Sujet: Philly
Don't know where to start ... minor issues like: Vorobyov is signed in KHL, Patrick + Myers will get more money and Philly will have to add in the JVR + Ghost trades? No time for details because imo there are some major issues:
Your 7th d-man will be lucky if he can continue his career in the AHL next season (due to injuries he played 28 games (NHL+AHL combined) in the last 3 years and imo next injury is career ending). That isn't necessarily a major problem. But u send Sanheim to the Flames, replacing him with Hagg at 2nd pair and pushing Zamula into the NHL. So maybe (a lot of "maybe" imo) Zamula is NHL ready, u have the "problem" that hagg is a 3rd pairing d-man and Zamula has to replace Sanheim. That "problem" would be acceptable if u can pair him with a strong partner on right side. But u decide to sign Shattenkirk (at 4.5mio for 4y). So let me get it ... we move out Ghost (27yo 4.5mio AAV) in a trade where we have to pay to bring in Shattenkirk (the same type of player except he's 4 years older and a right-hand shot) at the same AAV? i don't get it ... maybe this defensive downgrade would be acceptable if we can improve our forward group ... but no, u decide to pay heavily for Gaudreau. Don't get me wrong ... Gaudreau is (was?) a superb player (maybe no franchise guy) but imo a kind of player we already have at the same position (G).

So let me sum up: u're paying picks + prospects to downgrade the d-core without upgrading the forward group for 4mio cap space? ... i don't like ...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mintyfresh</b></div><div>Honestly I don't understand the Nolan Patrick deal. You are selling him at his lowest value when we can just sign him back for really cheap, and possibly have him return and be a good player. He could fizzle out due to the migraine disorder, but that trade return doesn't inspire me enough to risk him turning into a number 2 overall potential with someone else. I'd rather resign him for pennies and see what happens.

I mean if you break down both deals you traded:
Nolan Patrick, Jay O'brien, Nathan Noel and a 2nd
for
Scott Mayfield and a 4th.
Just doesn't seem like good asset management.

The other deals are okay. I would use a b level prospect, a 2nd to try and dump JVR (with retention). No need in keeping him on if we aren't going to use him at all. If we keep him, I can guarantee there will be a push to make sure he is in the lineup at least during the season to try keep from pushing his value any lower than it already it is.</div></div>

I see your point and yes there are hard pills to swallow. But i don't rate Patricks value at his lowest. If we resign him for cheap and the injury issues continue and/or he's struggling on-ice, then his value will be even lower than now.
Furthermore we get more back than Mayfield (whose contract is insane in a flat-cap-world) and a 4th; we're getting cap space to sign Pietrangelo.
Regarding JVR i see no need to ship him out now (especially not with 2.5mio retention or so). We will have to pay for him to get him off the books. So why not keep him 1 more year, giving us some depth and taking off some pressure of the younger guys when they are struggling? In 1 year we can pay Seattle with a prospect + pick(s) to select him and we have no headaches who we should protect.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>buffbry</b></div><div>To be fair, ghost is a shadow of himself since his knee surgey and was a healthy scratch multiple times over the last 2 seasons as well as this playoffs. His cap hit is now something you will have to pay to get rid of. Ghost + 2020 2nd + 2022 2nd for perlini is all we would except. We are not taking bad contracts for free at this time</div></div>

Ok, seems to me that u like gambling ;) How about that: Detroit takes Ghost + 2020 2nd + 2022 2nd. Forget about Perlini, Flyers have enough similar prospects and no space for him. Instead of Perlini i would take your 2020 5th + a conditional pick in 2021; conditions are:
7th when at least 30 games played or healthy scratch;
6th when at least 60 games played or healthy scratch;
5th (like 6th) + 10 pts scored;
4th (like 6th) + 20 pts;
3rd 30 pts or higher;
2nd 45 pts or higher;
1st 50 pts + 1 point per game or higher
If Ghost is as bad as u assume, u get two 2nd round picks for one 5th; if he is as good as i know he can be, u'll pay :)

btw: 2 examples y draft is like gambling (imo)
- u can have the 2nd pick overall but get nothing except potential that doesn't show up due to on-ice struggling and injury issues (Patrick)
- comparison of 2 LD, one drafted 18th overall, the other 20th overall in subsequent years
a) 205gp, 119p, -44
b) 88gp, 24p, -46
The first is Chabot, the second Cholowski. And that's y i think Rubtsov + 4th + 7th in a deep draft has more value then a 2nd now + a 2nd in 2 years.
