Leafs 22-23 No Campbell
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>But he blocks two good prospects who belong in the NHL next season (Ian Mitchell and Alec Regula) so more harm then good</div></div>
There's the possibility the coaching staff would rather both of them get top pairing minutes in the AHL and develop more facets of their game. If anything, the coaching staff can split the games played between Holl and Mitchell if they feel that could ease Mitchell into NHL level play. Regula being 21, he may be in a situation where he is too young to translate his game to the NHL at this time. Let him prove his consistency in the AHL for another year and next year he can make a really strong case to be in the NHL roster.

Holl can be showcased for the regular season then traded at the deadline, netting Chicago additional assets. The Hawks are sacrificing next season anyway.

Arizona passes, takes more than Holl and a 2nd round pick that's still 3 drafts away to unload on Petr Mrazek.
Colorado passes, They can do better than Kerfoot.</div></div>
Campbell has said he wants to remain on the team. 4 mil x 5 seems fair considering his comparables would be what Carolina signed this past offseason with Raanta and Andersen. Those two have more of a proven track record than Campbell and Campbell is getting more term than what both of those goalies were offered.
I figured the Ritchie trade was Ritche and a conditional 2nd round pick so Mrazek and a 2nd round pick with an additional asset in a minute eating defenseman in Holl that can play PK1 minutes would be decent. What would you suggest the Leafs offer instead?
Colorado will be losing Kadri to free agency in the offseason. Kerfoot has developed well where he can play on any line and be a net positive. Kerfoot also had a career year this past season. He could be a decent placeholder while they find a replacement for what Kadri brought to the team. If not Colorado, which team would you suggest would have interest in Kerfoot?

Those are good comparables. I'll have to adjust to come closer to what they signed at the time of their next contracts.

who is the mystery forward the leafs are interested in
Motte on the Canucks could be a possible target. His impact on the Canucks is similar to Hyman's with the Leafs and is progressing offensively year over year. Would be a good opportunity to pick him up to shore up the top six and add further depth.
I could see a trade between the two teams occurring. Maybe the centre pieces are Motte and Dermott and build around it? Add another minor impact player from both sides to balance out the cap for both teams as they're both near the cap limit and Toronto adds a draft pick (4th or 5th round) to compensate the Canucks for trading away a cost controlled player in Motte for this season and next. Canucks get a boost in defense as Dermott is great at neutral zone denials, plays with sandpaper, can play both defensive positions, can chip in offensively, and remains an RFA after this season's contract is finished.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>Bidding war??? Did I miss something?</div></div>
Could very well be a possibility depending on when the goalies are traded. If the Rangers and Leafs wait until after free agency when the big name UFA goalies are snatched up then the teams that are looking for starters will be a little more desperate to secure Andersen and Georgiev.

There would be a bidding war on Georgiev so the Leafs would have to pay more than what is offered at the moment. If they do end up securing Georgiev's contract, then his extension would be around 3 million per year cap hit over three years (cap hit percentage less than Murray when he signed his extension but he won cups so he got that bit of a boost).
Same could be said for Parayko. If he were to be available for trade then a lot of teams would zero in on him. May have to give a little more to secure his contract.
Andersen can definitely get more than only a 2nd round pick. A low 1st round pick and maybe either an okay prospect or a cost controlled roster player would be more likely. Depending on when he is traded, the Leafs may be able to acquire more assets (all the goalies in free agency were snatched up and the pending UFAs got re-signed by their respective teams, then there could be a potential bidding war amongst teams that are in need of a starter).
The others I can't comment on as I'm not familiar enough with the assets being traded for to form an opinion.

Leafs - Strengthening Defensive Depth and Acquiring Goaltending
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>deys3232</b></div><div>I dont get the Murray for Andersen swaps
Pittsburgh doesnt need a goalie. Also Andersen has consistently been better than Murray for the last 3 years. Why are you downgrading in net?</div></div>
Yes, Andersen has the better track record but he unfortunately priced himself out of Toronto. The Leafs can afford to spend around 5-6% of the cap on a starting goaltender and Murray's next contract should be around that amount.
Pittsburgh gets an insurance policy in Andersen in case Jarry doesn't show consistency with more starts. Toronto gets cost controlled goaltending for multiple years.

Pitt is trying to move a goalie. Not break even. Easy pass...</div></div>
Tanev would want term and he's never been healthy so GMs would not want to pay anything above 3 million for him to play around 40 games every year. DeMelo could be bumped up another few hundred thousand.
Penguins would love to buy another year to make sure Jarry can take a starter's load. Andersen buys them that one year and the team can choose to extend him should Jarry require more time after next year.

