Changes to opening lineup 21-22
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bluejackets2000</b></div><div>You can’t be serious.
Stenlund is bad. And he plays like a noodle…very soft for a guy 6’4”. Domi started to really play much better the last 15 games last year. Domi was injured most of last year, he had shoulder surgery 4 months ago, and has worked his a&& off to return for the season opener. He is tough, and now motivated to play well. Bemstrom has the skill and has played much better than Texier over the last 2 years. Texier plays with an edge sometimes, but he disappears for long stretches of games.
Robinson, Kuraly, and 4th line will be key. They need to roll the F lines evenly and get scoring from the 3rd and 4th line to take pressure off of the 1st line and 5v5.
The 14 they have selected are the best choice to start the season. Chinakhov and Hoffman should sit for game #1.
The Jackets have a weak schedule in October. Most of the games are against non playoff teams and Seattle.
The first 8 games will be a good benchmark for them. The biggest problem they will have this season is keeping leads into the 3rd period, as they already have shown in preseason with this against Detroit Buffalo and Pittsburgh.
I think it will be fun to watch a more relaxed and fun group of young talent without Torts spewing out his bad joo-joo on the team. It got old. And he chased a lot of players out of town.
They just now need to build back chemistry. They were disjointed last year, gaps were too wide, and were not creating space off the puck for good passing lanes. Just were not in sync. This has already improved this preseason.</div></div>
I will take Stenlund on the boards any day over watching Domi and Bemstrom bleed goals and offer free turnovers. Stenlund has a hell of a shot but rather than ever feeling free to take one Torts almost had our offense set up like rather than whoever is open take the shot it had to be one of “desingnated shooters” like Bjrokstrand or Laine. It was so predictable, i would watch over and over again opposing teams choke off these key guys and offense dies because the rest were afraid to shoot. Stenlund looked good on the wing before they put him at center in their desperation at the position. He was put in a bad position and was never a good enough skater to play center. Stenlund got that mojo that other guys also feed off of and Domi and Bemi have the charisma of a cold rock. I do think a lot of these guys including Stenlund do not hit the weight room hard enough and contributes to a lot of them not playing up to their body size and getting pushed around too much. Zach werenski is still too damn scrawny and lanky to be a true #1 D man. Seth Jones should have been stronger too. Seriously is training staff even in the budget?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BJ_Lover</b></div><div>Why are you so miserable? Torts was terrible at developing talent. He was great at maximizing grinders but not much else. Give a guy like Domi who came to a new team in the middle of extreme covid restrictions (also a high risk person) a little leash to see what he can really do this year. Bemstrom has also had a solid preseason. Bemstrom was the complete opposite of a guy that Torts was good at utilizing. Give him some reps with a new coach before you throw fits for giving him ice time. The Jackets aren't exactly competing this year so you might as well find out what you have.</div></div>
Domi is a net negative player. More goals will be given up while he is on the ice than he will produce and our backend will not be good enough to bail him out. People keep holding this false hope like Bemstrom gonna have some magical breakout season lmao. I do not share your optimism about either of them. Yeah ill take Stenlund on the 4th line anyday. Stenlund’s problem is he wasn’t a good enough skater to play center, which he was asked to do often last year. Less pressure on him now with the natural build of a winger i like him contributing there with that shot he’s got. He is defensively still an upgrade over the previous 2 clowns. Your faith in Larson is misplaced because guess who was in charge of our trash power play the last few years, yep larson. He did such a good job there that he was promoted to HC lol. This guy is not creative enough and our offense will show that. Liam Foudy will also be a bust because like Bemstrom the Jackets scouts failed to evaluate the mental side of these players. They don’t have the grit or mental tenacity that makes skilled players good at the NHL level. Its not doom and gloom because i think Sillinger and soon Marchenko do have the right stuff. Larson’s offense will be meh.. but he can only do so much. Jarmo fckd up this roster and Laine ain’t resigning.

I just completely disagree with the opening night lineup recently released. Bemstrom and Domi have done nothing to deserve their spots so i took them out. Domi sucks and Bemstrom is a bust. This is a case of Jackets management thinking they were high draft picks or look what they did 2 years ago we need to save face and not admit they are bad. Especially with Domi who we gave Josh Anderson for and can’t score or play solid D to save his life. I subbed in Stenlund as a 4th liner because at least he can bring some physicality to an already undersized roster versus pathetic Domi. Bemstrom can’t bury the puck and doesn’t have any grit on defense at all. He was dominant in the EU league and has shown no sign of a pulse since he got to North America a couple years ago now. He’s had his chances, time to move on

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>Dude, he's already 23. Literally no scouting experts/services think he has as much upside as Dunn, who had already had an outstanding two-way rookie season and helped win a Cup by that age.</div></div>
Yeah already 23 might as well file for social security he’s so old lol. Your not selling anyone with that logic. Prime years for an adult male are somewhere between 26 and 30. Also defensemen take longer to develop than forwards and Peeke still plays with boy strength not man strength which he will have in a couple years and make a big difference, he’s not a warrior yet. 23 is not the same as it was 15 years ago. Young men in general are taking even longer to mature just from a mental standpoint nowadays. No one can claim they know the ceiling of Peeke right now because these weird covid times have adversely affected youth development across the league in a huge way with no offseason stuff. I consider most young players to be almost a year behind where they otherwise would be. GM’s understand these circumstances, so without a full normal season plus offseason with Peeke given a fair chance, no way Jackets are ready to let him go. Not to mention the departure of Savard.

