I'm sure that we'd all love to ship DuBois off somewhere so the return is secondary, but as a practical matter, I don't think Blake, Robitaille and Bergevin can admit this mistake and keep their jobs.

Wildcard 2025
Minnesota isn't trading you the 13th overall draft pick in return for two bottom-pairing defensemen and a pick in the late 50's. Don't you think that they'd rather have Greentree or Hage themselves instead of that package? (And that assumes that all of Parekh, Silayev and Yakemchuk and the most highly-rated European forwards are all off the board, too.)

It seems to me that Tkachuk and Kaprizov at LW (as <a href="/users/RazWild" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@RazWild</a> says) is pretty much a wash with Kaprizov at LW and Boldy at RW (as RazWild says), so I don't see this trade as a good idea for Minnesota at all. You guys already know what you have in Rossi and Lambos, whereas you have no idea what will be available at the Boston pick, and he certainly won't be a significant roster player in 2024-2025 as you already know Marco Rossi will be, never mind prime prospect Carson Lambos.

Can we NOT trade for Brady, please.
He's never has been or played a single second of time at RW on his off-hand side for the entirety of his career. He's strictly a LW.
So playing him there is asinine.
Boldy on the other hand IS and always has played RW whenever he wasn't being experimented at center. RW is his NATURAL position.
Furthermore, Boldy is quite literally in the same class of player/tier as Brady, with similar levels of production over the last three years and damn near the same PPG. Brady just hits more. Well good for him. BOLDY COSTS $1.2M LESS, FOR TWO YEARS LONGER.
Even if this were to happen. That's not a trade I'd consider, as it'd strictly be a 1v1, so throwing BOTH Lambos AND Rossi into the deal for a VERY late 1st is questionable at best.
We're much much better off keeping both Boldy and Rossi, and their combined future production, than packaging them in a gross overpay for a player we neither need or should want over what we already have.

The Sharks deal is just Top-10 protection on the pick from the Karlsson deal. As for the canes I agree they would decline but if Pitt is willing to retain half on Karlsson they will certainly have buyers.

The competition part is a fair thought, but we have seen it work with the Bruins. Albeit there is a little bit of a special relationship between Ulmark and Sway. I would say you let those to run things for a year, and if it still seems like there is that unhealthy competition you mention then you can trade Gus. It might be nice for Wally to get to play with another Swede too.

Gus arguably isn't better than Freddie. We know Freddie's coming back now, it probably means short of a true starting goalie (which I wouldn't say Gus is right now) Carolina probably are not interested

Love all of these accept the Gus one. He still is young and has potential to be a really solid goalie in this league. We have him locked up on a pretty fair contract for the nest few years. Trading him now is not the answer.

Lafreniere
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GreatWhiteNorth</b></div><div>Lafrenière will cost no where near a 1st plus a A prospect. He’d be lucky to get a 1st in return at this point. Something similar to what Nail Yakupov got Edmonton is a fair comparison.</div></div>
He absolutely does.
1) Lafreniere is hardly Yakupov.
2) He's only 22. There's still plenty of time for him to break out.
3) It's incredibly hard to produce top-six production from a 3rd line role. Which is where he's been stuck since he entered the league. Under two different coaches, now three, and has yet to have any consistent time in NY's top-six. That kinda matters.
In fact, this is literally the first year that he's had either the opportunity to seize a top-six role or will be utilized in one regularly. He's otherwise been blocked from the role to date.
It's incredibly early to be calling him a bust.
4) A former 1st overall pick who is still under 23 years old is still going to command a hefty acquisition price regardless of their production or development. Because that potential upside and talent is still going to be there. Especially when that player HAS shown flashes of the skillset that got them picked 1st overall in the first place even in the NHL.
At this point Laf needs either one if two things.
1) To be given a top-six role, and let him sink or swim no matter what over the course of an entire season.
Or 2) Be given a fresh start somewhere else.

Minnesota's cap situation precludes their trading away a middle-6 center on a cheap contract and the idea that the Wild, who have more than $14.7 million in dead cap this season, would retain on him or trade a minimum-contract player like Pat Maroon is just nuts.

Any Wild trade has to at least be dollar in, dollar out. A 3rd isn't worth the extra juggling they'd need to do to fit the extra cap in for a different bottom 6 forward. No thanks.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OutCold13</b></div><div>I'm guessing there was a good talk between Addison, Guerin, and Dean to clear the air and talk about how to move forward.</div></div>
More then likely. It has to mean something given that Addison, like Rossi, is spending the offseason here in Minnesota working with the Wild's staff.
Given that, I'm guessing Guerin and Co are probably just waiting him out to see if he can pull it off and get to where they want him to be. If not, well, there's no harm him moving him next year to a team that could take a chance on his offensive game.

It's a good question. I don't think we really know. All spring long the narrative from our beat reporter(s) was that Guerin was likely to deal him at or around the draft. Now, as of yesterday, we were told the defense is "set" and that he's likely not being traded. So who knows.
If I had to speculate, and this is completely just my own opinion, Guerin didn't get his asking price so he's pivoting to re-signing and seeing if he can run PP1. But I wouldn't' be shocked if he moved him, if the right offer came along.
What is Guerin willing to take vs. what is the market willing to pay? That overlap may not be as big as we all kinda assumed...?

Next season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MakingHistory</b></div><div>Cap hell for them next 3 years</div></div>
First of all, the Parise/Suter buyouts drop $13 million three seasons from now, so the pressure exists for the next 2 seasons only.
Second, moving Marcus Foligno's contract this off-season cures all of their cap problem for the coming year. Failing that, trading Alex Goligoski would probably suffice. Even just buying Goligoski out might work. It all depends on what Filip Gustavsson's new contract costs them. In short, giving Matt Boldy away isn't the solution.
