorers already,

Oh, so he's behind Sider and McAvoy, who are also not free agents this summer. What a piece of garbage. League min.

Enlighten us with more than a half-sentence, please. Seems like defense and goaltending, with term, which Treliving will need to sign anyway, would be a plus compared to more of the regular season Marner Magic.
As per our mutual friend hal, Marner waiving would be the biggest question mark.

Berube Takes Over
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tjm220</b></div><div>At that price and half retained Buffalo would have to think about that trade. I have my doubts that Matt Roy would sign anywhere for only $5 million, and teams will definitely offer him more.</div></div>
I think you're on to something. Maybe sign a center for less than $7 mil, like Monahan instead of Lindholm and offer Roy more. OR, sign someone like Chandler instead of Lindholm get then get DeMelo for $5mil as right shot D.

Love the general scenario. I would probably try to get Brossoit in goal for that money, and worry that Lindholm's best years may be behind him (but maybe it's just a bad fit in Vancouver)>
Overall, a solid new direction if they could get those types of deals on the corpse four trades.

Re-Tool for 2024-2025
Solid choices overall, especially with the beefed up blue-line. Curious about your lack of interest in Dewar, given that his is an RFA and could be a better version of Holmberg as you have him deployed.
My only note would be that I would not expect Monahan to come so cheap, and Roy is a UFA, so unless you want to sign him for 8 years, not much that LA trading him in May/June would do. Also, if that is too little for Parayko, you're going to get a virtual earful from Blues' Clues Boys.

Solid blue line and goalie upgrade. If Jets self-destruct as they're on track to after games 2-3, Brossoit should be interested in a change...

I like it, although I'm not sure Bert will be worth it unless he has another 5 goal/10 point first round, and that extra money could go to a better goalie and a still decent winger.
