<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Db1899</b></div><div>The isles window is already closed, Im actually rooting for Kadri to fail. I could care less. With your logic about younger players the isles should have already gotten rid of Dobson, Wahlstrom, Barzal et .
Raty falling to 52 is irrelevant - and he's also not a boom or bust prospect, you cleary don't understand what that term means. If you want to talk truth, Raty's D+1 in liiga put him on a top 6 trajectory, put up similar numbers to Anton Lundell. In his draft year he had incredible underlying numbers for an 18 YO, but wasn't getting the proper ice time/PP time. I can tell you are triggered because you keep taking shots and bringing up things that do not matter.
The trade you proposed would immediately go down as the worst trade in isles history, and this is a team that traded Zdeno Chara.</div></div>
There is a lot of silliness here so let me reclarify.
Ive stated that I think NYI has ~2 more years where they can try to compete with not much downside to not doing so.
For the absurd homerism on Raty, let me instead say go to any credible top 100 prospects list and see if he is even on there at all. That should highlight how silly the valuation of him is. The reference to him falling to 52 is very valid because if you actually followed prospects you would know he was rated as a 1st round pick for quite some time before his draft year where he fell sharply. Although that aspect of the conversation is clearly well above the one that is happening here.
You ultimately can't see past your home town bias.
You're underrating just how many truly horrid NYI deals there have been in the past lol

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>You’d be adding an ass load more to Askarov than a 3rd to even get COL to listen on Byram. You’re talking about a 21yr old dman that led the cup playoffs in 5v5 TOI and led the playoffs in +/- (regardless of how you feel about the stat). Askarov hasn’t even played a game in North America and being honest you could add 2 1st rd picks and COL still isn’t doing. Byram is a beast, Askarov is an unproven goalie. Hard hard pass.</div></div>
Askarov is one of the top 3 goalie prospects in the world. That said goalies are so random that their value is substantially less than a proven young Dman with actual top pair potential.
Considering the theme of the thread its not too big of a deal because its not too serious but some things could be shifted around to make more sense.

This seems to lack a little overall cohesion. Its half young players and half win now players.
Like I don't get going for futures like Quinn but also win now players like MS. I'd probably pick a plan and go all in with it

Are you sure about that? Not sure Logan O Connor is going to save and replace over half of NYI's roster.
Neither COL nor FLA created any substantial portion of their rosters through UFA. They both went heavily drafting for their cores and trades for the rest. The only players either obtained through UFA are smaller depth signings.
Maybe you're confusing them with VAN

Let me put it this way. NYI wont be able to replace the sheer number of players that they will need too before the younger players on the roster are out of their prime. Welcome to rebuilding 101

Doesn’t really matter if their prospect pool is thin if Raty hits. Having two high end centers is more important than having good wingers.</div></div>
The team is old and you can't replace a team fast enough for 3-4 players to matter. Barzal as much as I love him is still a top 10-15 center in the league and while centers are good thats not close to good enough and you need more than 5 players to be a relevant team.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles5513</b></div><div>Calling McCabe a d man is a stretch. And kane is 34.</div></div>
NYI's average age is like 32 so doesn't matter how old Kane is. If you want to replace McCabe with another dman thats totally fine.

The team has a few overpaid wingers and that’s really it. Bailey comes off the books by the time Soroky needs a new deal. Palmieri and Lee come off a year or two years after that.
And if you are worried about Wally or Barzy then you should remember Varly is coming off the books.</div></div>
2 years from now NYI wont be a relevant team anymore is kinda my point. In 4 years NYI is likely trading or has traded away all of those players anyways because they'll be in a rebuild

I couldn't care less who agree's with me. No one ever makes anything on here with the goal of making people agree, you'll almost never find an opinion worth mattering on a message board or an armchair GM tool. All that matters is explaining the thought process behind how I did the things I did and the people who will get it get it and whoever wont wont. I mostly just like talking about hockey so any excuse to do so is fun.
Especially as something as rough and quickly put together as this which is essentially "can NYI add Kadri another high end forward and a Dman and have it work" thing put together in like 2 minutes

