<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Theozler</b></div><div>I think I’m the only tanev fan on the site lol</div></div>
Lol. I love Tanev!! Great 4th line wing. Great two-way energy guy and chips in scoring some. He had Selke votes the past two-seasons!! That proves right their he is one of the best defensive forwards in the NHL. I’m a fan!!
I just think Lucic fits in with the Pens timeline(really Sid and Geno’s timeline) and would love to see a Lucic/Geno/Rust line for the next 3 years.

IMO Lucic would play well on Geno’s line. He’s that type of player. Fast players usually don’t play well on Geno’s line. See Kessell and Zucker last year. Zucker had 12 points in 15 games with the Pens last year. All 12 came when he was on Sid’s line cause Gentzel was injured. He struggled on Geno’s line.
I would love to see Lucic/Malkin/Rust line. And Zucker has played RW. He is comfortable playing his offside/ weak side(as a left-handed shot).
After Zucker can be “plan B” if Kappy doesn’t work out on Sid/Guentzel line.
ZAR had off season shoulder surgery and out till mid February. Yes, he’s starting the season on LTIR.

Ya, however it would be worked out. He’s not a Center. I’m from pittsburgh and everything I know about him and read about him is that he plays LW and will be a mid 6, bottom 6, LW in the NHL.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Yojimbo</b></div><div>You are just dumping him though. I didn't say hold onto Joseph no matter the return, I said that there is zero reason to include him in this trade.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quote:</div>Bennett is just a former 4th overall pick with potential still. I think Calgary miss uses him just like they did with Janko. </div>
Where he was picked is not relevant as that was in 2014 and there are things called "busts" ever year. Bennett is an NHL caliber player, but he is nothing more than a 4th line banger, but more than a step below Tanev, as Tanev is better defensively and a better skater. He is not misused, he is just not what he was projected to be.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quote:</div> You have to give something up to get something. Like Kappy. A 1st round pick and a “C+”, “B-“ prospect, our 4th-5th best prospect in our system. Like Sprong for Pettersson. Everyone thought that was an overpay at the time too. Sprong was the prospect with all the potential. </div>
Granted, but you are giving up something for nothing. Nothing coming from Calgary in this trade compares to Kapanen. Sprong was a bust when he was traded to Anaheim and anyone that did mot than regurgitate bloggers knew that. Sprong for a 5th would have been good value for the Penguins.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quote:</div> I think Lucic is a good fit on Geno’s line. And fits the timeline of the Pens and Sid, Geno and Letang chasing another cup. I could see the Flames retaining 1M-1.25M for the 3 years left on his contract in this deal though. You are probably right. And Lucic looks a lot better at 4.25M per or 4M per. </div>
You commented on Tanev's term being a negative, but Lucic still has 3 years left and will be older when it ends than Tanev will be when his ends. And again, Tanev's caontract ($ and term) are becasue other teams wanted him too. No one wants Lucic at $5.25M, not even at $4M. The debate about Lucic being good with Malkin is a subject of it's own, but Lucic is slow as mud, and his hands vanished in 2016. I do not know why you think that he would work. Also, the original AGM didn't have any retention, so adding $1.25M retention isn't the same thing. Not enough at all, but not the same thing.
The more that I think about it, the more I think that my two suggestions (Lucic, Bennett, 2nd for Tanev -or- Lucic ($2M ret), Bennett for Tanev) are still bad for the Pens... but Tanev, Joseph, 4th, 5th for them with no retention is simply horrible for the Penguins.</div></div>
Ok, I’m gonna keep writing the same sh*t in different ways. I disagree. Just your opinion. I don’t agree. Fine though!!
It totally matters where a player was drafted though. It’s a part of their value. Even for 4-5 years into the league, when they are still young. Tell any GM, a draft position doesn’t matter..lol. It screams potential and says 31 other GM’s and scouts also believe this guys has talent and can be a valuable player for your organization. And the team used value/resources to acquire that player. They want to get value in return. It does matter.

You've done some "oh boy" AGMs, but this one is probably the biggest. Lucic is HUGE negative value. Potentially the worst in the entire league. Top 3 for sure. Tanev is not even in the ballpark of bad contracts, IF you consider his contract bad (remember that there was a 5 team "bidding war" for Tanev which is why his contract is what it is, and he had a great season last year which would only have increased his value). Tanev, 4th, 5th is still overpay. Before the buyout, Johnson, 4th, 5th was more in line.
There is literally ZERO reason for Joseph to be in that deal.
I do not want Lucic at all, but going with your deal:
Lucic, Bennett, 2nd for Tanev
Lucic ($2M ret), Bennett for Tanev</div></div>
I’m a tanev fan!! Has had Selke votes the last two years. That proves right there he’s a great defensive forward. But his term isn’t great. Long contract. And I just don’t see where PO-Jospeh fits now with Matheson. Not saying we should just dump him. He’s a top 100 prospect, NHL ready.
Bennett is just a former 4th overall pick with potential still. I think Calgary miss uses him just like they did with Janko.

