Staal inst a good enough scorer or play-maker for a 2C. Great 3C though. Although 6M per is a lot for a 3C.</div></div>
Staal isn’t our 2C but we don’t have an established 2C to take the risk of trading Staal.

Not only would the Canes not trade Staal at this point, they sure are not retaining on any deal. Staal is too valuable without a bonafide 2C for the Canes to move.

I just think Lucic fits in with the Pens timeline(really Sid and Geno’s timeline) and would love to see a Lucic/Geno/Rust line for the next 3 years.</div></div>
Lucic is a fine player with a horrible salary lol, I’d be fine with him but keep tanev. Pens get pushed around a bit in a playoffs.

They wouldn't have moved Murray and Nutivaara if they had plans to add another LHD, and lose a fan and coach favorite player.
Value is sufficient, but need isn't there. CBJ likely declines.

Laine trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>Lol. No wonder you think this makes sense you don't understand contracts or player skills. Rust ,with the exception of one fluke year as I said, is a bottom 6 player. At 28 he is what he is.
Pettersson would be behind Morrissey, Heinola and Samberg and was only in Pittsburgh's top 4 because Pittsburgh has bad defense. Poulin is okay, but as a winger isn't needed by Winnipeg.
Now for the funniest thing in your post. Rust is two years from being a UFA while Laine is an RFA for 3 more years. As an RFA, Laine can't "just walk". He can sit, but it does nothing for him, as he still owes 3 years. Read up a little bit on contracts to get a better understanding.
Sorry to hurt your feelings, it's just a bad proposal.</div></div>
While I fully admit that Laine is a solid point producer, well, actually a solid goal scorer, you are overdoing the value plays on both sides a bit. He is not a creator. He scores goals. However, it's not like he is Ovechkin at that. The last two years he has been 3rd on the Jets in goals scored, 4th in points. He is good at it, but he is not as much a monster at it as people like to suggest. He is not defensive, he is big but not exactly physical. He is not "the guy" on a line, he needs others. The biggest thing for him is that he will be turning 23 this season, so you would expect things to improve a bit over the next few years from where they are now. But his personality might be a bit of an issue as well.
To me Laine is in the 2nd tier of players, probably towards the bottom of that tier. He is not a superstar (Oechkin, Crosby, etc). He is in that start range of not someone that you build around, but a piece that you get to put around that cornerstone player(s) to prop them up. A very important piece, but a bit over hyped.
Personally, I'd rather pull Connor from the Jets, or even Ehlers. (#1 pick would be Scheifele, but that is not a comparable to Laine) Connor is good offensively, okay defensively, but soft as wet tissue. However, he doesn't require others to make the plays for him. He is kind of like a Kessel with defensive awareness. Ehlers is behind Laine, but he is also considerable cheaper, a better value.
Due to contract and attitude, this is an overpay by the Penguins.

1- No, not among people with a clue it isn't.
2- Barby and Sunny typically switch off C duties on the 4th line. But again, the Blues did win a Cup with Barby centering the 4th line, so I'm not sure why such a thing dooms them.
3- I'm 51, dude. And I actually skated before I walked. You can't just invent things and pretend it's real.

Yea I’ve just come to a point where I don’t even bother arguing with morons anymore lol. Too many egotistical and bullheaded people that don’t want to admit when they are wrong. I just let them think they are right. It’s too tiring listening to them spat their stupidity and uneducated nonsense. Laine would be a great add, but I just don’t see the pens giving up the pieces to acquire him. With the little leverage that WPG has though, they probably don’t get what they really want for him and get forced to settle for less.

Hmm.., so that completely wrong.
And his 1st full year playing the whole season on Malkin’s RW.
2 years of term left is better than Laine’s 1. And a great contract at 3.5M per.
And Pettersson 2nd full season with the Pens last year. 2nd pairing, Pettersson/Marino. 20 minutes a night. Top 4 LHD on a play-off team. Still a lot of potential there. Only his 2nd full season. Played 27 games his 1st year with ANA. And then 2 full seasons with us.
And Poulin would be the 2nd best prospect in the Jets system. Behind Perfetti. Better prospect than Vesalainen and L.Stanley.
Never said Rust was a superstar. Said he was atop 6 RW and scored a point per game last year.
Laine wants out. I hope he sits next year and refuses to play or sign his offer sheet. And walks for nothing. Or Jets have no leverage and get a prospect package and a 1st round pick. Lol. That would be great!!</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PGHBOB69</b></div><div>Hoffman signed with the Blues.
And the offer sheet period for RFA is over. Kunin rights would have to be traded. Or he would have to be let go by Minnesota(I think that’s who he was traded too, Minnesota or Nashville). Or he sits out this season.</div></div>
Kunin was traded to NSH this summer, they own his RFA rights.