Take Two on Solidifying Goaltending Tandem
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>Andersen was going into his 3rd season as a starter. Compared to gieorgiev’s short.... average resume.</div></div>
He's been playing a starter's load since the 2014-2015 season. He's been holding onto consistent numbers of around .916 average the entire time which gets teams into playoffs and if a hot hand occurs, could potentially win the cup. He's been posting these numbers while with the Leafs and previously with the Ducks but they're around the same. He's a great goalie but he hasn't stolen a series like other goalies have that have played against him. Maybe his time will come eventually but he is definitely getting you to the playoffs.
Georgiev, is a promising goalie just like Andersen was at the time he was extended by the Leafs. Georgiev has less of a track record but his numbers seem good so far. His saves average on shots between 1-15 ft and 15-30 ft are better so there should be a bit of an overpay to acquire an asset that can produce those numbers regularly. The Leafs are terrible with defense close to the net so he'd be a slight upgrade compared to Andersen though it would not matter too much over an entire season when comparing the two. It would result in a couple extra wins (you'd hope your team would win enough to make it not make a difference).

More of a cap dump than anything assuming the Leafs acquire Georgiev. Him being on the bottom six should allow him to excel throughout his contract.

Bertuzzi trade is considering the team takes a gamble on a player that can contribute defensively but is not cost controlled. The points he put up this year is great. The leafs could remove the draft pick and make the trade one-for-one if they could sign him for a similar cap hit percentage that they did for Johnsson, assuming Bertuzzi repeats his numbers.

Georgiev's stats in regards to shots saved between 1-15 ft and 16-30 ft are better than Andersen's. And it's not just one year. It's throughout both their careers. The Leafs will benefit from it.
Your opinion could have been said for when Andersen was acquired but he turned out great for the team at that time. He's still a great goalie but his cost is a price the Leafs are not able to afford.

Leafs Stabilizing goaltending and short term fixes for defense
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tomato43</b></div><div>I think you are underestimating how much Demelo will get. He is just about the only UFA i would be interested in signing but his age and the fact that he is right handed will almost guarantee a bigger contract than a 1 year 1.25M dollar deal. He has been making almost no money from NHL standards for a while and should take what ever deal offers him the most money and term.
Tanev will get more term than that and money as well.</div></div>
DeMelo may be interested in taking a one year contract to boost his value in the future. He would have ample opportunity on the Leafs' defense lineup to showcase his abilities (similar to Ennis, who signed with Toronto because of their medical staff/facilities being a benefit to continuing his career and also an opportunity to showcase himself). If DeMelo ends up not signing with the Leafs then they still have Lehtonen to slot into the lineup (fifth highest point producing skater in the KHL and garnered A LOT of offers from many teams. Another gamble similar to Mikheyev).
The market may be wary of Tanev due to him never really having a healthy season until this season. Yes, he is very good defensively but his track record regarding his health lowers his value. GMs may not want to give term to a defensive defenseman whose track record shows he will play a little over half a season.

Leafs Stabilizing goaltending and short term fixes for defense
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BSpadaro83</b></div><div>I mean the easy answer is the Rangers instantly accept this deal and then immediately flip Andersen to like Ottawa or something for a decent haul.</div></div>
They definitely can do that if management is comfortable with Lundqvist being a backup for his final year and then have to think about acquiring a backup goalie either through the system, trade, or free agency. Trading Andersen would allow the Rangers to acquire even more assets and have the cap space to re-sign their upcoming expiring contracts.
I was thinking since the league is trending towards equal goaltending tandems (Boston for example) to ensure their designated starter is as fresh as can be for the playoffs, Andersen would provide a better chance for Shesterkin to remain fresh. But they certainly can trade him after acquiring him.

That's right. It's nothing against Andersen's ability. The team just would not be able to pay him fairly for what he provides with the limited cap space they have.

Sure, they would have three goalies for another season but Lundqvist and Andersen's contracts both end at the same time. The team is still rebuilding at least for another season. Andersen could then be extended and the Rangers would have a tandem of Shesterkin and Andersen. Kapanen's cap hit is very fair for the point production he provides at the limited minutes he gets plus he plays on the powerplay and is a great penalty killer.

Lundqvist's effectiveness has diminished. The Rangers can keep three goalies up for another year and split the starts between Andersen and Shesterkin. They're in no hurry as they are still a rebuilding team.
The request for permission to negotiate the extension with Georgiev doesn't have to be a hard condition. I was thinking the same thing happened when the Leafs traded for Andersen but I can't remember if he was an RFA at the time of the extension.
Sure, it's an overpay but the Leafs have an abundance of right wingers and you have to give value to get value.
