Just Under the Cap
I like this. We won't have the room to do anything crazy so this is likely what we're looking at next season. I was also projecting pinto in the 2M range on a bridge deal but id he hits 20 goals and .5 pts/GP that's pretty good leverage. Doubt he clears 3 though.
Hamonic has been somewhat impressive lately and it'd probably take more than that to keep him. 1.8x2 or something probably gets it done.

I'm a Sens fan and while I love Nick Holden, a second is lunacy. He doesn't even crack the lineup on lots of true contenders and if we're lucky we get a 5th for him.

John Gibson needs a fresh start
I actually like this a lot. If you look at the Anaheim's defensive metrics, it's actually insane how much Gibson is getting left out to dry. Lots of games he'll put on a show for the first period or two and then the team completely gives up once they concede a couple of goals. If the Ducks retained a little salary there's definitely a market for him and this is a decent package.
Turcotte and Petersen could both use fresh starts. Even is Peterson is terrible, somebody needs to get shelled for the next year or two. Throw in an extra 2nd or 3rd to ANA and it's a great deal for both sides.

I also don't understand why they'd move him but here's what their main beat writer Josh Yohe just published:
"<em>This leaves Marino and Pettersson as likely trade candidates. Each earns more than $4 million annually and, while they enjoyed fairly strong playoff series against the Rangers, have been average at best during the past two seasons. Marino has never been able to duplicate his remarkable rookie season... Marino is more tradable now that Letang is under contract.</em>
He also mentions that while Pettersson would strictly be a cap dump, Marino would still fetch a pretty strong return.

That Klingberg contract would quickly become the worst in the entire league. I’ve seen his name floated a few times but I’m really not a fan + Chabot is already a great power play QB

Ottawa Senators 2022-2023 Opening Lineup
Honestly can’t tell if this is serious or if you’re just trolling.
-Tierney probably gets a league min deal this year and it won’t be with Ottawa
-Subban is a 3rd pair guy at this point in his career, there’s no chance he gets 5M @ 3 years
-Wtf is that Josh Norris contract and why is he below Tierney on the depth chart?? No chance he signs for anything under 7 even if it’s a 4 year deal.
-Kuemper will get much more than 1 yr @ 4.5M
-There’s an argument to be made that Keith Yandle was the worst defenceman in the NHL this year.
Why tf are you posting this garbage?

Love the trade for Ottawa tbh. I'm all for bringing back EK65 he's exactly what we need right now. I think he still holds decent value with an 8M cap hit.

Absolutely love that Fiala trade. Works great for both teams and looks pretty fair. Do you think Connor Brown rides out the year or gets flipped before the season starts?
Also Sokolov is a beauty. Our fanbase has fallen in love with him even though it’s 50/50 whether or not he pans out.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JGDD11</b></div><div>Habs aren’t retaining on Petry</div></div>
Jeff Petry will be 35 in December and his play is falling off. There isn't a market for that type of player at 6.25M with 3 seasons left on his deal.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensonfire</b></div><div>1. Dylan Gambrell wants his qualifying offer and you're not giving it to him.
2. We are not bringing back Tyler Ennis.
3. You're overpaying Claude Giroux.
4. Montreal says "Thank you, Come again".</div></div>
1. Fixed, not sure why 100k matters for a healthy scratch lol it's just capfriendly
2. Tyler Ennis is one of my favourite players. He will retire an Ottawa Senator and you can't convince me otherwise
3. Ottawa is the least desirable FA destination outside of Arizona (there was a poll recently). Sens needs to massively overpay for players of that caliber even if it's his home town.
4. Petry was 13th in Norris voting last year. He took a big step back but kind of found his game towards the end of the season with the new coach. At ~50% retained he definitely holds decent value. They surveyed NHL execs in an Article on The Athletic recently and they pretty much all said Brannstrom's value is roughly a 3rd/4th round pick at this point. I believe a late second + Brannstrom is very fair and maybe not even enough.

What I would do
White trade is a maybe. Habs were apparently discussing a White trade with Ottawa at the deadline so who knows.
The other two trades are just straight up embarrassing. Zaitsev hold negative value even at 50% retained and the Wild won't be trading Fiala for our scraps.

Brannstrom
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Old_Snowman</b></div><div>Considering Ottawa gave up Mark Stone for Brannstrom. I highly doubt they'll give him up for that offer.</div></div>
You'd be surprised how much his value has tanked this year. He spent some time in the minors and struggled before finally being called up. With Chabot injured, he's been given a massive opportunity in these last few weeks and hasn't seized it. He's been running the first pp for the last 12 ish games and hasn't been impressive although it's supposedly his biggest strength. He's just such a weak player and gets destroyed by pretty much all opposing forwards in his own zone. The guy is incapable of boxing out his man in front of the net and isn't a great skater for an offensive Dman. He will make the occasional really nice pass and have a good game every once and awhile but that's about it.
There was an article in The Athletic recently where they were interviewing league execs/pro scouts and running mock trades with them. Brannstrom's name came up numerous times and they all said his current value is a mid round pick maybe a second at best.
We traded Mark Stone fore nothing and I've made peace with it. Rebuild is still super promising and the massive return from the EK trade helps the fanbase cope.

