<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Spaceman</b></div><div>I dunno if they would. Tavares at 11m is crap but at 9m, this would actually be a good deal for the Avs. With MacKinnon and Tavares they'd have a formidable 1-2 at C. We saw how badly this team missed both Landeskog and Kadri this year. no Landeskog again next year. Newhook is good but he's not at that great level yet. He may never be. Avs defense is alos arguable the deepest in the league with Makar, Towes, Byram and Girard. They won the cup without Girard too. They could honestly afford to lose him and still be very good on the blueline and win another cup.

Leafs on the other hand just need balance on the ice and the cap sheet. Girard on D would help them immensely and at 5m for the next 4 years. Newhook would be a good top 9 forward for them and the money saved on JT would help bring in another forward.</div></div>

i agree with all of your thoughts on the avs - except for Tavares as the solution. The avs cannot give their 2C 9mil. Period. If you were to do this ACGM from the Avs' perspective, they are in a bad position now and in long term. There are other 2Cs that provide enough (not as much as Tavares) production for ~60% of the Tavares contract, and I expect the avs to lean in that direction, or at least someone like Kuznetsov who starts below 7.8 with the caps probably incentivized to retain on.

Also, I don't think they're giving up on Newhook yet. Team control + solid point production compared to his peers. At ~$2mil bridge deal, he's a great value 3rd liner that could see time on the 2nd.
