TOR Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Roviet_Sussia</b></div><div>Dermott is <em>statistically</em> better than Murphy. It's likely a bi-product from playing on a more successful TOR team, but I like his improved footspeed over Murphy. I think Freddy is a decent goaltender and has been overworked in TOR; I'd like to see Lankinen or Delia work in an NHL tandem this season.
If it doesn't work out, Freddy can always be a deadline trade piece similar to Lehner.</div></div>
I hear what you're saying statistically, but take a look at the link below. The most important part about these charts are the "content" section. It's indeed arguable that Dermott does indeed marginally edge Murphy in the stats section. What's more important is though....
Murphy - Plays 85% of the time against the opposing teams top competition - 12% Ozone Start Ratio - Has a 35% quality linemate when he goes out there.
Dermott - 35% against elite - 70% Ozone start ratio - 78% quality linemmate when he goes out there.
So I hear you on the marginally better stats, but Murphy A.) flips the ice B.) does against better competition and C.) doesn't get nearly as much help as Dermott. That's why like hate the idea of trading away Murphy. Oh and he's cost controlled for 2 more years.

Agreed on the over worked with Freddie, but Crow's been very vocal that he wants to stay and money isn't his primary concern. I think we can get him...a better goalie...for less cap. Maybe another year though.

I like the Wild trade. Trading Brodin within the division sucks but I'm sure Hawks fans feel the same about Strome.

Do the Stars have any interest in a package like this
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Phleb2</b></div><div>I find Strome very intriguing. A very good season last year made me wonder if he was finally coming out of his shell. Then this year it's kind of disapointing if you compare to last year.
I think that Lindell has a little more value but not that much. People that do not follow the Stars may look at Lindell's stats and wonder why he got that contract. While I feel the Stars gave him too much money, Esa has high value. That is if you put high value on elite defensive play and elite PK. Lindell plays all the tough minutes and gives the coaching staff over 20 minutes per game and sometime close to 30.
As for Strome, he could become a very fine second center and that has value also. He just has not demonstrate consistency from what I can observe while Esa is very consistent.</div></div>
I can really only speak to Strome. He's got 80 points in 95 games with the Hawks when he plays center. For some very stupid reason, this past season they tried him out at wing after he has a minor ankle injury. He wasn't good at it. Was it a nagging injury? I don't think so. He's just not a winger. It's like 2012 when they tried Kane at center...Kane got 66 points. So dumb.

The Coyotes writer Craig Morgan came out after and said "it was not an opportunity with another team that Chayka was exploring, but another professional opportunity"

CDH vs Maatta
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Roviet_Sussia</b></div><div>I'd think Maatta is the most likely to get moved, unless a team specifically wants CDH. Maatta is cheaper (though not by much) and has a much friendlier buyout clause that will interest teams the most.
I'd also be inclined to keep CDH despite having a lower GAR than Maatta, mainly because
1.) He's better at relieving pressure in both zones (cc @ShutdownLine)
2.) CDH plays more aggressively than Maatta, which is something CHI needs more of on the backend</div></div>
I’d agree with the aggressiveness/physicality for sure and relieving pressure is good too. That would probably be my inclination too, but the risk for injury with CDH is definitely something that concerns me. But it’s going to concern any other potential trade partner too. I think De Haan stays

My take on Bergevin
Easier said than done getting a top centerman. The only ones who do become available usually have some pretty big question marks attached (usually pending UFA or over 30 with too much term left). You're also competing with at least half a dozen other teams who have the same needs.
The only other alternative is drafting them or spending quite a bit on someone who might get there but isn't yet.
Smart GMs don't give up good centerman unless they are fleecing the other team.

Expansion
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Roviet_Sussia</b></div><div>I feel like he's already succeeding, but he needs the contract to go with it. If I were CHI, I'd go for a cheap one-year deal to get through the expansion draft and then sign him to the cap hit of whomever got selected (someone like De Haan/Maatta).</div></div>
That’s a good plan too. I copied the Justin Holl deal, because I felt they were similar players in somewhat similar situations. Koekkoek is just now coming off a one year deal, but if he took another one, I’d be for it. I just want to keep him, one way or the other. If we could hang on to Maatta too, that wouldn’t be the end of the world

What
I always do think it's fair to point out that the pieces for the 2010 Stanley Cup were already with the team when McDonough was hired on...as well as Bowman's promotion and Q being hired. And a lot of the players were already drafted prior to Tallon taking over as well. I feel like a lot of roses are thrown at Tallon when his biggest moves were drafting Toews at 3 and Kane at 1 (both no-brainers), signing Campbell to a cap busting free agent deal and signing Hossa. Keith, Seabs, Byfuglien, and a few others were drafted prior to Tallon.
By all accounts McDonough is great. Thanks to him for the 13 seasons and his role in the 3 Cups.
Looking forward, perhaps it's time for a new voice at top. All of the Fire Bowman chanters should be cautiously optimistic that a new team president will fire Bowman and bring in a new GM. My opinion of Bowman is he's made a lot of mistakes, some good moves, well above average at drafting players, and overall a top 10 GM in the NHL-probably more because a lot of them are just worse rather than Bowman being great. If he is fired, fine, but I'm not fully convinced that a new GM will automatically be better.