The only logical off-season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DucharmetheDOMinator</b></div><div>Imo sens need 1 more year of tanking before contending</div></div>
This is not true. By the time next season starts, Chabot will be 25, Batherson 24, Tkachuk 23, Norris 23. These players will all be in their primes. There’s no reason the Sens should be tanking again next year.
I am however very against the idea of trading the 2023 pick. It wouldn’t be all that surprising if they suck again next year and the 2023 draft is supposedly the deepest since 2015. Would be a very risky play and based on Dorion’s track record, it likely blows up in his face.

Competing in the Atlantic in 2 Years
The other day I was thinking about who we'd have to beat out next year to make the playoffs and who we'd be competing with when we finally start contending in 3ish years.
I think it's entirely possible we sneak in as a wild card team in 22-23. <strong>Playoff locks IMO</strong>: Rangers, Canes, Tampa, Florida, Leafs. <strong>Playoff hopefuls</strong>: Sens, Penguins, Caps, Wings, Bruins, Devils. <strong>No chance</strong>: Columbus, Islanders, Flyers, Sabres, Habs.
Out of the six playoff hopeful teams, three will miss.
-Pens: People have been predicting the penguins to fall off since before they won back to back cups. No matter what their team looks like, they just continue to be one of the best teams in the league. Things get interesting this summer with Rust, Malkin and Letang being UFAs. If Malkin or Letang walk, the team is screwed. I can't picture them in any other jersey so I doubt it though. I could totally see both of them signing for cheap then adding someone else with all that extra cap room and being a top team once again. However, their 3 core guys are going to start the season 36, 35, 35 years old. Decent chance one of them falls off but then again it never happens even though everyone calls for it every year. They aren't a lock IMO because if one of Rust, Geno or Letang leaves in FA that's a massive blow. Team is extremely old and It could legitimately be the year it finally happens.
-Washington: Same story with the Caps. No significant UFAs besides Schultz but the team is extremely old and is currently showing glimpses of weakness. Everybody calls for them to fall off as well every year and it never happens. If Caps and Penguins do fall off that leaves the door wide open for the Sens.
-Wings: Showing lots of promise. Decent shot to make playoffs next year especially if Y spends all that cap space they're sitting on.
-Bruins: Aging core. If Bergeron leaves the team is toast. Candidate to fall off but unlikely.
-Devils: Promising young core but no matter how great the offseason looks they never manage to get it together. Feels like a losing culture is being established and I think they miss again next year.
Conclusion: If Washington and Pittsburgh finally fall off, Sens will only have to beat out one of Detroit, New Jersey or Boston and playoffs are very likely. If both teams + Boston continue to magically defy the aging process, Sens probably just miss.
When looking at who we'd be competing against when our hypothetical cup window opens (around 24-25), the Rangers and Leafs will face a cap crunch but as long as Matthews resigns they should both be very competitive. Florida should still be stacked, Wings will be super dangerous, Devils probably figure it out. Those are your 5 teams to beat in the East.
Tampa and Boston probably fall of by then and the Canes are hard to get a read on. Philly, Habs and Islanders will be rebuilding. Columbus and Buffalo might be good but probably not amazing.
We could most definitely be looking at some playoff matchups against the Leafs down the road.

</div></div>
Really wish people would understand that Ottawa isn't trading Brown. I see him in almost every Sens trade from fans of other teams and it boggles my mind. If Ottawa misses the playoffs next year it would be considered pretty disappointing. They want him around next year and probably try to extend him before he hits FA. The facts you've pointed out are things you wouldn't get from just pulling up his hockey DB but are the reasons why he's the type of player coaches dream about. The only way Ottawa moves him is if next year turns into a dumpster fire and they're selling at the deadline again.

I agree with this, but you're forgetting that Dorion traded a second for Derek Stepan at 6.5M. Only reason this wouldn't work is because Ritchie gets paid more than his cap hit next year meaning Melnyk vetoes the trade.

I'm actually a pretty big fan of this. Holden would probably ask for term though which would make things a little complicated for 2023-2024. One of JBD and Lassi would definitely be ready to step in by then so you'd have to dump Zaitsev to Arizona or something. Also yes Giroux will ask for a little more, but he may take a hometown discount as he's already gotten his massive payday.
