Massive Selling Offseason
So after a few days where I was more then happy to sell off everyone I've had some time to calm down and this is my honest take on the team. Yes we had a disapointing end to the season and everyone would like them to blow it up, but that was said about the Leafs last season and they made it over that hump this season and who knows how far they can go.
We have a team that seems to fall back into bad habits in the latter half of the season and 3.5 out of 5 of the playoff games. But they did show when they play that system they can in fact win and excel at it. Don't get me wrong change is gonna come if Dubois is moving on. For Helly and Scheif it comes down to is this team entering a rebuild, if were going to continue to go for the cup they might stay.
For a team that's missed the play offs making it back in is often considered a step forward. I'm not suggesting we run it back, but if they could convince Dubois to Stay or we receive an acceptable replacement through that trade or another. Move on from Wheeler (trade/buyout) and give Morrissey the C. One of Pionk or Schmidt would need to go and get a bit more size on the backend. Playing another season under the new system that's only a year old. I think they do better next go around, at the minimum less likely to fall into old habits as the new system becomes habit.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mvp13</b></div><div>You said the Panthers, then mentioned Florida's low taxes, but nice try...
I'm sure all 31 other teams are also interested in Connor McDavid, but unfortunately there is a thing called a salary cap, and looming RFA status, where PLD is in near complete control of where he would like to play long term. The fact that WPG and PLD didn't secure a long term deal, and instead he only signed his qualifying offer last offseason, certainly dictates that there are issues between the two. I'm not going by tabloids or Twitter, I'm going by that fact.</div></div>
Literally ever team in the league has less income tax ramifications then Montreal. Florida, Tamps, Seattle, Vegas, Dallas and Nashville all have 0% state taxes.
"a team like the panthers" is what I said scroll up my friend.

Well I'll save the thread, if I'm wrong and Dubois nets so little in a trade to Montreal that is, if he doesn't end somewhere else and all he gets is 8 million * 8. As a Jets Fan I'd be comfortable going as high as 9.5-10.5 as he's a Unicorn in the way he's big, physical, gets under the other teams skin alla Marchand or Tkachuk and he also plays center. But maybe I'm wrong and if so I'll be sure to post an appology and eat some crow on this thread 😂😂😂.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mvp13</b></div><div>How am I saying that PLD is worth next to nothing? It's a 1st round pick for an unsigned player, a player who (obviously everyone is assuming) doesn't want to sign in WPG. MTL can easily just wait until next year if the price continues to be too insane. It also literally says "add whatever prospect to get it done"... I'm not personally a big prospect guy and don't have a huge gauge on who is good, and who isn't. I'm not saying the prospect is optional at all, it should be added. I just don't know who is good enough to make the deal happen, and who WPG would want.
Two first round picks and a prospect for an unsigned player is never going to happen. MTL would be really stupid to do that. I'd wait one more year if that was the true cost.
PS: you try to insult my hockey IQ, then say that the Panthers will offer him more money??? With what cap space? Get a clue.</div></div>
I said a team like the panthers, I didn't say only the panthers would do that. Just like his agent saying he might want to play in Montreal one day doesn't mean that's the only place he's willing to play. If your a hockey fan and not just a habs fan, take off your habs blinders and look around the rest of the league. There are 30 other teams that would like to have Dubois if Winnipeg is out of the running.

Roster shake up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ducky10</b></div><div>I respect your optimism my friend, i have had that mind set since they returned but it has been seriously eroded. In my opinion, the first 5-6 years when they were mediocre to bad was better than what we have seen these past 3-4 years. Did you see the petulant entitlement from 'the core' group during the media availability? They revealed the team still viewed Wheeler as the captain! Does that not tell you everything you need to know? He clearly should have been gone after last season. its apparent the culture starts and stops with him. If I am Bowness, I walk unless there are big changes. And maybe that's not the worst thing but... not even Lowry or Morrisey would accept any level accountability for the teams play. I'm sure I will cool down by next September but i'm annoyed.
All the best, have a great summer. Thanks for the banter!</div></div>
Yes I was cleaning up the shop yesterday and I listened to everyone's. Other then Wheeler and lowry to the a point the rest's reactions to Bone's comments weren't near as bad as the media is making it out to be. Morrissey, Dubois and Scheif didn't even have an issue with him speaking his mind. The rest just said they'd rather he tell them that behind closed doors then call them out in front of the world which any of would feel. As for Lowry he's all ways one of the few who give it his all every night if he was offended he earned the right to be.
I also remember the first six years and having 0 excitment at the end of the season like last year vs the other five I'll take that over tanking any day. That's why we watch, last night the leafs got past the first round for the first time in 19 years. Everyone wanted them to blow it up last year. It's such an odd stance that after missing a year in the playoffs then getting back into them everyone wants the jets to sell off everything. If it was our first time in years we'd take that as a step forward. It's not like they haven't shown they can play and win with the new system. It's just a matter of getting rid of old habits and doing it consistantly.

