It's pretty crazy to think about LAK shedding young D over the last few years:
Brock Faber to Minny due to pipeline logjam at RHD affecting their ability to get him to sign.
Sean Durzi to Arizona for a 2nd
Sean Walker to Philly as part of the Cal Petersen cap dump
Tobias Bjornfot lost to VGK on waivers
They still have issues getting playing time for Brandt Clarke, Jordan Spence, and Jacob Moverare in the NHL.

To me, it just shows that there is a unique skillset to scout/identify/draft and develop prospects into NHL players; target and recruit NHL players/coaches; and another to take a collection of talent and mold into a winning team. Jarmo did the first two fairly successfully (not without a few mistakes: ala Mike Babcock) but just wasn't able to become successful in the 3rd.
The executive or coach who builds the team isn't always the one that takes it to its success; sometimes you need a new perspective, new voice, new leadership to forge it into a contender.
But sometimes you can break it too; it's not always linear. Columbus has to be really certain of there next step.

This season especially its been pretty bad 6 games for first time offenders when the standard last year was at most 2-3 games be a bruh moment
U got guys like Wilson rag dolling people nothing, Bennett choke slamming someone nothing, like the list goes on
Parros is unfit to be DOPS heck even the Rangers had the ballz to call him out. Wish more orgs would do the same</div></div>
I agree with you in wishing that there was more consistency - but if this is them shifting towards harsher suspensions, I'll be fine with it. They gave Brendan Gallagher, another first time offender, 5 games for his elbow on Adam Pelech a couple weeks ago, and now Rielly is getting at least 6 it would seem - again, if this starts weeding the garbage plays out of the game I'm fine with it.

It's even dumber because DOPS is going to see it as almost a dare. They are going to have a ton of people in their ears about player safety when a guy hits someone in the face/head with a stick wanting a suspension, and you have a coach involved saying not only is it not a big deal, it was appropriate. Pretty sure they are going to want to disabuse that notion. He can thank his coach (and his own stupidity) if he gets a lengthy suspension.

And the SN panel, Methot, Giroux's PG comments, Keefe, Tavares and others either have stayed neutral or have liked Rielly's response</div></div>
“Sometimes that kind of stuff happens. But I didn’t like seeing him get hit in the face there”
- Giroux, last night.
“I sincerely believe Morgan Rielly should get suspended”
- Marc Methot.
“I thought it was appropriate. Our players have the right to react.”
- Keefe
So first two didn’t really defend Rielly at all…and Keefe’s quote puts him in running for dumbest quote of the year by a coach.

You notice how all the NHL and ex-NHL players are on Rielly's side? And the media's on Greig's... Funny eh? And guess what Parros is? An ex-NHLer, specifically one that ensure NHL code was kept
I side with the ex-NHLers especially considering Greig wasn't hurt and knew what he did</div></div>
Oh give it a rest with your "hockey code". You go over, grab him by the scruff man to man, give him some nice face wash, shake his bones, okay. Cool.

On the unwritten rule scale from minor-to-major, the Grieg slapshot ranks somewhere between "crossing the red line during warmups" and "not moving puck to linesman after a whistle"
Breaking his head is not the proportional response.

Greig knew what he was doing on this play. He was showing off and trying to rile up the leafs. And Rielly rightly went after him.
HOWEVER… a blatant cross check to the head is not acceptable under any circumstances. You can’t defend what Rielly did. I’d say he probably gets 5 games, and I think he should get 5 games.

I guess I’ll toss my two cents into this
What Grieg did was objectively not the classiest move and well that’s a lesson learned looking at it for him now
However. Reilly 100% intentionally crossed checked him in the face. Can’t even say his stick went up his shoulders. He didn’t touch them at all. That’s a chicken move and does not have a place in hockey, if you’re actively defending Reilly here, idk man, the excuse of “oh look at back then” is over. It’s a newer, safer era of hockey. Accept it. Saying that’s embellishing is craaaazy
Reilly in my eyes should get 2 but if he gets more it’s his fault. You can’t do that, not now. Two key games to stay alive in the east coming up in Philadelphia and St Louis. Who are good or red hot rn. Reilly also learned a lesson. And will be learning a lesson on how to control a stick