Getting our mojo back

The Monahan trade is decent, but I don't see Jarmo parting with the CBJ 1st in this deal. Maybe the TB or Toronto 1st, but not the CBJ 1st.</div></div>
At first i was worried about the value of Laine. Now i realize depending on who you ask Laine is worth a lot on paper, or very little based on his current production. Let me put it to you this way. Do you care more about superficial values or do you care about winning and solidifying the middle of the ice for the first time in.....ever? I mean when i see the resulting roster we would have, don’t those previous paper values seem quite meaningless?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bdawwwgy1</b></div><div>Monahan has fallen off a cliff. We shouldn't be adding much to domi for him.
Also Monahan and Laine CAN NOT play together, so if the miller trade doesn't happen we would be in a jam there</div></div>
By that same logic Laine has fallen off a cliff. I look at the overall lineup and how solid it looks, especially in the middle of the ice and how much more complete these lines look and think to myself, its worth it. This looks like a roster that wins, whats that worth? Laine is a paper tiger to me and if i have to overpay some superficial values to pry Miller and Monohan and get them on a CBJ roster, i’m ok with it. Plus thats the way most trades work in the real world because most GM’s will shrug and say well its fair value but all things being equal, we’ll just keep him and nothing happens. Also Monohan having a down year during covid, but look at his history of consistent production the last 5 years, I know he’ll bounce back next year when things are normal again

Keep Eichel Lose Ullmark
It would have to be Buffalo’s 2nd and 3rd rounder, not Boston’s. Maybe just your 2nd plus a solid prospect could be close to fair value. Remember 2nd and 3rd rd selections from playoff bound teams is more like actually getting a 3 and a 4. That is not acceptable to Columbus

The team is beginning to take shape
Domi is finally starting to mesh here and turn around is bad start. Most notably he has found a little bit of chemistry with Laine who we are desperate to get going. With our lack of depth at center and no other center coming back the other way there is just no way a 3rd rd pick is enough. Maybe a second plus your top center prospect gets it done. Need a more tangible nhl asset in return. I look at a 3rd rd pick as essentially nothing, almost you getting Domi for free.

Gabriel Carlsson can barely stay in our lineup and mostly been a minor league guy. His biggest issue is his mental compete level. Despite having nice size for a D-Man he has been dissapointing and his battle level is not existent. So i am curious why your interest in him?

All the news i see says he wants out and isn’t that happy. Obviously i read news with a grain of salt but the reports out of Buffalo are glaring. Buffalo has to make hard choices to be competitive again and that probably means giving up a guy you don’t want to. Believe me as a CBJ fan, i know the feeling. Even if the trade is not with Columbus i think you should trade Eichel for other more pressing needs but these two teams can help each other imo.

I think gm’s are nuts to trade for Laine right now, i’ve been watching him all year and don’t know what he is. He looks lost and not a complete player willing to do any work to earn the puck. You don’t gamble on a guy with his salary. I don’t see how he does not deserve a solid paycut next contract

I think Buffalo needs to come back to earth on a price for Eichel and make a deal. Buffalo needs to build from the back. Defense alone will keep you in games, steal wins, and make you more competitive again. Korpisolo, Werenski, Domi, 1st rnd pick. The issue with Laine is i don’t think taking on his salary is what Buffalo needs. Plus the way he is playing and just from a mental standpoint i don’t trust Laine.

Our Russian stud prospect Tarasov will probably jump to #2 next year. CBJ stud goalie factory lol. In all seriousness though we need a more traditional D man that can clear a crease and play more physical like Jones and Savard. We are about to lose Savard. It would allow us to split werenski and Jones up more. Jones or even our youngster Peeke would then be more free to hunt goals. Bear would kind of add to the jumbled mess we have of D guys who don’t play physical enough with Bear being undersized for my liking at 5’11”. We may be stacked at goalie but having 2 or 3 of something doesn't mean we give a discount trading them when Columbus has needs if its own to address. Its gotta be the type of deal where we can help each other out. Think of it this way, if you got a goalie who was a major upgrade over what you have and secured what i think is the most important position in the game for the next 5 years, what is that worth to you? Not asking for a kings ransom but the Jackets need a more immediate impact player in return or maybe a first round pick. Your dumping Koskinen to team that is set at goaltender, we have no need for him at all, so how does that help us

Pass, the value not close, those guys are bottom 6 nobodies to me and CBJ has enough of those guys. Your getting a possible franchise type goalie for the next 4-5 years at least. We will probably trade Elvis but will have higher quality offers. Just from observation i know many teams are interested in him. Why are we giving up a 3rd in top of that? No thanks. Decline, not even remotely interested in the return CBJ is getting back in this deal. Jenner and Elvis are loved here and will be hard to pry away without overpaying since i don’t think CBJ want to trade Jenner at all and i think hes happy here. We would get better offers from other teams that have more players of interest to us. I think its more a mismatch of trade partners and i’m not sure you have the ammunition or willing to give it up, to make it happen. We believe either elvis or korpi can be our franchise goaltender, so that is essentially what a team will be getting when they acquire one of them in our view.
