Yeah, press conferences are known for spreading the one and only truth ... for example Taylor Hall who said it's not about money it's about contending for the cup and then signing a 1y 8m deal with Buffalo ...

Flyers decline. They have no need for another offensive-minded D-man especially not with that contract.

Flyers 2021 - part 2 - trading
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>slapshot723</b></div><div>Interesting for NYI. It helps our cap situation, but doesn't make us a better team. Also, even if Patrick was healthy, we don't have room for him with our center depth.</div></div>
Yeah, i see your point ... but i'm quite confident that Patrick can play at wing too. Moreover my proposals to the Islanders and Devils are kind of a 3-way-trade. The corner points are imo: NYI want cap space, Flyers want Mayfield; Devils want assets while eating up cap. Therefore the other pieces are changeable. For example u swap Clutterbuck with Ladd: NYI will have to pay the main load to move his contract to the Devils whereas the Flyers only pay a small amount to the Devils and a small asset to NYI. All negotiable ...

What would it cost to move JVR
JVR to Toronto? Why? Maple Leafs have no cap space for their own UFA's/RFA's. Moreover they have no trade assets that would help Philadelphia.
The facts are:
- JVR will have a hard time to find spot in the Flyers roster
- Flyers will have to pay to move him
So why don't keep him for 1 more year and then pay Seattle to take him in expansion draft?

Philly
Don't know where to start ... minor issues like: Vorobyov is signed in KHL, Patrick + Myers will get more money and Philly will have to add in the JVR + Ghost trades? No time for details because imo there are some major issues:
Your 7th d-man will be lucky if he can continue his career in the AHL next season (due to injuries he played 28 games (NHL+AHL combined) in the last 3 years and imo next injury is career ending). That isn't necessarily a major problem. But u send Sanheim to the Flames, replacing him with Hagg at 2nd pair and pushing Zamula into the NHL. So maybe (a lot of "maybe" imo) Zamula is NHL ready, u have the "problem" that hagg is a 3rd pairing d-man and Zamula has to replace Sanheim. That "problem" would be acceptable if u can pair him with a strong partner on right side. But u decide to sign Shattenkirk (at 4.5mio for 4y). So let me get it ... we move out Ghost (27yo 4.5mio AAV) in a trade where we have to pay to bring in Shattenkirk (the same type of player except he's 4 years older and a right-hand shot) at the same AAV? i don't get it ... maybe this defensive downgrade would be acceptable if we can improve our forward group ... but no, u decide to pay heavily for Gaudreau. Don't get me wrong ... Gaudreau is (was?) a superb player (maybe no franchise guy) but imo a kind of player we already have at the same position (G).
So let me sum up: u're paying picks + prospects to downgrade the d-core without upgrading the forward group for 4mio cap space? ... i don't like ...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>buffbry</b></div><div>I get it but the 2nd round picks are to give you salary cap relief. You can use it elsewhere and better your team. Flyers are close and have a ton of talent in the prospect world right now. 2 2nds hurt then 0% and help the signs 100%. Ghost hurts the flyers on the ice and with the cap. I ret wouldn't give anything of significance to take his contract. This is why I'm barely offering anything. I'm also ok with just walking away from the deal and the flyers can keep his cap hit and it wouldn't affect the wings in anyway. I think the 5M in cap space could help you in many ways, the 2 2nds if they did help wouldn't be for years</div></div>
True ... so at least (without studying your reserve list in all details) i would accept setkov + hicketts + the rights to perlini/erne ... maybe they have some value in an upcoming deal ..

Not sure what u mean? "Killing it overseas"? He has 0 (zero) pro games played. In the U20 teams he's averaging a point-per-game ... nice but not overwhelming. And the question is not he or Ghost, the question is he or two 2nd round picks ;)

