My take on what Stevie should do
Detroit declines the Seattle trade, not giving away players for free.
Pettersson is a much better choice from PIT.

I like how the roster looks and you did good job with the Cap space as well. Fabbri is a tricky one. You could get much more value for him in the future, but he is always hurt:( .
I don´t know if it would just be smarter to keep him and hope he stays healthy. Players like Fabbri has a lot of value at the trade deadline.
Nitpicking, but i would sign Hellberg rather than Aaron Dell. I´ve heard Hellberg is the nicest guy ever and he could be a good mentor for all the young Swedes.

My take on what Stevie should do
If I'm being a little nit-picky I'd say I don't like Ras or Veleno on the 4th line. I hope they can perform better than that.
Being extremely nit-picky I'd say the cap floor is $576,944 higher than this team hits.
I think LD could use some improvement with Ed & Walman.
I hope Edvinsson can make the team and be a stud but he's young and has no nhl experience.
Other than that I do like this team on paper especially if Edv can be a solid 2D NHLer.
I hope Trocheck or another proven 2C has interest in signing in Detroit.
Thank you. I hope you have a nice day as well.

If he retires
Ceci was clearly playing as a top4 all last year.
Skinner is lost to waivers here. That's your potential young starting goalie gone for nothing.
Yamamoto hasn't earned a 4.5M contract especially at 5 year term.
Kane wants more then that.
No room for call ups. 1 injury away from disaster.

How I view the value on all of these guys
Some comments, too long to do them all
Sokolov, Egor : still a prospect, even guys like Stutzle, Norris and Batherson, there would be no point trading them so hard to say what would be their value. Don't think they'd trade Sokolov for a 2nd and 3rd, for example. Can't rebuild a rebuild
Brown, Connor : I would need more than a "late first"
Sabourin, Scott : absolutely no value
Tierney, Chris : a 3rd and a 4th MAYBE with 50% retention
Paul, Nicholas : I'd want a Goodrow to TB return
Zaitsev, Nikita : would need more than a 3rd for a team to accept. Only trade that would make sense is a change of scenery deal, 2 guys who are considered a bit overpaid but could fit better on their new team.
Zub, Artem : he is worth WAY WAY more than a 2nd
Gustavsson, Filip : true that goalies have less value than skaters but the Sens would be crazy to trade him for a late 2nd. That's why it won't happen
White, Colin : with 1.25 retention (would make his contract 3 years x 3.5) yes. Zero retention, you'd have to take salary back.
Pinto, Shane : "a mid first" for this guy would be insanity and Dorion should be canned on the spot for making that deal (not that he didn't make outrageously bad deals before)

How I view the value on all of these guys
First of all, I like Wayne Glenzky. Probably the best player in the league! Now, I feel like you are overvaluing your players a tad. I don’t think you would get 2 seconds for Formenton. Maybe one late second. Brown would be a second and a third. Sokolov may be a second…. It’s hard to tell for him. For Tierney, I wouldn’t give you more than a fourth round pick. Paul could be a first if he is going to a contending team, but probably just a second if he is not going to a contending team that likes to trade first round picks. Braanstrom would be a late first in my opinion. Still a good prospect, just has not proven to be worth more. White, I think would be a second. Pinto again, would be a late first. That’s just my opinion. Most of them are pretty good, I just think you are saying a first round pick too much for some players that are not worth it.

