Better Use Of Our Assets
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Angusc</b></div><div>That's not the point, the OP here is commenting on the Penguins trades today that aren't very good and their gm could have done much better on spending them somewhere else.</div></div>
You want to say the Petry trade was bad Im fully on board with you. The Marino one though was fine on its own. Marino is a 2nd pair dman but couldnt perform offensively, did not fit in our system. It would be like having a less physical Brooks Orpik back on the team in todays NHL. Marino will hopefully figure it out offensively somewhere else but not here.

New Pens
If a top 6 piece is moved to bring in Tkachuk I wouldnt expect it to be Guentzel, most likely it would end up being Rust or Kappy given their contracts are up next year and you can only afford to keep one of them.

POJ is our puck moving Dman of the future, showed great signs of being top 4 NHL Dman this year if not top pairing. Why in Gods name would you give him up.

VGK blockbuster and more READ DESCRIPTION
In order:
Pens say hard no to this, they are looking at UFA to bring in a veteran goalie, Guentzel will not be moved unless the return literally blows us out of the water
Kings trade isnt awful provided that the Kings are looking for back end up from a bottom 4 guy at best, dont think we get a third and fourth, one or the other.
The Kassian trade is just not going to happen the way you got it constructed.
Seattle is fine for the most part though I would forsee the Pens giving up Zucker in this regard
Anaheim trade is whatever

Making cap and retooling via Free Agency
As long as Mario owns this team, Malkin, Letang and Sid are ALL untouchable. That's what Mario wants, our superstars stay here if they are drafted by us. So with that in mind half your trades are dead on arrival. Oleksiak is likely not happening as POJ is most likely going to be a full time NHLer next season. Pettersson is most likely going to Seattle in the expansion draft.

Drouin out
So I imagine when the call comes in and the deal is laid out Hextall stops Bergevin from continuing and gives him Rutherfords number. While the Pens probably arent going tanking after this season the whole reason Hextall was brought in was to start stockpiling the AHL/Prospect pipeline. Poulin is arguably our best, or one of our best forward prospects. So to give him up alongside a second and the goalie we are exposing in the Seattle expansion draft? Thats gonna be a no from the Penguins side on all fronts.

No to literally everything on this list from top to bottom. Why would you ship out Jarry AND Pettersson together in the name of "Depth" When the "Depth" You are bringing back is a bunch of average goalies? Then further more why would you then trade one of those goalies for another goalie and then 2 7ths? If your main goal is to get Alex Iafollo and Tanner Pearson (Who didnt exactly work out the best in his first stint here) Then go and make those deals. Pettersson can be part of a package that includes picks for Iafollo. Then you have to be asked 'Why are you selling low on Jarry when he has been playing a lot better as of late?' and more importantly why are you trading him to Detroit where they will be in their rebuild for the next 3 seasons most likely.

Theres been 0 reports on him from Pittsburgh and I can find absolutely nothing on him from within the past month of trade rumors. Could certainly have seen it when Jarry was struggling night in and night out but since he seemed to find his groove? Nothing on the goalie front.

Thats gonna be a hard no from the Pens side of things. If you wanna talk trade we may be interested in Eric Staal with salary retention but we arent looking to give up draft capital for a backup goalie.

Trade Deadline Tweaks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DanishLeafsfan</b></div><div>But before he gets to that he remembers that his boss loves Morgan Reilly!</div></div>
So Burke is trying to immediately get fired by trading a top four right shot Dman that has a ton of control and a 4m/year cap hit for a guy that has 2 years left at 5m per for the left side that currently has:
POJ, MP, Dumolin, Matheson and Riikola.
I mean if he wants to get fired before the end of year 1? Sure let's do it.

Trade Deadline Tweaks
When the call comes through for this trade Hextall just stares at his phone in silence for a few minutes then asks very calmly "Why would we trade our cheaper right side defenseman for a LD with a higher cap hit and less control, that we currently have a surplus of even if he is good... and to boot why would we throw in a first round pick as a sweetener along with E. Rod who is extremely cheap." He then politely wishes you a good day and ends the call.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>how does moving MP for a couple picks help the team win?
by the time those picks get here Crosby will be 36 years old. They are never going to do that.
Even if them moved him, which probably isn't happening, the y aren't doing it for so little and most definitely not picks.
As for the Letang trade, they could do far better. A+ prospect and a 1st at minimum if they moved him.</div></div>
Letang has 1 year left on his contract after this season, he is being traded for 2 seconds, a top 4 Dman with longer term at cheaper cost and one of the Leafs top 5 prospects who in turn would end up as one of ours.
As for the Pettersson move again Hextall is our GM and he wants to draft/develop and fill up the pipeline while retooling. And while he isnt bad he definitely hasnt looked as comfortable in PGH over the past season or so. Hextall is going to target free agency more then he will be targeting the trade market for at least the first couple of years.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensibleguy</b></div><div>To be honest, I'm being a bit of a jerk here.
There's no room for Pettersson in Ottawa this season with Chabot, Brannstrom, Reilly, Wolanin, Coburn
Or next season with Chabot, Brannstrom, Wolanin, and 2020 5th overall Jake Sanderson likely to in the mix as well
I can't seem to convince some Pens fans that Ottawa is not a good destination for Pettersson anymore, with Brannstrom and Zub on the roster now. I figured if the Calgary fans chimed in with the same comments that there's no room in Calgary with Giordano, Hanifin, and Valimaki, maybe the Pens fans who can't seem to understand Ottawa's situation, would finally get a clue and look for a team that needs a LD.</div></div>
In fairness to a lot of us in the states its a lot harder to watch Canadian teams especially this year. While some like myself have ESPN+ and can watch more games from up north with that plus NHL Network and NBCSN its still not as many games to get a good feel for needs so I can fully accept responsibility for that. To be honest another destination I had looked at for Pettersson was for the Kings given their overhaul is getting "Closer" to completion.

Strictly going on speculation and what we have heard coming from Hextall since he was hired. He wants to re-tool around Sid/Geno while building up prospects. I dont disagree Holl might be indespensible from your guys end. This was the best fit I could make on your guys roster without moving bigger pieces and for the next season or two I think Hextall is going to horde/desire more draft capital then immediate NHL return in terms of trades.

POJ realistically should be Marinos partner the rest of the way if he keeps this up. Im just remembering right now back in August how there was people on this site (I'm legit not calling out anyone here. I only vaguely remember who they were) trying to tell me Poulin would be ready over POJ for this season and that is aging like milk.

Season ThoughtsPredictions
I cannot see us being second in this division. Third you could possibly sell me on but not second. Flyers are probably going to be first overall. I dont see how the Bruins are worse then number 2 with everything they have at their disposal and getting back Tuukka Rask at full health and focused in this time. The Capitals have gotten a lot older and slower it seems and are embracing the "MUH GRIT" Guys which I feel is a recipe for disaster for them so I can see them taking a step or two back. Islanders are like you mentioned a wild card so time will tell with them. Buffalo is extremely interesting but thats really all there is to that they gotta prove it on the ice. Devils are rebuilding, Rangers are on the upswing But their back 6 has some question marks. At best Penguins are 3 or 4 seed.

BLOCKBUSTER - OH YES I DID
No thanks. After what happened with Jagr, Mario has a policy with our home grown stars are here till they retire unless they are busts. Sid and Geno will retire as Penguins. You can make the argument that Fleury was a home grown star but he was only moved for Cap reasons at the time and already having his replacement. We have no Replacement for Sid or Geno. And this team isnt going to start tanking till 2022 at the soonest given who owns our first rounder this upcoming year so yeah.
