Flyers take that deal in a heartbeat, and then hang up before the Flames come to their senses and take the trade back.

Oilers Cup Run
You don't need to trade Koekkoek, as with him taking a leave for his mental health, he qualifies for LTIR and his cap hit goes away. Might as well keep that pick.

Leafs Lines
Engvall is going to miss training camp and pre-season, but will be available for the first game of the season, meaning he won't be on LTIR and this team is over the cap. Also, Sandin won't sign for that cheap, otherwise it would be done by now.

The rebuild part 1
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>justaBoss</b></div><div>But by the same token he also has more cap, and with the market having an extreme importance towards cap space if might cost them more.
I think they have harder time filling the hole moving Kerfoot creates given that he is better player of the two.</div></div>
Kerfoot leaving could be filled in several ways. On the second line they have Malgin, Robertson, and later in the season Knies that can slot in there. Then by moving Kerfoot they can sign both Sandin and possibly Aston-Reese, who can be used to fill Kerfoot's role on the PK.
Since he's owed $700k for the entire year, a team like Arizona or Buffalo would most likely take him, and then flip him for assets at the deadline.

The rebuild part 1
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>justaBoss</b></div><div>I dunno about desperate, but the fact is they're over the cap even without re-signing Sandin, so someone needs to go. Holl is the most likely option in my opinion given the amount of D-men they already have.</div></div>
The most likely trade will be Kerfoot. He has more value, is owed less money, and clears more cap space for them.

The rebuild part 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SMH</b></div><div>Habs ain't paying even half of that for PLD</div></div>
Apparently the almost completed trade during the draft was Dvorak, Evans, and a 1st for PLD. It got held up because the Jets wanted one more player to be added that MTL wouldn't give up (rumors are it was Petry, but that's never actually been confirmed). With that being said, the trade proposal isn't that far off from where they were at the draft.

Toronto won't make that trade. They have Woll and Kallgren in the AHL who can both step up next year in the backup role if the need is there.

The rebuild part 1
Toronto won't make that trade. I know a lot of talk has been made about how the leafs desperately want to get rid of him, but for now there is no better option. Moving him doesn't give them enough space to sign Sandin, and without Holl or Sandin, the right side looks very weak.

how good do they do
Toronto won't retain on Kerfoot, they need all the cap space. And they especially won't retain when the return in a 4th round pick.

TDL If Weegar Signs Extension with Flames
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Yeah he was forced to play right side as a depth defenseman on other teams and he was relatively ineffective on those teams outside of hits. In Calgary he's played exclusively LD and have been quite effective there (though I think he learned and improved a lot under Sutter).
Calgary is very strong at Right handed Defense depth, but as stated before Weegar has played almost exclusively LD the last 3 years (except for when Ekblad was hurt). As a Canucks fan you should understand the pain of what it was like when Tanev got injured. Weegar at least provides support there and Kylington can always jump back in to a top 4 role.
As for Toronto they really arent as strong up front on the wing as you make them out to be and their d-core is very good too.
Overall this is just poor asset management by the Flames if they are trying to push for a cup, being one of the like 7-8playoff teams that can actually accrue a relevant amount of cap space this year for a big deadline add they are far better off trading futures for a big fish than a core player</div></div>
Point well made, you have officially won me over in your argument :)

The Quest for Defense
The thing about CBJ defenseman is that although it looks weak right now, they have one of the best dman prospect pools in the league. They have Jiricek, Mateychuk, Christiansen, and Ceulmans who all look really solid. Give it another season or two, and CBJ will look amazing on the back end.

TDL If Weegar Signs Extension with Flames
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Calgary isn't trading Tanev lol, Weegar has played LD for 3 seasons straight, he is more than confortable playing there. Not sure where you got the idea Zadorov was more comfortable on the right side when he doesnt play RD at all, or that he would ever be above Tanve - the best shutdown defenseman in the league - in the depths chart</div></div>
Zadorov has played over half his games throughout his career on the right side. And I agree Tanev is an amazing player (I am a canucks fan lol), I just thought it was a way for both Toronto and Calgary to improve a somewhat weaker area by dealing from a position of strength.
Calgary is very strong on RD, so they deal to improve in a somewhat weaker area, their top 9 wingers.

The Sens don't need another top 9 forward, they are already set in that department. I think Pearson could be dealt for that kind of return, just to a different team

dipetro
Canucks won't do this. The plan for DiPietro is the same they used for Schneider, Lack, and Demko in the past...He'll play in the minors while splitting time with a more veteran player (that's why they signed Delia for this season). Then when he's 24-25 years old he will play as backup to Demko while the slowly build up his skills until he is good enough to become a regular in the NHL.
They won't be giving up on him for such a little return right now, his value to them is way more than they would get in a trade.

Sandin won't sign for that much, or else it would already be done. He's looking for 2.5mil+.
ZAR won't sign for that low. You could probably get him for 1mil. though.
Also, burying Holl is a terrible solution, as its a waste of an asset, and the amount you save is not enough. They need to trade someone to make the cap work (most likely Kerfoot or Holl).

He's averaged over 20 mins per game every season for over a decade, including last year. He's still a decently effective shut down dman.

Simple Patchwork for D Core
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>I thought I was going to see a Connor Murphy trade.
It's not worth it for Ottawa at this stage (since they don't know if they will even make it to the playoffs) to add assets to move Zaitsev's contract unless they are getting a player. I think that's why Dorion is trying to get Chychrun who's price is high and move Zaitsev in the same move. He's probably hoping to find a trade that would be the combination of a reasonable Chychrun ask + a reasonable Zaitsev dump.</div></div>
I get that completely. I was coming at this from the perspective they need to sell DeBrincat on the team so he will sign long term. The only way I feel they can do that is by having a steady enough d core to help them succeed. Even if they don't make the playoffs, this would allow the team to at least be in the fight for a spot, and will hopefully get DeBrincat to stay.
I feel any deal for Chychrun won't happen until the trade deadline, and by then it may be too late for the Sens.

Sure, we'll trade you a ppg centreman, retain some money, and add on a first on top of that to take back a goalie who may never play again.
I don't know why the Leafs would ever consider doing this, it makes their team significantly worse.

I wouldn't say he's awful, just slightly overpaid. He's definitely a better defensive and utility player than Pearson, but they are fairly equal offensively.