This is what I love about Hockey fans. On one hand you have Dubois a perennial 60-65 point player up to this point that every habs fan thinks is worth next to nothing. Yet when Suzuki comes up he's oh so much better and worth oh so much more as a smaller perennial 60-65 point player.
In any event if it's just picks and prospects coming back. This years 5th overall, Florida's 17th overall and Justin Barron.
I honestly don't see Dubois endeding up in Montreal though, if the fan base is a reflection of how much the organizantion would value him. He's yet to say he doesn't want to play in winnipeg, also he never said he'd only play in Montreal should listen to his end of season comments "There's lots of fake stuff thrown out there in the news".
If he does want to be moved if the habs go about nickle and diming Chevy for the price and Dubois for the contract, a team like the Panthers will swoop in and offer him more money and less taxes.

Dubois if he isn't willing to sign a deal with term

Roster shake up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ducky10</b></div><div>Regardless of the cap increase (I think your number is high) he does not deserve nearly 12% of this or any teams cap space. He is a 60 point Center worth somewhere between 7 and 8.5mil max! Winnipeg would likely need to pay him 10 plus to stay but he ain't worth it. So i hope they don't do it. I would trade him to Philly so he has to play under Torts for one more season then he can slink off to Quebec.
Scheifele HAS TO GO!! I would seriously explore the market for KC too! Slick player but he's a liability.
This was the year for "see how it goes", it failed miserably after failing miserably last year and the year before and the year before. There is something rotten with this group. I would much rather endure a rebuild with a bunch of young kids that at least show up and work hard than watch this team again. This group has had enough chances and they have shown what they are made of.
I would keep; Ehlers, Lowry, Barron, Appleton, Perfetti, Nino, Morrisey, Dillon, Samberg and Helle. I re sign Namestnikov and the rest can go fly a kite. Maybe I sign 2 or 3 of the 4th liners AJF and Gus are RFA's.
I think Chisolm and Gawanke deserve a shot as does Ville. I'm excited about Lambert and McGroarty and I want to be excited about Lucius (he just cant stay healthy).
I actually like Pionk more than most but only in a 3/4 role with stud top line RD like Severson.
I also think Chevy has had his chance. He has done an admirable job in some areas but has failed to address this cancerous culture that has eminated from this group for so long. This is on him and Chipman.</div></div>
Well to each there own. I remember the one playoff appearance in 6 years. Compared to missing the playoffs once in six years. It sounds good in theory but not much fun for the next 5-6 years.

I would much prefer the Jets sign UFA Damon Severson for 6.5 than make this trade for Parayko.
No offense but... If they run back this much of the roster from the season that just ended there will be riots in this city.</div></div>
I'm accounting for the cap jumping up to around 90-92 million year after next. 10.5 is about 9-9.5M today if you go cap percentage wise. I'd like to sign severson that would be option A but we don't have the best luck attracting free agents.
I'm an ideal world we move pionk and Schmidt and keep Stanley and bring in a bigger RHD. Teams will be tight cap wise so moving Schmidt will be tough.
We didn't riot last year. But buying out Wheeler to make a point. Give Morrissey the C, beef up our defense size wise. See how it go's next year.
I'd rather not go complete rebuild so we can only move so many. Lucious, mcgrotery and possibly Lambert are still 2-3 years away.

More Rumors Off Season Trade
It's interesting because PLD's agent has hinted his client would like to play for the habs one day. That doesn't mean that is the only place he would like to go, if this was the most Montreal would offer the jets would either.
A: let PLD accept his qualifying offer of 6M and go all in next season.
B: go through arbitration and still get him at less then market value and do the same
Or the most likely C trade him to a team that thinks they can win the cup next season and will offer the jets more.
Point is if Montreal really wants the player they'll pay up this summer and sign him rather then have to bid against 30 other teams. A handful of which could offer the same money with less taxes and others that are closer to winning a cup.

Yet Barzal who is only two years younger and other then 2017-2018 where he was just over a point per game has been a 65-70 point player who win's less then 45% of his draws is worth over 9? Horvat is worth 8.5 because he's a two way center who wins more then half his draws not a center who'd be better on the wing.

Funny how everyone says its such a bad contract. Cap percentage wise it's les then what Draisaitl signed for and everyone thought that was a horrible deal for the oilers. Horvat will be tied with four others for 39th highest in the league.
Pasternak, Dubois, Meier, Larkin, Debrincat and possibly Caufield will pass them dropping it to 44-45th. Don't see what all the fuss is about I'd take him on my team for 8.5.

Not at all but he only has three years left, rather not lock him for 8 years when he's 29 Zacha is a bigger forward plays center and wing, probably get it done long term around 4-4.5. It's the 2nd overall pick that makes me make this deal. Wright may go 2nd overall insurance if we lose a center. Or it could be Juraj Slafkovsky who many predict could end up being the best player in the draft. Big power forward scoring winger. As much as I like Ehlers I'd do this deal

Actually Seattle can't just select copp because he's not under contract for next year, he has to agree to a contract with them. They can only select Goalies that are rfa at season end. But most likely the jets protect copp and expose Appleton and Harkins. Given the choice between those two, demelo, niku and Berdin they select Appleton most likely.