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles5513</b></div><div>I don’t disagree but this is beyond excessive. It’s ridiculous.</div></div>
Sure.
1) thats good because its easy to take things out of deal rather than add
2) it was excessive to prove a point, which is that nothing NYI gave away really matters. The only thing they are REALLY losing is the opportunity cost of not using those assets for something else that could help but given how bad NYI's cap structure is it would be hard to do too much anyways. They could give up even more tbh and all that matters is they get the players that they want whoever that happens to be.
The downside is that the team doesn't have a lot of cap space and doesn't have many years left in their window. However the bright side of that is pretty much nothing matters except for getting the best possible win now players, cost be damned

Sure it is it, but there is nothing wrong with that because the overpay doesn't really matter. Also as I have said before overpays are way better on here than underpays because it means the goal still likely happens but its just better. I'd take an overpay over 99% of the deals on here where people trade a 2nd and trash prospects for other teams stars

This trade does not make the isles a better team, so it’s not a “win-now” move</div></div>
Enjoy that blue and orange kool aid fam.
I'll restate it again though: NYI couldn't give a flying **** about younger forwards because they have 2-3 years max left in their window. Its why they are willing to sign a 32 year old Kadri until he is 39, because in a few years from now the team will be hot trash so they only care about the now.
Your opinion is nothing more than delusional NYI fan and has no basis in reality because you are valuing what you wish would be true rather than what actually is. Your high risk boom/bust prospect fell all the way to 52nd overall for a reason and he isn't some special star player, NYI is just a bottom 5ish prospect system so there is literally no one else worth a damn to get excited about.

Again, if the goal is to do what I did and it ends up being cheaper, then all the better.

NYI overall is too old for prospects and picks to have any value. Every team has a prospect like Raty and saying he is untouchable shows not only large team bias but also an ignorance to the overall state of the team.
Even if you think the trade is too much, if NYI give up less then this still works but better so I see no issue there.
I don't think Kane is worth more than a 1st and propsect, but the trade ALSO dumps salary and gets back a salary retained dman. Ultimately though 'trade balance' is less relevant here as simply accomplishing win now goals for an old team with moving out assets that don't help that.
Although it likely should have had Kane double retained and found a way to keep Beau and scratched out blackwell but overall not that serious of a thing

Byram- Lundell
Lundell or Reinhart for Girard could end up making sense in different ways if FLA wanted to capitalize on their depth at F to fix their problems on defense.
As exceptional as Lundell is, he isn't the caliber of player that gets you Byram.

WPG is reportedly not willing to retain on Wheeler, which has unsurprisingly killed any interest.
If they were willing to eat 50% it would be A LOT more doable although I'm not sure COL would be the team to go for it given wing is not a need for them but other teams would be down.

Eating up cap in the 1st trade is smart.
COL doesn't need Dmen at all. So you'd have to find another team.
The Bear deal is interesting if CAR likes Shatty more but I don't see why Ana would get picks when they are getting the younger player.

Dvorak
Dvorak is an upgrade on JTC but I wonder if its enough of an upgrade to be worth a 1st. Which I will say at first glance seems a little crazy and while it looks good for this year, his contract would actually be seriously problematic for next year where they very likely would just have to trade him again.
I think its more likely they would sign Stastny and not do the trade, and hedge their bets on Newhook continuing to develop or a a better option arises.
Dvorak is a fine middle 6 player but he isn't a 2c on a contender and much much better players are being moved for free right now due to cap space so his deal is more problematic for some teams than people would likely believe

2023 Offseason - Jumpstarting the Rebuild
You need to decide if WPG is competing still or rebuilding. If they are competing then assets like Dvorak make sense but not prospects and picks. Vice versa if they are rebuilding. You need to figure out the other teams needs and make a deal that helps both sides accomplish what they want. Even if lets say Dvorak + 1st isn't too far off from what a rental usually would be you could likely find something better.
Same problem with the 2nd deal. Colorado is in win now mode. Prospects and Picks are useless to them. While Girard makes all the sense in the world for MTL at this point, they don't really have anything that makes sense for Colorado. "They need cap space" isn't a real argument imo. It can show why a player might be available but the trade still needs to make sense

I understand COL fans trying to get creative with centers, but Bennett isn't even in the same universe in terms of Value as Girard is. I think both Lundell and Reinhart could be interesting conversations but if you REALLY want Bennett just wait until the TDL when his value drops of a cliff because he isn't being carried by Hubby any longer and is back in a 3c role he is more suited for.
