That's what was mentioned during the draft as to why he dropped to 21st. I guess I haven't been keeping up to see if new issues are arising or if he's finally matured and it's just the old ones he's trying to shake. Evander Kane used to be labeled serious locker room issues for a while too, but he seems to have pointed those towards the refs instead... ;)

Anaheim Ducks signed Benoit-Olivier Groulx (3 Years / $910,833 AAV)
I have high hopes for this young fellow. I think he might well become a top-6 forward playing in a third-line role a few years down the road. Zegras, Lundestrom, Steel, now Groulx -- Ducks are set at center for the future.

Selling
LA looks terrible, no matter who will they trade. First, they should get rid of Quick, but doubt, that anyone would want him after last season. I'm Kings fan and realistically, we need wait for three seasons, to the end of contracts Kovalchuk, Brown and Carter. Hope they will end their careers, or go elsewhere and really start building fresh young team.

Lines when healthy your thoughts LA
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PuckLuck_77</b></div><div>I like your lines more than I like the OP's lines. But I think you said a couple of things incorrectly. First of all, Forbort isn't a "career ECHLer". It's absolutely criminal that he plays with Drew Doughty for sure, but Derek Forbort would be a SOLID 5/6th defenseman on many teams, including the Kings. He can eat tons of minutes, has a great stick, and can kill penalties. Those are qualities plenty of teams are looking for. It's not his fault that he's been placed in a position where the Kings have had no organizational depth after the loss of Muzzin.
Second, I personally prefer Walker over MacDermid. BicMac hasn't shown enough at the NHL level to warrant anything more than a 7th defenseman spot. He's big and can throw down, for sure, but more often than not he's a defensive liability out there because of his poor passing, poor skating, and below average hockey IQ. I would love for him to turn into a poor man's Dustin Byfuglien, but it's not gonna happen.</div></div>
MacDermid hasn't been given a solid chance. He has improved a lot this preseason and deserves 50 straight games a real shot to prove himself. If he can get a little quicker he could be a serious and scary shut down dman.
Idk if you watch every Kings game like I do, but Forbort is complete trash. There is nothing solid about him in any role. He is constantly making mistakes in the defensive end and Doughty always has to try and bail him out. Any time I did see him doing something solid he turns around does something dumb. Maybe career AHLer is more generous.
Walker hasn't done anything worth keeping him in the lineup. He doesn't do anything and he has 39 games under his belt. It's time to give that spot to someone else.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bf3351</b></div><div>Not bad. Kopitar and Vilardi will probably never be on the same line, they almost have the exact game. I am hoping Forbort is traded in the beginning of this season. If Bjornfot continues to impress and they decide to keep him on the team that might make a strong case for Forbort getting traded and quite honestly anyone is an improvement on Forbort, he is a career ECHLer.
It will probably look like this assuming what I stated above is accurate:
Iafallo Kopitar Brown
Kovalchuk Vilardi Carter(or Vilardi and Carter swapped)
Grundstrom Kempe Toffoli
Clifford Lewis Wagner
Bjornfot Doughty
Martinez Roy
Hutton MacDermid</div></div>

That's an incredibly embarrassing DeBrincat trade.
And even with these two moves, Kings aren't better than the Flames, Knights, Sharks and Coyotes. They'd be lucky to get a wild card spot and if they don't, you've given up a lottery pick and don't draft until the afternoon on the second day.

What if instead of Toffoli you gave us Turcotte and instead of those other picks you gave us a 1st? Because that's what it would take to get DeBrincat. Maybe not fair value, but you can't have him for less.

Helping the Pens cap situation
Why would the Kings do this? They're rebuilding, they don't need a 27 year old 3C and a boat anchor on defense. Kovalchuk isn't great, but his contract isn't really hurting anything right now. The Kings aren't going to be a cap team for several years.
So the Kings essentially are paying $6¼ million for 2 years of Bjugstad and taking on 4 (!) years of Johnson just to get rid of Kovalchuk? Not going to happen.
Change Bjugstad to Hallander and add a 1st round pick, or drop the salary retention and downgrade the pick to a 2nd and the Kings might consider it.

1 year turnaround
Almost none of those deals makes sense
Detroit laughs in your face. Why is a team that hasn't made the playoffs in years trading a pair of good young players and 2 firsts for a 30 year old? It just doesn't make sense
Arizona says no. How much better is Kopitar than an 8 or so year younger Schmaltz signed for half the cap? I assure you the difference is less than Dvorak, let alone Dvorak and a 1st and a 3rd
So New Jersey has one of the best American goalies from 5 years ago who sucks now and their solution is to pay a first and a good young c to get another one? I believe quick had the worst save percentage for a starter league wide last year. You're likely to being paying someone to get rid of him
Carter is past his prime and breaking down. You'll have to pay someone to take his contract.
Brown is overpaid and well past his prime. You'll have to pay someone to take his contract.
Kovi is not going to get you someone as good as Bjorkstrand. If you retain half of kovi's contract maybe he does.

Your wings deal is not. Lose. Why would a rebuilding team trade 2 players who have a future with the club and two probably high picks to take on Doughty. Makes zero sense from Wings perspective.

I turned the game off 5 minutes into the 2nd. Good thing I did. Losing by 3 goals was enough for me. Quick was actually dog **** and that was not good to see that. I didn't see the rest of the goals but until I turned it off all those goals were Quicks fault. He could have saved them. Everyone has a rough night but this is the 2nd game in a row he has let 5 or more goals in. I never thought I'd say this, but Campbell is the better goalie right now. And he wasn't even great either. It might be time to roll 3 goalies and put Petersen in if these guys keep letting in multiple goals every night.
I think they need to play MacDermid more. I know he is slow, but teams truly fear him. They know who he is and what he does.
Also if you think our defense is bad now, wait until they put Forbort back in?</div></div>
Quick was awful, Kempe's line was minus 10 (Adrian was minus 4), Kopitar's line was invisible, and only Lizotte's line looked like they were proud to be in the NHL. Hutton and Walker were okay.

Also, I'm a little surprised to see the 3rd D pairing is still Larsson + MDZ. I figured after last game either player could get swapped for Holzer</div></div>
I’m hoping to see Comtois as well. I know part of the call up was because the Gulls don’t play again till Friday. But one game would be nice since it’s been almost a year since we’ve seen him in action.
I think Holzer really left a bad taste in Eakins mouth. MDZ may have to really bomb to get replaced. Though I also think it’s entirely possible Holzer gets slotted without skating with Larsson today.