How I view the value on all of these guys
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xspyrit</b></div><div>1) I would never trade Alex Formenton for 2 seconds. Yes he's still not highly impactful at the NHL level yet but he has almost McDavid speed. That skill is elite and very very valuable. He scored 27 goals, 53 pts in 61 games in his 20 y/o AHL rookie season for a reason. He will be a pretty nice luxury support player, he just turned 22 y/o. Trading that for two 2nds would be stupid.
2) Brown as in Connor Brown? A 2nd and a 3rd? that would be turned down right away. Think more Blake Coleman return... Brown has one of the best veteran AAVs in the whole league, a total bargain at that price and a quintessential player. I actually have something prepared that I just copy/paste everytime Brown is underrated. It was before this season of course.
- Among Brown's 19:17 TOI/GP in Ottawa, 2:45 were on the PK and only 1:32 on the PP. His overall dZS% has been 62.6% which is extremely high. Simply put, he is mostly used as a shutdown forward or on a matchup line.
- Despite this defensive usage, he has been 61st for Even Strenght Points among NHL players since 2019-20 (not including 2021-22 yet). Look at the names around him on that list, they aren't all as good overall :
http://www.nhl.com/stats/skaters?reportType=season&seasonFrom=20192020&seasonTo=20202021&gameType=2&filter=gamesPlayed,gte,1&sort=evPoints&page=1&pageSize=50
Facts summary :
- He has scored at a 24 goals/50 pts pace in Ottawa (127 GP)
- He was 2nd in takeaways last season (behind Mark Stone of course)
- He received Selke votes (17th)
- Total beast on the PK : routinely gets more scoring chances than the opposition
- used heavily in a defensive deployment (34.0 oZS% vs 66.0 dZS%) but still provides good offense
His speed, non-stop motor and flawless work ethic is a beautiful thing to watch. With only a 3.6 AAV for 2 more seasons... way too valuable for Ottawa and they love him a lot. Any team who has Brown should use him in a similar way that Ottawa has been
3) Disagree with White, don't think he could return a second, unless like I said in my post above, you retain on his AAV
4) Pinto for a late first would be Dorion's dumbest move as Ottawa GM and we're talking about a guy that traded 23 y/o Mika Zibanejad and a 2nd for 28 y/o Derick Brassard... or a 2nd to get Derek Stepan's corpse (and his 6.5 AAV). Pinto is an absolute beauty, you don't touch that just like Batherson and Sanderson.
5) Agreed with the rest (Sokolov, Tierney, Paul, Brannstrom)
This is the players the OP said "first round pick"
Tkachuk, Brady
Norris, Joshua
Stützle, Tim
Brown, Connor
Chabot, Thomas
Brännström, Erik
Pinto, Shane
Everyone here is easily worth AT LEAST one first round pick except maybe Brannstrom because his usage is making his value plummet right now (Dorion has no idea how to manage assets)</div></div>
Thanks for your comment! Brown is good, but I don’t think he gets a first unless it’s from a contending team that really wants him to push them over the edge. I never said it would be smart to trade these guys.. I was just giving my thoughts. Is Pinto really that good though.. like he has been good, but he hasn’t proven himself in the NHL.

No worries
For Pinto, he has only played 16 games as a 20 y/o and seriously impressed so far, on both sides of the puck. He is a blue chip prospect and 2nd t only Jake Sanderson, he probably will never see the AHL and his absence has been felt a lot more than it should for a rookie. The team record with and without him in the lineup since last season is actually quite funny
As for Connor Brown, I think you are severely underestimating him. You probably didn't read the facts above but the guy didn't get Selke votes by chance, or wasn't 61st in Even Strength scoring by luck too. And compared to many of the players ahead on that list, he gets heavy defensive zone deployment (like 65% vs 35%)
This guy is crazy underrated. No reason that he wouldn't return at least what Blake Coleman did. Brown has been actually more productive than Coleman was in NJ

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nhl_oilers</b></div><div>I didn’t know that about Pinto, thanks! As for Brown. I did read what you said about him. I agree that he would fetch a first from a contender, but if the team is in the wild card spot, I don’t see it. He is very underrated, and I would love to have him on the oilers… he would look nice on a lot of the teams. Maybe I’m undervaluing him which is possible… I don’t think he would get exactly what Coleman got, because the only reason why New Jersey got Foote was because we were offering our first round pick which was better than Tampa’s.</div></div>
Agree to disagree on Brown's value but I'm pretty sure there would be a competitive bidding war if he was available.
Connor Brown probably won't be traded anyway, he makes only 4.0 (salary) next year again which is very valuable for the Sens owner. He doesn't trade bargain contracts, he trades FOR them and even give picks if necessary (i.e. he's ready to SELL picks if it saves money, ex : Brassard trade)
If Brown is traded, it would most likely be next year trade deadline and it would mean that the Sens are not in the playoffs hunt. If they are, then Brown won't be traded and most likely extended instead. Sens need MORE players like Connor Brown : solid veterans who aren't overpaid
One of the main problems on the team right now is that there's just not enough quality veterans, like not even close. Trading Connor Brown would be downright stupid

Based for putting Saros top 5, definitely agree.
The only issue I really see is Bernier right below Greiss, I’d say Bernier is definitely better, but Greiss may perform better as a backup if I’m being honest. Bernier only seemed to get better in Detroit when he became the starter, so it’s possible he regresses as a backup.
