<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_92</b></div><div>lol. That’s not how they go…

The team usually approaches the player and says something similar to “hey look, we’re looking at moving you and think it’s best for both sides for a different look. Think about it and give us a list of teams you’d waive for” &amp; generally players concede to that. Players don’t wanna play for a team that doesn’t want them. &amp; Seattle isn’t a bad fit for Marner - it’s an up and coming team that needs a go to offensive catalyst and it’s a tax free state. Both could be intriguing to Marner.

But this idea on this site of players with NMC never waiving is just ridiculous. Players don’t get NMC to never be traded - they get it so that they control where and when they are dealt. If you think that just because Marner grew up a Leafs fan that he’s never waive then you’d be wrong. It’s a business first, game second.</div></div>

There are a lot more John Tavares,Steven Stamkos, players who get it for that exact reason compared to Phil the hot dog man who waives. We just never here about them refusing or rarely do anyway because teams don't want that getting out. Neither really does the player. He's not getting anymore money leaving and he has to acrue the moving costs and uprooting his wife if he's married yada yada .
The original NMC was Vinny LeCavelier after TBs previous ownership screwed Dan Boyle over he gave a hometown discount then they told him either accept the trade to SJ or we'll waive you and you got no say where you're going. So, yes they often have that purpose in mind.
