I don’t think he’s quite worth 8x7 though. Maybe 6x6.</div></div>
I dont think he would want Landeskog money but he will take the discount, i think maybe longer contract with lower AAV

Kubalik
It would have to be overpayment, his play and production is top 6 with middle 6 TOI, not to mention he will still be RFA after this contract and he is expansion draft exempt. There is no reason for Chicago to trade him for market value, unless they use him to get assests they want.

This might end up the way Martin Jones and his contract ended up - few great years and since he got new contract, it has been skyfall.

Player can easily have negative value for his team, bad stats (too many penalties and not for fights), being on the roster instead of some developing youngster, even just having the player on the team knowing you could trade him 3 years ago and get back 2nd round pick, but trade him know and you will will have to pay the 2nd rounder yourself to get rid of him.

I mean if Goodrow got late 1st, then Labanc can get that too, but i think Meier would go for better pick and worse prospect and Labanc prospect and maybe some 5th/6th rounder, but the overall value might be around late 1st.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lenny7</b></div><div>Burnsie's negative value is *because* of the length of the contract. There are at least 20 teams that are going to be looking to shed a bad contract to Seattle, and they'll be compensated handily for taking the ones that they choose. I don't think Gambrell+3rd even gets Seattle to answer the phone.</div></div>
That might be right but in my eyes he still brings value as a player whereas Neal, Lucic or Vlasic have no or negative value as players and their contracts are negative too. Also I doubt Seattle builds team of bottom six players, they will take big names too and SJS fans can hope it will be Burns

Decent 3rd pair guy</div></div>
No i meant in general, that they shouldnt trade for players and give up first if somehow next season is SJS competitive again. Burns could get back some nice pieces if traded imo. I think his contract is just fair, maybe bit too long, but money is good, this is the price you pay for almost ppg in last few years Norris trophy winner.
Ok thanks for the info.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>A new coach? That clearly wasn't the issue.
Team is in financial trouble because they have so much money locked up in such a few amount of players. Like the leafs with their forwards (AM, Marner, Tavares), Sharks have 26.5M locked up on just 3 defense for the next 6 years. That's 33% right now, and only goes down to probably 32% next year. Not to mention Couture, Kane, and Meier (I still think the Meier contract is fine though) making a combined total of 21M for another 4 years. Jones has basically fallen off a cliff so a new goalie should be the main target atm (that or getting into the first round of the draft). The team needs to retool, might take 1 year or 2. Sell some assets not named Meier or Hertl and build around them as the core. Take advantage of the expansion, offer to leave Burns unprotected in exchange for a first or something (Seattle should surely bite at this, and relieves a lot of cap). Build around Merkley and Roy on the right side instead.</div></div>
Since you mentioned Roy, what is his situation? He had some injury history and it looked like he was never gonna hit NHL some time ago, this changed? Otherwise I agree, until expansion draft, they can try to win, but not for every cost, they should keep their 1sts because the rebuild is inevitable.
I dont watch much game so I dont know what to say about Boughner, what I noticed most is how Dell improved (is Nabokov now practising with goalies?). I know that Gallant or Babcock are available but dont know whether they can make this team better.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BurgerBoss</b></div><div>Unlikely. Still I think Thornton will carry more value via trade than Zacha or Namestnikov. Teams tend to pay up for former success and experience. Nash to BOS trade was a good example of that.</div></div>
Yeah, Nash was 34 years old, Thornton is 40 and had serious knee injury not that long ago (but it seems he is OK hopefully), plus playing winger and center is not really the same business. My point is that I think it is unlikely that somebody pays that for a 40 year old slow 3C who is struggling (but who does not in SJS..), but that does not mean it is impossible.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BurgerBoss</b></div><div>I could see some contenders moving a 2nd rounder for Thornton. He'd be decent 3C in practically any team.</div></div>
Well it depends, I think if other teams want some C, there are other better options like Tierney, Zacha, R. Strome, Pageau, Namestnikov. They will be more expensive, but I can see teams rather overpaying for younger (and some of them RFA) players than some old vet who struggles in playoffs last few years. I would like to see Jumbo win cup, but I´m afraid he won´t get one.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WellIDK</b></div><div>True. But rebuilding isn't really an option right now for them. Aging core, multiple long-term contracts which ends when the player is (almost) 40. And they don't have their 1st for this years draft. Best thing Sharks can do, is trying it next year once again. And start the rebuild when the cap is quite a bit higher in a few years. Because most of their big contracts won't be traded unless you add like a 1st or something. And you can't part with your 1sts when you're rebuilding</div></div>
Yeah, I can imagine they try to get rid of Jones somehow (but im not sure how), get a new coach, then find some UFA goalie (maybe they can try something like Chicago did with Lehner, one year with big money) and if they fail next season, they can start proper rebuild - the might send some big contract to Seattle and trade other big contracts for cap dump, some picks and prospects even if they lose those trades and start full rebuild. Key is to keep the 1st round picks, so they might have to find some players from Europe (Kubalik who?) or hit UFA market hard if they want to try next year.

Their prospect pool is terrible, they seriously need to have like 2 or 3 top 10 picks. Yes, they might find good talent in late round (actually they do that quite often), but most of the time, you find middle 6 players, they need top talent and raise it on their own. It is not coincidence that teams who won multiple times in recent years like Penguins and Blackhawks were built around their own high picks which were supported by smart additions. Getting top talent in a trade or as free agent and supporting it by your own decent players is not working that good imo.

Martin Jones officially sucks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mhockey91</b></div><div>I remember in the 2016 Stanley cup finals he was so good. What happened?</div></div>
I mostly think it is a team thing.
In 2016 they only had one turnover machine in Burns, but Paul Martin, Vlasic and Braun were playing their best hockey (especially Braun with Vlasic were the best shutdown pairing in that season imo). Now Braun and Martin are gone, Vlasic is declining and Burns is still Burns. Plus they dont have top defending Dman but another turnover machine in Karlsson.
I might be wrong, but I think right before 2018-2019 season, there were some changes in goalie equipement (pads are smaller now or something like that) so it might be another factor, if you look at both Jones´s and Dell´s numbers, they dropped significantly comparing to previous seasons.
