<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>That's fair and I did say I wasn't saying the Rags should do it but the Habs aren't likely taking back <strong>another</strong> LHD prospect either, so like I said they would be more interested in a top forward prospect and a lower pick if they had their choice, I guess the other option would just be for a 1st + 3rd and no prospects involved. Common sense should be applied to their side of the deal as well, we already have Guhle, Harris, Xhekaj, Hutson and Struble as good young D and with Matheson signed for 2 more years after this one at least 2 of them will be traded or sent to Laval next year</div></div>
1st and 3rd is palatable. I would consider that

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>Sorry, the offer is good but I think the Habs would be more inclined to get a higher valued prospect Beck and a lower pick than a 1st and good LHD prospect. Someone like Cuylle, Othmann or Kakko along with a pick in the 2nd-5th range depending on which player is coming back, in no way am I saying NY should offer that, just laying out what Montreal is more likely to be looking for</div></div>
No one will give up their Top Prospect for Monahan. If not for the Cap Crunch on all the contenders, you probably wouldn't get the 1st in any other year.
The Habs will already get more than his actual worth, because of this. But common sense and restraint will prevail, at some point.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AC14</b></div><div>Am I missing something or why is Monahan worth a 1st and a decent prospect?</div></div>
He's playing well on a bad team. Can play multiple spots. The 1st will be a late Pick (hopefully). The tight Cap will make it a Sellers Market, where low Cost/high reward players like Monahan will be deeply sought.
Adding Robertson as a sweetener (and for the slight retention) could be a little much, but may also help sway the deal for them.
The Rangers (and most other contenders) can't financially afford any big Contract players (i.e practically any big name from Calgary). The Monahans, DuClair's and Tommy Novak's of the world are who we can focus on. And that, crazy or not, will make them pricier than normal.

Possible, but Depth matters, too.
Given the uncertainty of Chytil and Kakko, probably still better to have him as insurance.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rags21</b></div><div>Jones’ only partners have been Brendan Smith, Hajek, Harpur and Schneider lol not exactly anyone good
Yea that’s fine they don’t need to change the top 4. But to say Jones isn’t good is incorrect. Because then you can say Schneider hasn’t been good until he got a Vet partner (Gus)</div></div>
I've always thought Schneider has been solid. Certain partners may sway the #'s in either direction, but he's always looked on point no matter who he's with.

He's bounced in and out of the Lineup for a dozen games or so for each of the last 4 Seasons. I doubt his Defensive partner is to fault for each of those small spurts.
Their Top 4 have been paired accordingly for the last 4 or 5 Seasons. Even with some occasional swapping to experiment a bit, they've predominantly stayed as they are now. If they haven't paired KAM with Fox on a Full Time basis by now, they're not going to.

Zac jones is 2nd of all defensemen on the team in total assist/60 and 3rd in total points/60. 3rd in CF% and 1st in GF and xGF all at even strength lol</div></div>
He's our 7th Defenseman who gets manhandled often in the Defensive Zone and put up one Primary Assist before getting sat down again. While he definitely looked more comfortable, let's not get carried away with the fancy stats.

It’s actually the opposite. Trouba and Lindgren need puck movers to help them clear the zone better because they’re strictly defensive and not good with the puck</div></div>
And Jones and Lindgren aren't puck movers.
Having your 2 best Offensive Defenseman together will limit Offensive production. Unless you have them racking up more TOI than the other 2 pairings combined, it's better to spread them out

Next year I’d go:
KAM-Fox

KAM and Fox are the aggressive, Offensive minded Defensemen. They need anchors like Trouba and Lindgren to back them up while they perform. Doesn't work.

I went higher on purpose, just in case. Better to show what room they have even while slightly "maxed" out.
If those Contracts stay in the more projected range, then even more wiggle room.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>boltsfan71</b></div><div>prob gonna cost more</div></div>
Possibly. Could be a Sellers market. Especially given the tight Cap situations.
I've seen some Novak proposals for a 1st. Some where a 1st was obtained, but Nashville packaged him with a 4th.
Time will tell (especially if he comes back healthy). But I feel I'm in the ballpark.

Sundqvist for $775K. No idea why he would choose the Blues, instead.

Probably not. Considering the tight Cap situation, as well as the fact that they reeled in numerous names for under $1M each, that maybe one of these guys would follow suit.

Opening Night
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jimbo1119</b></div><div>How about putting him in the PP slot Kane had end of last year?
Comes down to whether Lav looks to placate his vets OR do what's best for the longer term picture. Of course if LaF was inserted on PP1 he would have to perform. But he would need a generous window of opportunity to show he belongs (or doesn't belong) there. And the important thing to realize is that IF he is given PP1 opportunity and shows to fit in there, the resulting production should generate confidence and assertiveness which should REALLY benefit whatever line he is on (1st, 2nd or 3rd).</div></div>
4 spots are taken on PP1. Panarin, Kreider, Zibenejad and Fox.
For the 5th spot, he has to be better than: Trocheck (more of a 2 way player), Wheeler (36 years old), Chytil (currently ahead of Lafreniere developmentally), and Kakko (closest in standing, but better at winning puck battles).
If he can legitimately outperform all those players to earn the 5th spot, he'll have every opportunity you want him to have. If not, the blame is on him.

1OA status aside, anyone throwing out an OS that high for a kid that hasn't hit 20 Goals or 40 Points yet needs to have their head examined. Especially during another stagnant Cap year.