Correct. NSH is still on the hook for $24m if Weber retires before his contract expires for instance. So if he retired with 2 years left NSH gets hit with a $12m x 2 penalty, he retires with 1 year left they would get hit with all $24m in one season.

Cancel The Season Please
Honestly though, I think they just should. Just imagine winning the cup, and let's just say it's a team that hasn't won it recently (i.e not a pittsburgh, chicago, washington, st louis, etc). That would be ridiculously anticlimactic. Nobody in the arena, no parade, you can't (or shouldn't) have a big celebration... It would just kind of suck. Ngl, if they do the playoffs and the corona situation is similar to what it is now, I hope the Leafs don't win the cup.

Honestly not a huge fan of Strome’s. IMO he’s overrated and not even a second line center. Strome is carried by his wings. His best games, point wise anyways, came when he was on the same line as Kane. The problem is Columbus doesn’t have a wing even close to the skill level of Kane.
That being said Jarmo has said the The Russians are off limits, that includes Marchenko.

Strome on a 1 year prove it deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NeedTheCleanser</b></div><div>I don’t really understand why his best situation is in CHI....</div></div>
Three reasons.
A.) with the Cap uncertainty...no UFA or RFA is going to get what they WANT. It's just not possible. This is the wrong year to be looking for a long term deal. Not enough money to go around. So, wait for 1 more year when you can cash in.
B.) He can get back to that .9ppg pace now that (hopefully) that terrible experiment @ wing is over. He's a true center which is a good thing. and he's found GREAT chemistry with Debrincat. He could...risk...going to a different team, but
C.) He's been in other places where the "situation" was NOT good. He knows what uncertainty is like. Going form Erie, PHX, back to Erie...then PHX, Tus, back to PHX. Then only to be traded away! Again, he found great chemistry with Debrincat and they belong on a line together again. A 1 year deal with the Hawks would likely yield a better long term deal than risking an unknown situation with another team.

By points percentage, which is what people should be using to account for GP differences, we are tied for 5th with the Wild. I'm not saying that we are in a good position, but this road trip should define the season. If they go under .500 in the next five games, Bowman should go into sell mode and join the lottery chase. If we hit a hot streak, see if there's a good deal to be had on the market without selling future assets and try to sneak into a playoff spot.
We'll see what happens, but, no matter what happens this season, if Erik Gustafsson is on this team after February 24th I will burn down the UC myself.

Blackhawks 2020-21 v2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stan_Bowman</b></div><div>It seemed, at the start of the season at least, everyone was okay with him going down to Rockford and working with Anders Sorensen to find his game. So I’m not exactly sure where you get the notion that he was expected to be an immediate producer coming out of training camp. In fact I recall nothing except negativity surrounding his chances of making then NHL with many people citing his point production in the AHL (He never had a chance to get going for long before getting hurt) Sure, many people, myself included hoped that he would be ready for a top 6 role in the NHL. However the fact of the matter is that he isn’t ready for that opportunity and in a rare display of mismanagement (more like desperation) the Blackhawks gave Nylander, who had a good camp but not top line forward like camp, a role he neither deserved or was ready for. The Blackhawks needed a LW spot on the top line, and tried to force Nylander a first year NHL player (people forget that) to be a top line guy.
I haven't heard anything about Nylander trashing Buffalo, but if he did that hardly matters anyways.
I don’t see why people think it’s a good idea to move on from Nylander either, even if you get. *checks notes* Ryan Strome you are hemorrhaging value from the Joki for Nylander trade.
There’s a saying that when you buy a new car, as soon as you drive it off the lot it loses half it’s value. Sometimes when you drive a new car there are some kinks in it, and things you have to get used to or adjust for your liking. Now let’s say that in this analogy you panic and think there is something wrong with the car you have two options, sell it to the dealer for half value, or ride it out and hope it works itself out.
Now for obvious reasons you wouldn’t want to sell the car you just bought, especially when you realize you are losing a hefty amount of money in your investment.
Instead of trading in your car for half value, and paying even more money to get a new car, it’s seems only logical to keep the car you just bought, even if it has a few minor issues. You can fix these issues, and get the car running like you want it too if you take the proper steps and precautions.
Obviously in this analogy Nylander is the Car, and yea we're still taking about hockey here.
It just makes no sense to move on from Nylander when he is so young and you don’t know what you are getting back in Ryan Strome, who is vastly benefiting from Panarin…
Plus having to add a significant piece like a 2nd round pick for someone who Is having a career year? Count me out.
For the record, I think it’s fine for Nylander to use this year to learn, it only seems natural considering his situation. Bailing on him does nothing for us this year, and I do believe he is one of the Blackhawks best 12 forwards this season.</div></div>
Sorry, but I don't think that analogy is fully applicable. Nylander isn't some 'new car' we just drafted, he's a slightly used car we just drove off the CarMax lot thinking we can fix the problem with the engine, and then realized that it's missing a part that isn't made anymore. The analogy is getting more ridiculous, but what I'm trying to say is that we knew what Nylander's shortcomings were coming into this year, we thought we could fix whatever wasn't working for him, and clearly things just haven't worked out. Maybe we need to give it another year, sure, but I just do not believe that he will improve. He may be only 21, but this is his 4th season playing at least 1 game in the NHL. We would lose value from the Jokiharju trade by trading him now, yes, but, based on my belief about his skill and his future in the league, we will lose even more value the longer we wait to trade him.
