<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfkst1</b></div><div>LeBrun said they want to trade Wheeler, but he has a five team NTC and they might buy him out instead if no trade materializes. You think WPG ownership wants to eat dead money? Chevy said he wants roster players not futures either. All in all, not looking like WPG has ANY leverage whatsoever. I do think fair in this context would be PIT adding a pick, but you aren't getting fair value on Wheeler either.</div></div>
WPG's ownership might not want to eat dead money, but might not want to pay 11 million (actual dollars---5 million AAV) by acquiring Granlund instead of the 8.25 owed Wheeler, either . . . unless, of course, Chevy is somehow convinced (doubtful) that Granlund makes the Jets a better team. Mind you, Granlund's dollars would be spread over 2 seasons . . . So who knows. Maybe ownership is just that frugal! (Co-owner David Thomson was recently listed as the 4th richest sports team owner in the world.)
But when Chevy said he wanted roster players to remain competitive, fairly confident he was talking about the return on higher value assets like Dubois & Hellebuyck, maybe even Scheifele.
Addition by subtraction, sometimes. WPG might have to retain on Wheeler (up to 4.125) to get a more favorable return, or buy out is 5.5 million, but either option comes in less than 11 million . . . so again, leverage or not, unless Jets really like something about Granlund's game, the trade proposed is bad business.

That's rich for a 3C with one year left. I'm sure Seattle respectfully declines. They are stacked at forward, currently, with optimism Wright may need a spot very soon.

Sprong could probably be had as his production with limited minutes last season likely means he's due a promotion, both financially and in playing time, which Seattle is lkkely not prepared to offer him.
I think Seattle will want to retain Lind after his breakout performance in Coachella's run to the Calder Cup finals.

Would you do that deal with Fegemo* instead of Kupari. Really like that prospect---hope he's a part of any deal that might be made for either Dubois or Helly, if LA is the trade partner for one of them. So. . . You're probably right. Homer thing to say! Whether Dunn is a "stud" or not, he had a great season, and while acquiring Hanifin would be awesome, I think if Seattle <em>essentially</em> traded Dunn to get him would be a slight downgrade and a mistake.

I like Lindholm, alot, but I also think he may be slightly (just slightly) mis-cast as a first-line center in Calgary. He had a great offensive year centering two elite wingers with career seasons in 21/22, which certainly raised his value. I believe Calgary showed that by signing Kadri, also, expecting <em>him</em> to be the 1C, but hey, I might be wrong.
Anyway, pretty sure Seattle is very optimistic that 1C belongs to Beniers, and that Wright becomes the 2C in the very near future. But regardless, it is again, ultimately, too prohibitive a cost in your proposed trade to essentially swap quality d-men and ship out Seattle's top prospect and top 4 picks, along with one of Seattle's MVP's for Lindholm and Kylington, IMO.

I wonder if that is one of the more expensive goalie tandems in nhl history!!! (?)
Adding Lindholm and Hanifin (with extensions) would certainly be intriguing. Great players that I both really like . . . but that cost is just <strong>WAY</strong> too much and I can't see Francis doing it. Forget the fact that Calgary would be getting a stud blue-liner in Dunn---lets just say that it's a wash with Hanifin as a return, though that might be generous---and then there's Gourde who makes any team better, as well as all that potential in Wright out the door . . . add to that you basically want to wipe out all four of Seattle's top-end draft picks this year, one of the deepest drafts in a long time. I think Kraken ownership would regret Francis' extension after just such a trade!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>arafay</b></div><div>Yes, but the jets don’t need cap space next year. They can easily retain on wheeler and move on. No point in tying up cap next year when you might need it, vs now when you definitely don’t. All while saving real dollars, which does matter to a small market team like the jets.</div></div>
I agree, the actual dollars definitely matter to the Jets. Not sure of your point, though . . . you start by saying the Jets don't need cap space next year, then you go on to say they may need it next season as a reason to trade him and retain half his salary. (?) And you say they can easily retain on him and move on; I think it's likely that the same can be said about buying him out---if the owner can stomach the extra million or so, of course! It's quite doubtful they'll be flirting with the cap ceiling next season, especially if/when the cap rises as predicted.
Anyway, I'm sure we'll have our answer soon enough! But hey, if they can get some team to deal a 2nd rounder for him, absolutely they should retain half his salary and bd done with it!!
(Again, it just won't be Seattle! Lol)^^

KrakenTheCode didn't say one way or another that a 2nd Rounder wouldn't be fair value to dump Driedger, just that Seattle wouldn't need to pay it based on their cap situation. Furthermore, if they really want him gone, they could easily buy Driedger out and it would only cost them $500,000 against the cap this season. . . . Save them <em>whatever</em> draft capital it might cost to dump him somewhere.
If Seattle chose to trade Wennberg, I think there's a move somewhere that would make more sense than just gifting him to Arizona . . . especially if Seattle retained on his final year.

And again! . . . LOL. . . Seattle likely won't acquire Yamamoto just to say they have a local guy in the mix. Seattle is deep on the wing and has no issue scoring (which was Yams issue last season for some reason). His opportunities to succeed would certainly be more limited than those he was afforded in Edmonton, and honestly, when you consider he failed to produce offense last season when given the chance to play with 2 of the world's best offensive players, it doesn't inspire the Kraken to add him at the expense of someone else on the roster. Lastly . . . helping a division rival free up cap space so they can improve their roster is none too appealing, either!

Could Dubas pull off The Return
I agree with what KrakBirds23 said, that Seattle would only likely do this to get a guy they really like if still available at 14, probably a d-man.
But Francis loves him some Geekie, too! I think it's more likely you remove the players from this deal and up the 2nd Rounder going to PIT as either WPG's (50oa) or Seattle's own (52oa), maybe SEA throws on a little something more if they really like who's available!
Dubas has a history of trading down, but not sure he'd do it at this draft, his first with the new club!
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KrakBirds23</b></div><div>I think Seattle passes at the end of the day. Poulin isn't worth the first and the second, and I don't think he offers more than Geekie. Moving up 6 spots in the draft may be on the table but I think Seattle holds pat on the pick at 20 for now as there isn't that big of a drop in talent there. Only reason I could see them moving up is if there is a d-man they prefer.</div></div>

All it would save is 1.375 million in actual total $$, but that should only concern Chipman! Capwise, if I'm Chevy, I don't want to retain anything more than 3 million if trading Wheeler for some sort of return. To buy him out is only 2.75 on the cap this year and next, neither of which should likely be a problem . . . especially if cap goes up considerably next season as forecasted.

I know it says ANY TEAM, but I think even with retention it might be optimistic to expect a 2nd Rounder for Wheeler at this point. (especially Seattle!). Buying him out would cost less against the cap this year, but I guess if WPG can get <em>some</em> kind of decent return for him by retaining 1/2 his salary, they should go for it.

Those are deadline deals where a lot of mistakes are made, quite often by the 15 teams that don't win the cup! If you can get a 1st or a 2nd for Edmondson this off-season, well good on ya! . . . Fairly confident it won't be from Seattle, though.

If that's what Montreal would want there are cheaper and arguably better alternatives available for the Kraken to pursue. Edmundson's a solid defensive defenseman, but he's also injury-prone and only a year away from free agency; I think the Habs are looking at a mid-round pick at best in return for him.</div></div>

Adding a forward, especially a winger, is likely @ the bottom of the Kraken's to-do list this off-season, and certainly not at the cost of a 2nd rounder for a one-dimensional player like Olofsson. Not when that capital can be better spent elsewhere.
