The one thing I would change is Kampf, he's been...not good recently, and he's not exactly the economic option either. Swap him for Geekie ($2M) and I think you're pretty set without changing anything significant financially.</div></div>
Thanks for that constructive comment!!
I don't think it would be a good thing for all-stars, because so many star players would have to be left over (Pastrnak, Marner, Point, Tkachuk, Suzuki, Stutzle, Larkin, Debrincat, etc). People want to see Pastrnak at these skiils evet, not Frederic

At first I had Zetterlund/Hague instead of Sharangovich/Hutton..... so I needed to include a player from the flames.
I forgot to switch Tanev when I insert Sharangovich. But honestly a more defensive player to be pair with Theodore is not a bad thing

People were yelled at when proposing Monahan for a first and this is exactly what happend.
1st + best prospect is too much, I did not see much of these but it's effectively delusional.
I did some Monahan for 1st + B prospect and everytime I needed to defend myself because there where always a lot of guys yelling this would never happend. ''Gm laugh at this and hang out''. Where are those guys today?

No matter if he really is worth or not, fact is that everyone that did Monahan vs 1st proposals where right, and everyone complaining about it were wrong.
It is always the same, players are overpaid at TDL, and much capfriendly users don't understand that.

This is what Avs fans see with all these Monahan nonsense trades
Johansen's salary is twice as high as Monahan's salary. Advantage Monahan.
Monahan is 29yo and has 0.66ppg, Johansen is two years older and has 0.38ppg. Advantage Monahan.
Habs's first will be top 10 while avs's first will be a late one. Reinbacher is a way better prospect than any avs prospect.
This trade is not comparable to any sensed Monahan trade proposal.
GMs do overpay at TDLs, there are many many many exemples over the last few years. (Jeannot, Hagel, Copp, Chiarot)
The players's value are especially higher when they hit low on salary cap.
A healthy Monahan that can drive a 2nd line, PP threat, strong on faceoff, low salary will bring something in the range of a late first or 2nd + prospect.

Leafs Need to Rely on the kids
Having 46.65m on four players (53% of the salary mass) only allows you 1.85m average for the other 18 players. So leafs kind of have no other choice than roster a lot of minimum salary / rookie players.
Leafs fans dreams are to be able to sign/get every next NHL superstars for minimum salary contracts, or G-O-O-D goalie for less than one million lol :tearsofjoy:

Not much TDL options
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nick_SUCCzuki</b></div><div>We should still trade him. We have Beck coming in the next 1-2 years and Dvo will be our third line center next year (where he hopefully plays good enough to trade him)</div></div>
Monahan signed for 2-3 years is the perfect stop gap before Beck is NHL ready.
Dvorak is injury prone, he's proven we cannot rely on him to play all season long. Habs need center depht so they don't have to play AHLers (Stephens)
I think Dvorak will be managed the same way as Armia. Dvo don't have much value, we won't be able to trade him for something interresting and he's not good enough to secure a top 9 spot over a young player (Ylonen - RHP - Evans). Monahan does. I'd like Dvo to be 13th - 14th forward, and I wouldn't complain to have him to waivers at some point.

The top 10 most valuable assets in the NHL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>Seider with just 1 year of ELC value. And I think he's going to get a massive deal, while not being a true norris caliber dman imo
Again same with pettersson. 1 year of 7 mill and then he's probably going to get 12+. Contract in the realm of Mcdavid, Mack, Matthews while imo being in the tier of Barkov, Point, Stutzle, Crosby, Drai.
the 10th spot was very tough to pick. Big drop off in value imo after 8
Above that you have your top 3 dmen imo (heiskenan in the discussion and tbh he might take that 10th spot)
Your true top 4Cs in hockey.
and the best prospect since McDavid
Stutzle is in the pettersson barkov crosby point tier but has much cheaper term and is younger</div></div>
I can honestly understand your reasoning, but I must say I don't agree.
Let's start with Pettersson's case. He's actually 4m cheaper than Matthews, both with one year left to their contract. Advantage Pettersson here.
They both will get raised, Matthews should still get a higher paycheck because of his status. Pettersson is better than Matthews in the last two years even if Matthews plays with much better wingers, I would give here another point in favour of Pettersson.
As for Seider, I totally relate with your comment. I agree it would also be very hard to choose between him and Heiskanen/Dahlin. Still, it's hard for me to give that top 10 spot to a guy not named Bedard that has only 17gp, he's still unproven. I would have McTavish ahead of Carlsson too.
I wouldn't say qualify ''valuability'' of Quinn Hughes with his Norris nominations. Norris trophy is now ''most points for defenseman trophy'' instead of ''most valuable defenseman''. For sure, Quinn is a point machine, a PP machine, he is a real offensive threat, but I don't see him being a better complete defenseman than Dahlin/Seider/Miro. Not sure I'd say he's more valuable.

To all sens fans trading Kubalik to Montreal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xspyrit</b></div><div>lol I was wondering what we would find in here...
Problem you have is :
- Kubalik >>> Armia, and he has 1 year at 2.5 AAV vs 2 years at 3.4 AAV for Armia. It's self explanatory
- Ottawa doesn't have cap space, they wouldn't be able to make that trade even if they wanted. Montreal can afford to add Kubalik.
- Armia is a pure cap dump, as evidenced by him being in the AHL when guys like Pearson and Pezzetta on the NHL roster. Kubalik is NOT a cap dump, he is easily worth his 2.5 AAV
- Montreal is rebuilding, getting a player for cheap then sell him for more at the deadline is exactly the type of moves rebuilding teams look to do
Unless you're connected to Habs management, how would you know that? Or maybe you were talking about Habs fans?
Kubalik 45 pts would have been 2nd on the Habs last season, and would have outpaced most forwards too.
That's not how the world works. Teams serve their own interest. Any team who has a NEED for a scoring middle-six winger or any team wanting to make a PROFIT at the deadline would look to acquire Kubalik.</div></div>
Rebuilding teams aren't paying any asset for rentals, they keep their assets for drafting or targetting young cost controlled players that fit their time frame. Rebuilding teams give ice time to their young players without caring about if they do some mistakes, they don't need rentals.
Montreal don't have any NEED for top 6 / top 9 players. They don't especially need anything because of Dach injury, maybe if Kubalik played center but he don't.
Ottawa NEED a lot more getting rid of Kubalik than MTL needs to acquire a 28yo rental (no matter how good). Based on that Ottawa urgency, they would have to pay something significant for habs to consider this trade. It's not because Montreal has cap space that they are likely to help Ottawa for free. A rental would cost Montreal developping time for their young players, at this point fans would prefer seing Joshua Roy in the NHL than any rental.