Yes, I think he is a camp dump for them. They would have to assets if they were just trading him and not taking back any significant contracts in return.
I would love to see what this team could do for the next 2-3 years. With Poulin and O’Connor still able to step in for Lucic, McCann or Janko if they struggle.

Laine trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>Yeah, you can believe it is an overpay if you want, but the fact remains it is terrible value for the Jets, files zero long term needs and only serves to make the Jets older and worse.
Rust is a good bottom 6 guy, but at 28 and with only 2 years of term would never be considered a main piece and Pettersson an okay bottom pairing defenseman, but Winnipeg isn't going to trade Laine to fill out the bottom 6 with role players. They're trading an impact player, they would want an impact player back. I understand debating with Pittsburgh homers like the guys above is pointless as they are so biased they can't think realistically.
Anyways, there just isn't the long term piece in that offer that would make Winnipeg give it a second thought.</div></div>
Ok, well that’s your opinion. Obviously u never watched them play. Whether u believe it or not. It’s a fact. Rust is a PPG player and a top 6 on a play-off team. He has done it and proved it. He can do it again. It’s not just potential. He’s not a potential PPG player. Or potential 20 goal scorer. It’s a fact. He’s done it. What you’re saying is opinion. I’m using facts.
Pettersson is a top 4 LHD on a play-off team that can play 20 plus minutes a night. He has done it and proved it. And only 24 years old with more potential. Pettersson/Marino are the Pens future 1st line pairing if they both continue as is or improve.
Say what ever u think, but those are both facts. It’s not potential anymore. They both have done it in the NHL and proved it.

He’s overpaid now that the cap hasn’t increased. If it increased like it was supposed to, it would have been a good contract. 3.5M is a lot now in a flat cap year, and looking like it won’t increase next year either. For a bottom 6, energy guy that chips in scoring a bit. Even with him being great defensively. But in their defense, it was signed with the thought the cap would increase like normal. 3 line spread - lines
After your POwer Play, call for your 3rd line now.
It’s why coaches don’t do that. You expose players to extremely long shifts or missing shifts and playing limited minutes when you should be playing that player a lot more minutes. And why would u want DeBrincat playing 3rd line minutes anyways??
Keep your PP guys on your 1st 2 lines. And PK guys on your bottom 2. Pretty simple coaching rule. It’s why coaches don’t do this. You arnt the 1st one to think of doing it or trying it. It doesn’t turn out well.

Pettersson would be behind Morrissey, Heinola and Samberg and was only in Pittsburgh's top 4 because Pittsburgh has bad defense. Poulin is okay, but as a winger isn't needed by Winnipeg.
Now for the funniest thing in your post. Rust is two years from being a UFA while Laine is an RFA for 3 more years. As an RFA, Laine can't "just walk". He can sit, but it does nothing for him, as he still owes 3 years. Read up a little bit on contracts to get a better understanding.

No thanks from all pens fans!! Lol.
One of Pens strengths is the goalies and not taking up a ton of cap space. DeSmith is a capable NHL back-up!! No need for Raanta. He makes more than Jarry..lol.
And Rust scored a point per game last year. His value has never been higher. We don’t need another bottom 6 winger like C.Fischer. Zucker/Geno/Rust is a perfect 2nd line.
And we trade away our draft picks!! Not accumulate them!! We arnt rebuilding!! We are “win now” for Sid, Geno and Letangs last 3-4 good years!!
I could see then Pens being interested in Garland. Not for Rust though. I would be ok with Garland and Hayton for something like Rust and PO-Joseph and a 2nd round pick from the Pens.

I would rather McCann than Marchessault. Especially with Marchessaults salary and term at 30 years old.
And that puts two smaller wingers on Crosby’s sides.
And Guentzel is a LW. He has the RW eligibility on this site cause he plays the right-side on PP’s sometimes. We don’t have a lot of right-handed shots. Especially on the 1st PP. you can’t just switch his position like that. LW and RW arnt just interchangeable. He’s a left-handed shot.
I would like to see Bennet get a change of scenery though.
