2023
I may just be high on Detroit's D prospects, but I wouldn't pull the trigger, the value seems fine, but Detroit's need is at C not D.
Edvinsson, Johansson and Wallinder are all coming through shortly.
Buium, Tuomisto, McIsaac, Sebrango all also have shots at cracking the lineup to a degree. Seider is here for the long term, and I think Hronek will be a part of the roster long term too.
Seider and Edvinsson should be the long term top pairing, and with a pipeline like that i'd rather fill the bottom 4 from within.
Zadina I think is far more valuable than his point totals suggest, and a top 6 of Raymond, Larkin, Bertuzzi, Zadina, Vrana, '22 1st should be deadly.

Should Yzerman go after a top 6 C
He absolutely should go after one, in this year's draft. I think Detroit will be in the top 10 or early teens and have the pieces to execute a trade up, or they might get some damn lottery luck for once. Pick 11+Bertuzzi to move up could be an attractive package for example.
Especially if Yzerman sells a couple of the expiring players at or before the deadline. I dont think losing Leddy, Namestnikov and/or Stetcher will hurt the team's development. The entire team is built on patient development, the defensive pipeline looks set, and will be slightly slower to develop, this year is the year to address the needs at forward.

So, a team can only retain salary on a limited number of players, 3iirc so some of these moves would need to be reworked.

I like the analysis, I think you will be met with skepticism, and that was my initial reaction.
I have not gone through all player comparables, but using cap percentage instead of dollar value gives a different picture, Giroux as a comparable for example signed for 12.87% of the cap, which with today's cap hit would be $10.5m - I dont know however whether NHL execs think this way either.

As a Wings fan I don't understand why the Avs would do this?
You don't seem to be saving money, Girard is probably better than Hronek, if not better than at least pretty similar.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JS1</b></div><div>Why would they not? They need a leader on D. If you want to change the pick from 1st to a 2nd, ok.</div></div>
Because by that time you're hopefully handing the reigns of defensive leadership to Seider with maybe a couple of 'veterans' like Stetcher and Leddy to support the transition.
At the time of this trade Trouba has 3 further years at $8 million. Detroit clearly would not want that kind of contract on the books, especially as someone who's best characteristic is touted as leadership, you can tell this because they both do not have anyone signed close to $8 million, and don't have anyone signed for more than 3 years.

I like this, solid. Definite improvement on last season, flip a couple players at the deadline and this team is comfortably bottom 5 despite having some of the young guys develop.

Elite name, but Detroit isnt really needign to trade for a forward like Grimaldi.
At $2m you may find takers elsewhere, unlikely but possible.

Open to moving him does not mean selling him at market value.
I am open to selling my car, but someone would have to offer me more than the value of my car so I would be able to afford a replacement car and still have profit...

I'm not sure it's necesserily more value per se. Fewer better assets would be better. The 1st is great, and imo necessary, then I would just want 1 great prospect.
Detroit's need is quality not quantity. If you look at the draft just gone every pick was a wild swing for the fences, we have plenty of bottom/middle 6 forwards, plenty of bottom 4 D, we need either 1 star, or ~2 more VERY good players to form a top line and top pair. 1st + Toronto's best forward prospect would be appropriate.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy12Bob</b></div><div>You can get more from both those deals.
Carolina needs to trade Foegele (he's asked for a trade) add him instead of the 2nd round pick or keep the pick and throw in Namestnikov instead of Svech.
TB have very little leverage and their 1st round pick is no better than our 2nd. They have prospects at C that we need, go after them instead (Finley, Goncalves, Ryfors).</div></div>
Potentially, but cap dump trades are a race to the bottom to get rid of the contract for the lowest value. While what you're proposing would be nice im not sure if its quite realistic. Both Gardiner and Johnson would be usable players filling areas of need for the team. A pick in the late 20s and 50s is still a good get.

As a Detroit fan I wouldn't be mad at Robertson + 1st honestly.
Bertuzzi is a fan favourite and one of the bright spots on a bad team. Im on the side of just not trading him unless the offer blows your socks off. Most Detroit fans I have seen here are treating the offer that blows your socks off as the only acceptable offer.

The two statements are seperate though. The leaf's standpoint can be that Sandin is untouchable and that's fine.
It just also needs to be acknowledged that if Detroit trades Bertuzzi to a division rival it won't be for the spare parts that are often proposed. Remember Dubas paid a first and a fourth for a Nick Foligno rental...

You're probably not wrong. The first is pretty late in the round too.
I don't hate it as a wings fan Nino is just 1 year, and Gardiner is 2, but is at least at a position of need, though I don't think he fits the system too well.
I would hope for more, but wouldn't be mad.

Much as we love him thats just not the case.
If I remember correct Yzerman himself has explicitly said that anyone not named Seider, Raymond and (I think) Zadina is available.
The Minnesotta pick is 22nd, so I don't think it does the job 1 for 1, but it starts the conversation.

Bertuzzi, comparable to the Mantha trade in value, maybe a smidge less.
1st and either useful roster player of suitable age in need of a change of scenery or Solid A-/B+ Prospect.
In my opinion, some will want more, I get it.

It's been around since 2017 and it's basically a multiple, full-year round Arm-Chair GM with other users on this site. You'd be in charge of drafting, trading, free agency, etc. all along with some sophisticated scoring and playoff structure. I'd think you'd be a great addition to the game. If you want to know more or have any questions, just reply to this post and I'll be happy to answer them.</div></div>
Probably a thank you but no thank you.
I'm pretty casual and usually just come and go on a bit of a whim, it's interesting to argue prospects for 20 minutes of a bored evening, but that sounds like it has a much higher commitment threshold, sorry man.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AyyPavy</b></div><div>How is using the 9 game odd. U saying that a prospect doesnt have good value because they are unproven is odd. Guess Every team should turn down a Owen Power trade for a 7th because hes unproven.</div></div>
Commenting on the 9 games shows you are setting a narrative where you are intentionally undervaluing Bertuzzi based on a factor out of his control, that should not have an impact on his play in Toronto.
If you have a look back at OHL top scorers you can see that some prospects can nail it in the O and not make it in the NHL, i.e. their metrics in junior do not guarentee success at a higher level.
Top OHL scorers before Robertson: Justin Brazeau, Dmitri Solokov, Alex DeBrincat, Christian Dvorak, Joseph Blandisi, Dane Fox, Reid Boucher, Tyler Toffolix2, Bryan Cameron, John Tavares, Brett Mclean, John Tavares.
You can see in there that there are some great names, some good names, some players who had some time in the NHL, and some who failed to make an impact.
We won't know which of those Robertson will be until he actually plays, which he has not done. He looks good out there, he looks like he should have a regular NHL shift one day, I couldnt with any confidence say he's going to be more than a middle 6 winger. Is the gap between an established middle 6 winger who can be an excellent complimentary piece on the top line and a potential middle 6 winger who could still just not pan out really only a 2nd?

Yup, prospects hold less value because they are an uncertainty, we have not yet seen how Robertson's game translates, and if it does whether he can drive a line or not. Bertuzzi is a known quantity.
Using the 9 game argument is a bit odd, he was injured and missed time with surgery, it's not as if he missed the games by being a healthy scratch. Take a player like Kucherov, he missed the whole season but that doesnt affect his value because we know what he is and what he can do.