Lol. This is the exact problem with this site. A guy has an "average" 5 game stretch during a play in round (really 1 bad game) and everyone says he's terrible and not worth his contract. Lol. He's still over a point per game player, plays defence and plays with heart. Everyone would try to get as much money as they can if they were in his spot (which is was mostly his agent's and dad's fault) so he can't be blamed as much for that either. But people on this site are jokes when they shame a guy like that. I get a good laugh outta every comment like this.
There's so much recency bias it's ridiculous. I look forward to August after Marner has another point per game year and good playoff run at throwing it right back in all your faces. Lmao.

Armia is not what the Pens need, especially for $2.6M. They have physical forwards, they have better defensive forwards. They need faceoff winning 3C, but for W, at $2.6M they need point production. Armia is not that. He gets decent ice time but produces little offense. He is even a bit of offensive black hole on the PP.
He is fine if you already have him, but I'd rather keep Reese and the cap space.

Should the Pens trade for Jack Roslovic
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PGHBOB69</b></div><div>Janko is 26, 1st round pedigree, proven good two-way center and top PK player.
He had 17 goals and 25 points his 1st year and 14 goals and 32 points his 2nd. Yes, last year he sh*t the bed. But it’s an easy year to write off IMO(for everyone..lol) and look at Sam Bennet’s stats. And look at last year compared to his first 3 or 4. It wasn’t just him. It was the whole Calgary team.
Imagine if last year, he improved or just stayed the same statistically. He would’ve been a sought after free agent. The narrative would be completely different. A recent 1st round pick, coming off his E-L contract and 1st team, has had 3 decent years, ready for his 4th year and break-out year. Now, it’s a “show me” contract. Show-me last year was a fluke and you can get back to producing like your 1st two years.
It’s not like he’s played for 3-4 teams and u know what u are getting. He played for 1 team and 3 full seasons, 2 of which were good. It’s only his 2nd team!!
Johnny G went from 99 points to 58 points last season. It was the whole Calgary team. Again, look at Sam Bennett’s stats. Last year he had the same anomaly season as Janko. Only Janko’s 2nd team and 4th season. A different coach, system and change of scenery should do him well!!
And maybe Calgary just missed used him. Again, It’s only his 4th year and 2nd team. You don’t know only playing for 1 team.
And only 700k contract. JR and Sully seem to believe in him and he can atleast get back to his 1st 2 seasons production. I’m interest to see. He will atleast play good defense and be good on the PK.</div></div>
Yes you’re right, a lot of Flames players performed below their usual expectation, so maybe it wasn’t just an issue with him. He did play pretty well the 2 previous seasons, so if he gets back to that form, I’d take it all day.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PGHBOB69</b></div><div>Jets won’t do that deal. And I hate to give up Lafferty. He our only Roght-Handed stick that takes Face-offs. And is good at them too.
I think it would be more like Riikola(who id hate giving up too), and a “C”, “C+”prospect like Gruden or Bjorkqvist. Although, I don’t think they will trade Gruden without playing one game in the organization. And a mid round pick. 5th round
So Riikola, Bjorkqvist and a 5th.
Or
Rikkola, Czuczman, Bjorkqvist(gives them NHL level defensive depth).
It has to come with a contract agreement from Roslovic that would be under 2M IMO. Or it wouldn’t be worth it for the Pens. Paying him over 2M would be an overpayment for me. I would rather Janko at 700k IMO. Roslovic at 1.75M/ 3 years is worth it IMO
And I hate people putting McCann back atCenter. JR and Sully are right. We found out last year. He’s a wing. He’s a scorer. A good two-way wing. Let him play wing and just score 20 plus goals a year. Not have to play Center and worry about carrying a line and play-making for his line-mates. Just stick him on the LW and let him snipe. What he’s good at!!
Don’t rush Poulin. Give him and Legare one more year. Let’s see what Janko and E-Rod can do. Both have a decent pedigree. E-rod was a top college wing on Eichel’s right-side. He had 21 goals and 60 points in 41 games on Eichel’s RW( 2nd in the NCAA in points, behind only Eichel) And never got an opportunity after that. I’m excited to see him get his shot.
I’m hoping Maniscalco wins that 3rd pairing RHD with Matheson more than any other rookie wining a roster spot. Or Legare wins the 3rd line RW spot.</div></div>
And Erod's playdriving statistics & defensive impacts were really good during his 1st two seasons with Buffalo. He's definitely an NHL quality talent, just needs to be given a chance by the coaching staff. The real question mark is Jankowski. You'd usually want a more proven 3C.
