Stop trading picks like this. With most of the big pieces in place, picks will become even more important over the next three or four years to fill in roster spots with low cost young players. I agree that a goaltending solution must be found but I can't see it being through trading away picks. More likely a hockey trade of fairly equal value or a trade deadline deal if things aren't going according to plan.

Not giving up Lavoie and Savoie to rid themselves of problem contracts that will expire at the end of this upcoming year. Can't afford the contract for Monahan right now and if those two young players develop, that gives the Oilers three years of cheap salary who can contribute to the team then. Goals shouldn't be a challenge this upcoming year for the Oilers so the trade serves no real purpose and doesn't address their concerns.

I can't see either team liking this deal. Not enough for Buffalo, at least in their mind. And, for Toronto, I would be concerned about his ongoing neck issues. I'm not a huge Marner fan but at least this would get rid of that bloated contract.

It's interesting that some are still prepared to trade first round picks when Matthews could walk in three more seasons along with Marner and Taveres in four years. I would think you would want to look at risk mitigation strategies and continuing to develop young players in case they walk.

The Flames just traded a 3rd round pick to Boston for Vlader a few days ago. That seems to be their play. So no need for a Jarry trade
