I'm guilty of such a take. The phrase being something like: the difference in value between Smith and Hughes is less than a 1st rd pick.
Of course everyone has a few bad or poorly aged takes and I'm sure that also goes for <a href="/users/NV94" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@NV94</a> no matter how much he tries to put himself above other fellow CapFriendly users.

Why in the hell would the devils willingly retain 2mil on a player they just extended for 8 years? And y’all still don’t think that’s enough. I don’t want Quinn to begin with but y’all are clowns for real.</div></div>
Because Quinn outscored Meier as a dman lmfao this is no where near close enough for a dman like Quinn, wingers like Meier are a dime a dozen in the league. Not many dmen in the leauge lime Quinn there's abouslety no reason for Vancouver to do this

Do you think the Nucks have to cap dump someone? If so who do you think they should dump? I’m particular interested in a discussion about forwards. I think Myers’s & OEL have outlived their usefulness. Not trying to offend just being honest.</div></div>
If we want to upgrade our roster we will have to dump Myers for sure, I think mostly Vancouver's cap issues are a bit overblown i really only see Myers and OEL as the two problem contracts in Vancouver imho

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HAWKS2025</b></div><div>Canucks desperately need to get cap space and I think Tocchet won't want to lose Garland, and Myers is a tougher sell until the deadline IMO. OEL is a non-starter for any team in the league; they're stuck with him unless they do a buyout, which their owner will not do. In this proposed deal, Canucks only drop 8 spots, yet pick up a 2nd round pick, which they currently don't have in a great draft, and pick up $6.65M in space. They also get a RD prospect, which they need, who doesn't fit any longer in Chicago. Hawks can stay put at 19 and get their guy anyway, but would take on Boeser's overpay to help make the cap floor and make sure they get who they like at 11.</div></div>
it shouldn't take that much to move Myers on his own, giving us the cap space to upgrade our roster, This deal just doesn't make sense for Vancouver we aren't moving a quality winger in Boeser to move down in a deep draft.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>squashmaple</b></div><div>At first glance, the Vancouver trade doesn't make sense for either side. But both sides have troublesome contracts the teams would probably like to get out from under. I'm sure there's buyer's remorse on the Miller deal already. Take Elvis and Miller out and that's a vastly more than fair offer for Demko. Elvis has many less years left compared to Miller and was a very good goalie before he suffered a massive personal tragedy right in front of him. In the end, I think it balances out in terms of value but I don't think either team would be remotely motivated to pursue it.</div></div>
VAN won't trade Demko unless there's a 1st or Johnson involved.

I see you're new here, so welcome to you. You may wish to make trades that have some connection to reality, which is the thing where the Blues stop taking your calls for that "offer". :tearsofjoy Kyrou is not available, and the two players you sent over are of less than no interest, thanks.

Keeping Pettersson IS important, so you want them to basically trade his best friend Quinn Hughes? Pettersson is getting around 11 mil. Canucks are not going to trade Hughes to make room for Hughes. They can literally trade anybody else.... Poor logic, poor execution. If you are going to troll, at least put some effort into it

Yeah except Hughes is younger, not on an expiring contract, plays a more important position, and is outproducing Meier as a defenseman. Hughes is literally has more points than Meier this season... Let's also not forget that the Canucks have 0 reason to even consider shopping Hughes.

You're trading a player that you aren't using for picks and another player you wont use, but if you do, is basically the same player. Easy trade to accept for Buffalo...

Vancouver Penguins
Here's the problem I see with all of the recent hourly Thatcher-Demko-to-Los-Angeles trade ideas:
Demko was horrible this year, almost undoubtedly due to his injury. When he returns from rehabbing that injury, and plays the last third of the season, one of two things will happen:
1. Either he will display his earlier form, in which case why would Vancouver trade him; or
2. He will not show any improvement, in which case why would Los Angeles want him?
Vancouver fans need to stop dreaming that the Kings will trade Cal Petersen with substantial assets for Thatcher Demko anytime soon. We will all have to wait until draft day to see what the respective values of the two goalies are.

Even if the Canucks thought that little of garland (they don’t) there is simply no way they are retaining that much money for 3 more seasons after this one. Even Buying garland out would be far preferable to this

Vancouver is beginning a rebuild, and you don't rebuild by giving away a top-6 forward for a third-round draft pick and an Unrestricted Free Agent. For that package, you'd be lucky to get Travis Dermott back; the Canucks would probably give you Dakota Joshua as a cap-friendly move.
Garland is their seventh-highest scoring forward, and with two of the guys ahead of him on the table being Boeser and Horvat, it's highly likely that Garland will ascend in the ranks next season.

Tomasino is a high end prospect and fits in the age range of NHL ready players they are looking for. Fabbro also fits the age range basically swapping LHD for RHD. I'd be quite content with that return from a Canucks perspective.

The deadline move
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NV94</b></div><div>Patches and Boeser are much different situation. Patches was aging and injured and may have Ben unlikely to play. Boeser is 25 and tho he has injury history he’s not in danger of never playing again. Plus Canucks don’t HAVE to move him.
I agree he’s probably going to fetch much less than he’s worth but I don’t think they’re going to have to pay to get rid of him like some suggest.
As for the trade I think that’s a bit much to retain for Boeser but I do like the trade.</div></div>
I believe the writer was going for a bit of dramatic flare.
No reason I can't see him getting close to Viktor Arvidsson got (2nd and 3rd) if they got AAV into mid $4's.
Arvidsson was coming of 0.5 ppg season, he worst since his rookie year. Still had 3 x $4.25m left.
At the full $6.65m, probably just a single pick.