You can elect not to sign erne or perlini whichever you take back in the trade, it was just a player contract we moved out when taking ghost</div></div>
Ok, i see your point but Ghost + 2020 2nd + 2022 2nd going your way and nothing going the other way is not how a trade works. I'm willing to pay but i need a small future asset coming back to the Flyers i.e. late pick or B-prospect (in my understanding a prospect is on entry-level-contract or even hasn't been signed).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mintyfresh</b></div><div>Honestly I don't understand the Nolan Patrick deal. You are selling him at his lowest value when we can just sign him back for really cheap, and possibly have him return and be a good player. He could fizzle out due to the migraine disorder, but that trade return doesn't inspire me enough to risk him turning into a number 2 overall potential with someone else. I'd rather resign him for pennies and see what happens.
I mean if you break down both deals you traded:
Nolan Patrick, Jay O'brien, Nathan Noel and a 2nd
for
Scott Mayfield and a 4th.
Just doesn't seem like good asset management.
The other deals are okay. I would use a b level prospect, a 2nd to try and dump JVR (with retention). No need in keeping him on if we aren't going to use him at all. If we keep him, I can guarantee there will be a push to make sure he is in the lineup at least during the season to try keep from pushing his value any lower than it already it is.</div></div>
I see your point and yes there are hard pills to swallow. But i don't rate Patricks value at his lowest. If we resign him for cheap and the injury issues continue and/or he's struggling on-ice, then his value will be even lower than now.
Furthermore we get more back than Mayfield (whose contract is insane in a flat-cap-world) and a 4th; we're getting cap space to sign Pietrangelo.
Regarding JVR i see no need to ship him out now (especially not with 2.5mio retention or so). We will have to pay for him to get him off the books. So why not keep him 1 more year, giving us some depth and taking off some pressure of the younger guys when they are struggling? In 1 year we can pay Seattle with a prospect + pick(s) to select him and we have no headaches who we should protect.

Do you think he still has value on a team like Det who lacks LH D, especially on the Offensive side. Think he could still qb a PP on an atrocious Detroit team? Perhaps mentor young D too?</div></div>
When healthy he is good enough for 1st line minutes in Detroit, maybe u'll have to pair him with a "def-1st" d-man. QB the PP is a no-brainer, definitely yes. About the mentoring aspect i'm not sure; i would tend to say no.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>buffbry</b></div><div>To be fair, ghost is a shadow of himself since his knee surgey and was a healthy scratch multiple times over the last 2 seasons as well as this playoffs. His cap hit is now something you will have to pay to get rid of. Ghost + 2020 2nd + 2022 2nd for perlini is all we would except. We are not taking bad contracts for free at this time</div></div>
Ok, seems to me that u like gambling ;) How about that: Detroit takes Ghost + 2020 2nd + 2022 2nd. Forget about Perlini, Flyers have enough similar prospects and no space for him. Instead of Perlini i would take your 2020 5th + a conditional pick in 2021; conditions are:
7th when at least 30 games played or healthy scratch;
6th when at least 60 games played or healthy scratch;
5th (like 6th) + 10 pts scored;
4th (like 6th) + 20 pts;
3rd 30 pts or higher;
2nd 45 pts or higher;
1st 50 pts + 1 point per game or higher
If Ghost is as bad as u assume, u get two 2nd round picks for one 5th; if he is as good as i know he can be, u'll pay :)
btw: 2 examples y draft is like gambling (imo)
- u can have the 2nd pick overall but get nothing except potential that doesn't show up due to on-ice struggling and injury issues (Patrick)
- comparison of 2 LD, one drafted 18th overall, the other 20th overall in subsequent years
a) 205gp, 119p, -44
b) 88gp, 24p, -46
The first is Chabot, the second Cholowski. And that's y i think Rubtsov + 4th + 7th in a deep draft has more value then a 2nd now + a 2nd in 2 years.

He's on the block because Flyers have tons of LHD (Provorov, Sanheim, Hägg, Zamula, York, Morin) and his defensive abilities tend to be at AHL-level and he had some injury issues the past 2 years or so.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaptJosef</b></div><div> [...] Adding lots of small things together doesn't work.</div></div>
Generally, true ... with the exception when you can adress a lot of small needs (and I see a lot of small needs for the Blues) you can get in their head by adressing all of them in one.
Edit: Fletcher must(!) build a win-now team, there's no more patience for long-term teambuilding ... therefore i see no reason why he shouldn't throw in additionally the 1st round pick and / or prospects like Rubtsov, Laberge, Ratcliffe, Strome or even Frost. Does this make sense longterm? No, but as i said: he has to build for win-now. And for this is Parayko the perfect fit (in my opinion even better as 2 of Subban, Karlsson, Trouba ... ).

Everybody is for sale ... it's just a matter of the price ... and Parayko is expected to stay 2nd D-pair behind Pietrangelo ... and: an offensive-minded lefthanded D with 1st pair potential can be a missing piece for the Blues with Bouwmeester already 35 and Dunn (maybe) not ready for 1st pair load ... and filling up their picks won't hurt the Blues ... so Fletcher should aggressivly ask for Parayko (at least to do something Hextall wouldn't have done)
